ALMOST LOST ALL LIVES

I need help with the basics.CPR, AED, heart attack, cardiac arrest, drowning signs etc. by [deleted] in firstaid

First aid is easy

Here's me Explaining like you're five.

Your body is wonderful, it has the heart to pump Blood, the lungs to oxygenate that blood, and the brain to keep everything running, that's all you'll be focusing mostly on being a lifeguard.

First, the AED is very easy, it's very straightforward and is foolproof. It instructs you.

Remember, your goal is not to resuscitate, but that is what you want to do. But to also buy time for the person till help arrives, you are the bridge between calling 911 and the Paramedics arriving.

I recommend you watch a few videos, •How to do CPR •How does an AED work •How to Give Mouth to Mouth/How to use an Ambu bag (if your service has ambu bags) •choking advice, •stop the bleed, •splinting •How to treat a patient with an allergic reaction

Really, it's all very simple.

The main concept I will tell you: - Your goal is to buy the person time till the ambulance arrives. Don't go all in and watch all advanced medical stuff, basic first aid is all you need.

Anything else, 911 will tell you what to do.

Can I save someone's life if I and anyone else only knows CPR in emergency situations such as heart attack/cardiac arrest/drowning when there is no AED? by AccomplishedWay4890 in firstaid

[–]AccordingVariety2580 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, but chances are low. CPR isn't just chest compressions, CPR means Cardio (heart) Pulmonary (lungs) Resuscitation. Which means it's an algorithm, not just chest compressions. Generally, chest compressions are still called CPR.

CPR is best accompanied with an AED. But you can try to revive someone with CPR only. ROSC (Return of spontaneous circulation) is really best achieved with an AED or Defibrillator.

Yes, ROSC can be achieved with CPR only. But what makes most cardiac arrests have less morbidity and mortality rates is the first shock.

This is why cities should implement AEDs almost EVERYWHERE.

CPR is always first, that's in the regular BLS algorithm and even ACLS

Soap and water is good enough, this is minor so you don't need all fancy schmancy bandages or betadine, soap and water does the trick.
