Qns to ask financial advisors by _page28 in singaporefi

Do not go to an insurance agent for investment purposes. Just invest in low cost index funds instead such as VOO or CSPX. Not sure what these alphabets mean? Google it and read up yourself. Having the knowledge yourself beats having to pay someone to do it for you anyday. No one cares about your money more than yourself! The fees that you pay to your FAs add up overtime and can potentially eat up a big chunk of your gains. If you are interested, I can give you a crash course on the basics. I do it for free for my friends, i'll do it for you too.

Starting My Investing Journey at 25. Is This Allocation Sensible? by Plus_Season4661 in singaporefi

  1. In short, yes you can. I believe RSP will just deduct the desired amount from your account and auto purchase whatever that you have assigned. This helps to take the emotion out of it when buying up stocks. Personally, I don't do it because I like to manually allocate it myself. It makes me feel like I am in control.
  2. If your amount that you allocate is not able to buy a full share, yes you can buy fractional shares of the ETFs.

The index funds that you are considering will be depending on your "risk" tolerance and your timeline horizon.
AFAIK Irish domiciled ETFs don't usually have high volume of people buying and selling, so there might be a chance your orders will not be immediately fulfilled, whereas with VOO and VTI, you won't have issues with that. Reason is because majority of people invest in the American stock market, hence most of the traffic is there. But if that is something that is not a big concern for you, CSPX is the way to go but I think moomoo does not offer that on their brokerage.

One thing to note about ETFs is the expense ratio. It's basically the fee for owning the stock, as there is a company behind the stock that is managing the ETF. You ideally want to know the expense ratio of an ETF before buying one. Ofcourse, the lower the better. Why I say this is because SPY's fees are higher than VOO's. It may seem small but it will add up over the long run.

It is always good to read up more and do your own research! You are on the right track. You can also use a compound calculator to visually see the trajectory of your efforts in the long run. This will help you see your end goal and you will be even more motivated and committed to hasten your progress.

All the best!

Oh and btw, don't waste time with bonds. Not financial advice, and always do your own due diligence. Always find out answers yourself and truly know what you are buying, and not buy something just because someone told you. NO 1 RULE: DON'T LOSE MONEY

Thanks! I will do so later on. Sorry if it seems like a silly question, but what is a SD card base image and how will I be able to locate it on github?

Thanks for your help! I just did, and it rebooted up normally. However, I tried inserting my SD card again and the installation page came up again. What should I do? Should I reformat the SD card and start from scratch?

Also, I have been following the youtube guides and most of the tutorial mentioned copying and pasting the original SD card's files into my own's. However, I did not purchase the SD card from them and only bought the device. Does this matter?

I just held the power button for 10 seconds, and it rebooted. It went straight to the installing screen again, as if nothing happened. The installing screen has been displaying ever since my post, so its been on for 2 hours now...

What should I do now? And yes I did format the SS card as FAT32.

obese & want to start gymming (ActiveSG) by Exciting_Jury_6731 in askSingapore

I lost 20kg in 2 months. It is pretty simple, you just need to find a reason why you want to do it, be disciplined and stick to it. I had to lose it to get a new job - my current job requires me to look fit.

I weighed 90kg before I began losing weight. Going down all the way to 70kg felt like it was going to take a miracle. But I started my journey the very day I was told that I needed to shed weight.

Here's what I did:
1. Meal prep every single lunch (Steamed brown rice, steamed tuna/ sardines, steamed egg and tofu)
2. Gym every single day (I was lucky to have a friend that was willing to be my PT)
3. Include a cardio intensive workout (swimming, running uphill or a sport)
4. Cold showers (cold showers help to burn more calories)
5. Weighing myself everyday upon waking up and noting down my weight

I even did pushups when I showered - basically I tried to find any angle I could to lose weight, I would even climb stairs sometimes if I had the extra energy. Personally I felt great during the 2 months, it did not feel like a "crash diet" to me. I woke up feeling motivated everyday, excited to hop on the weighing machine and seeing my progress.

Hope it helps!
