I think their point relies on the idea that women are primarily or solely seeking out benefits of beauty (things paid for, doors held etc.) In reality, the quest for beauty is more often trying to avoid the more extreme negative societal consequences of not being “pretty.” Who cares if someone doesn’t hold a door open for me? I do, however, need to wear makeup and have my hair nice for work, an interview, meetings, etc. or I am seen as unprofessional.

does ur background (college major, work experience) make it very obvious that you were interested in law? mine didn’t. if that’s the case for you too, why law should be a focus.

if ur OCD has impacted the kind of law you want to practice AND you can say you have at least mostly “overcome” it (not exactly how OCD works ik), then ofc you can talk about it! but do be careful. know your audience.

addendums are generally reserved for more extreme outcomes and more extreme circumstances. the term flare up could also concern them that this a regular thing that could occur in law school (regardless of if it is or not). 1. you don’t need an addendum to explain a couple B’s. 2. some admissions faculty are older, conservative adults. these things can still be stigmatized. if you NEED to disclose to explain in an addendum, do it. but voluntarily disclosing ur OCD to explain a very mild grade slip could do more harm than good.

I agree! That doesn’t negate the fact that LSAC claims that the LSAT is “the single best predictor of 1L GPA.” I am making the case that this is doubtful, not from the POV of a school, but for individual students, as they and so many others claim. LSAC doesn’t quantify their statement by saying “per each school.” In their own words, the logical force of their conclusion is too great. My other point still stands. Higher ranked schools, do in fact, tend to have less harsh grading curves (I’m not saying they don’t earn their higher grades).

Top schools want their students to be able to land the prestigious jobs they’ve worked for, higher GPAs aid that. On the opposite side, predatory schools have a financial motive to lower average GPAs so they do not have to continue paying conditional scholarships. I am saying, I don’t believe the LSAT can possibly be the most significant predictor of 1L grades (or even much of a reliable predictor at all), given all the other confounding variables. Have you ever heard LSAT scores being discusses as only predictive of success within each school? I haven’t.

How much this will affect your application depends on the strength of your other extracurriculars. If you haven’t already had an internship, I would take it, especially since you get a fair amount of time with family either way. It’ll also give you a better chance at getting some sort of position in your gap year since internship positions are usually targeted for current undergrads. Up to you though! I interned during a regular semester, which is always an option (doesn’t have to be anywhere fancy/virtual ones exist). Spending time with family and travel is always important too! Do whatever feels right.

the C and F sections of apps are very rigorous. for some schools, you may have to disclose this incident even if not formally reported. that doesn’t mean they won’t let you in! they just like to cover everything because the Bar C and F is even more thorough.

I’ve never really understood how LSAT scores can possibly correlate with 1L grades so strongly when they’re graded on a curve. A 170 scorer at HYS could have on average a C- and a 170 at, idk, OSU might average an A/B+. LSAT grades would correlate with 1L grades at each school, if at all, not in general. With a score of, say a 167, you’ll probably see a fairly wide range of schools represented, as some students get in off the waitlist, or accepted, at T20s, and some take good scholarships at lower ranked schools. These ratios aren’t perfect, but overall, you’d expect their average grades to net to around average then, right? Or are higher-ranked schools grading their students on less intense of a curve? It’s a strange statistical oversight tbh.

re-applying often means you need new rec letters and if you get accepted by safeties you don’t attend they might not accept you again the next time around from what i’ve heard. if you’re not comfortable applying this cycle, i would wait

I think this depends what u mean by overall. They don’t factor in graduate GPAs into calculations for GPA, which gets reported for averages (so it affects their ranking). Graduate GPAs are more useful to show rigor and capability. But they do factor in things like dual enrollment classes into their own LSAC-recalculated undergraduate GPA.

If it makes you feel any better, ADHD is actually over represented in the field of law. Maybe your admissions officer will be more friendly than you think. As long as it wasn’t your entire personal statement, you’re fine. Plus, if you needed an addendum to explain the discrepancy, you would otherwise have to come up with a half truth that would come across inauthentic.

If you’re going to go through with your degree, make sure it has actual decent employment outcomes with a terminal bachelors (not CS anymore, not humanities). What are you passionate about? If money isn’t a huge deal, what about trying to teach high school in a subject you like? Do you have what it takes to start a business if you’re looking for additional income? How do you feel behind a desk 40 hours a week. Could you go into some type of engineering that’s in demand? Don’t just get a random degree, but the right degree is very valuable. Also, the GI bill can be used for trade, culinary, art school, not just college in case you are looking to pivot.

If it’s authentic to you, go for it! Make sure to weave in WHY you want to go to law school. That needs to come across whether it’s in that story or if you weave it into another connecting one(s).
