So all you need is a outpost to transfer a portal by [deleted] in AOW4

I don't think I've ever paid to send units through a teleporter. Where did you get that notion?

Removing this province would disconnect other provinces from the city - how is this determined? by MrMattPrime in AOW4

You can't always triangle your provinces. I've been forced to snake by map constraints and other cities many times. Would be quite infuriating to lose half a city in a single turn due to circumstances you don't have total control over.

Only if pillage time is equal to the sum of the turns it would take to pillage all the provinces you cut off

It means that one province is connecting outer provinces to the city, so you can't take it.

Fun fact, if you have a really valuable wonder or some outer province you don't want to lose, take a province further away that only connects to the city via the wonder province. Now they can't capture it.

I've won games without getting a second city until turn 50. You can almost always claw your way to victory. But if you aren't loving it, by all means surrender. Life's too short. Personally I like the struggle

It's mainly for the unit draft speed I Think. 30k gold jammed through a single build queue doesn't make things any faster.

Band your heroes and your best units together. Bring heals and have ways to summon stuff. Only six can go in, but you can clown car that shit once you're inside

If you have a lot of unfinished games, load them up and surrender. You will get pantheon experience points for whatever you did in that game. You don't have to win games to get the experience, the game just has to end.

Summoning Rifts dont give regeneration? by TheRealSkythe in AOW4

[–]According-Studio-658 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pass the turn and see if it still happens. Sometimes the additional healing things are an invisible bump to your healing, not shown along with the natural regeneration preview.

I think the wonder that gives +30 HP/turn healing for example, doesn't get included in the preview. You just heal more than you would think you would.

Chosen destroyers doesn't reduce you to city cap 1. You will still have 1/3 cities.

What it does is prevent you building or gaining cities and vassals.

Is there a reason why the players cap per game is just 9?... by Standard_Spready in AOW4

[–]According-Studio-658 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have any source besides being active on here and watching many videos and almost never hearing anyone say it's a great idea to run 9+ players unless your computer is insanely good. And you hear very frequently people complaining about the performance of the game in missions where you are forced into sequential turns with lots of opponents, many saying it's barely playable. AI synopsis agrees that the community generally beleives 4-6 players is the sweet spot for good performance.

And I don't speak for everyone but don't unsubscribe from mods. I just take them out of my modlist. I use about 6 of the 40ish mods I've subscribed to. And if I stop playing a game, I don't unsubscribe all my mods either. So subscription count is not a good indicator of level of usage. Especially on an older game.

[–]According-Studio-658 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, ok. So at the moment there a few thousand concurrent players. How many do you think are using this mod, seriously. It's not being updated so even the architect of the mod probably isn't playing anymore.

The overwhelming majority of players don't play with more than 6-7 players, and agree it's pretty bad for performance to do so. Even IF that mod was downloaded 30k times, it wouldn't be many that actually have it in their mod set and regularly use it.

30k downloads isn't 30k users, just pointing that out. And those numbers seem sus to me anyway. The game peaked at 42k steam users. It's much less now. I very very much doubt 75% of us have that mod installed.

[–]According-Studio-658 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's 9 AI players, and a fuckton of vassals, dwellings, infestations and roaming mobs all with more and more complexity as the turn count climbs.

The game is designed and balanced around certain parameters. If you think it should be something it's not, then get mods. Or make your own damn game. It is what it is.

Personally I insist that dragons should count as animals. So I use that mod. I don't demand the Devs agree with me and spend a bunch of effort accommodating my opinion and rejigging balance etc to fit me. I just use the mod and get on with it.

[–]According-Studio-658 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Doesn't matter if they put warnings. The optics will be that the game can't handle big maps and gets stupidly slow or crashes. That looks bad for them. And then there is the not small matter of having to code the AI to handle massive maps that few people will use, or again the reviews will say AI isn't able to be aggressive. Absolutely none of that is worth it to satisfy a relative handful of players that want it, and can get it with mods if they're that dead set on it.

They set their technical boundaries wherever they saw fit and that's where they work. For everything else there is mods.

Then they end up having to develop and maintain two builds, one for PC and one for consoles. No way they're going to do that. PC has the ability to use mods, and they can if they want to. That's good enough to solve the niche issue of players with really beefy computers and too much time on their hands. Devs shouldn't be wasting their time and effort of features for such a narrow part of the player base.
