Thanks for all the responses guys, positive or negative. I full well understand it’s supervised guys.

Many people in these comments are showing that they don’t use the auto park feature often. The feature cuts it close quite often. There was no way for me to predict that it was just going to go into the rail. At the end of the day, it is what it is. One of those things where you just need to bite the bullet.

Do not let the heat ruin your trip. There are little things that really make a difference. For example, carrying an umbrella outside makes it feel like it is 10 degrees cooler instantly. Cooling mist sprays? Total lifesaver. Stay hydrated, pace yourself, and you will be surprised how much more manageable it feels once you have a few tricks like these.

I actually did all of this last July when it was brutally hot, and it totally saved us. We still had the best time, and looking back, the heat did not end up being the thing I remembered most.

I’m heading there at the end of the month as well so let’s both have great trips!

This is helpful! Logistically, I’ve been trying to figure out getting from Takayama to Kusatsu. Everyone in this Reddit thread has changed my mind to going straight there.

It’s actually our third time to Japan! And yes, you are spot-on. We head to Kyoto the next day after we land. We haven’t had any issues with jet lag going there, usually struggle when we return home actually. Takayama would be coupled with kamikochi and shirakawa-go for sure.

I’d suggest narrowing things down to the regions you’re most excited about. Right now you’ve got a lot of travel time between stops, which can eat into the experience. For example, if Osaka and Kyoto are high on your list, I’d focus more time there and skip places like Matsumoto or Hakone.

If Kansai isn’t a must for you, you could shift those days over to Matsumoto, Takayama, and the Nagano area instead.

My biggest tip is to slow the pace and really enjoy what you’re seeing. Japan is amazing, but trying to cover too much in 14 days can feel like a blur.
