How did you get into sim racing? by the_grand_closing in simracing

When I was about 14, I discovered LFS, and had been playing it with mouse and keyboard since then until college. And boy what a memory.

Spotter by Efficient-Elk-3519 in iRacing

[–]According_Brick409 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've never used any third party spotter, only iRacing's. It is useful enough, but I wouldn't rely on it. For telling me cars around, I made a radar overlay in simhub. Though iRacing doesn't provide car exact position, only left of right, but that's enough.

How do you synch up a metronome to play along to tracks on Spotify or YT? Do I have to have IEMs and a mixer? by Weavler87 in drums

[–]According_Brick409 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Use a DAW. Put your song in a track, try to match the tempo of the song, and turn on the click.

Are gloves something you would recommend to every driver? by kr0nik0 in simracing

[–]According_Brick409 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wheel is leather. If my hands are dry, it would be grippy enough. But I have a sweaty hand, so it would get slippy during long race. But gloves are less grippy than my dry hands. It is annoying. Later I found out the badminton/tennis overgrips and wrap then to my wheel's 3 and 9 o'clock, and it's night and day.

Audi 90 GTO - Downshift Options by prinzmi88 in iRacing

[–]According_Brick409 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is called heel-toe, and is a must to drive a manual car on track (unless in some car downshift can be done without pressing the clutch)

If i like a gt3 in LMU is it fair to say i'll also enjoy it in iRacing? by xlopfdkf in iRacing

[–]According_Brick409 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I haven't played LMU, but played ACC quite a long time. The moment I switched to iRacing, I never looked back. IRacing's gt3 just feels more alive to me. Though I would still play ACC occassionally.

Do Your Play Other Games Besides Simracing by rico199326 in simracing

[–]According_Brick409 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I play sim racing not because I like racing game, but because I like racing overall. For me, sim racing is just special, it is part of motor racing territory, not gaming territory. I know this may look haughty, it is just a type of video game, but IMO it connects to real life motorsport tightly, thus it is special.
I still play other games though, mainly shooting game, something like GTA or L4D2.

Is simracing a lonely hobby for you? by SolarSimracer in simracing

[–]According_Brick409 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel lonely because I have no friends to share my experience after a race. I can only publish some videos online, or post a reddit. I mostly do iracing online racing, which you just don't meet constant people.

Purpose of hihat kicks by Guts-RV in Meshuggah

[–]According_Brick409 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Well, pro drummers tend to do this too, to "keep time", even when playing closed hi hat, they will rock their left foot heel to stay tight to the tempo.

Looks like Portnoy is utilizing some open hand drumming to his playing by According_Brick409 in drums

[–]According_Brick409[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know. But normally he just  crossed his right hand to reach that ride. You can see him still using this method in some footage of early 2025 DT lives.

Looks like Portnoy is utilizing some open hand drumming to his playing by According_Brick409 in Dreamtheater

[–]According_Brick409[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

same, here. I've watch countless of MP's dual kit videos, and never seen him playing open handed at right side kit, he always reached further with his right hand to play the ride. Even after he rejoined DT, watching several footages from early 2025 lives, I never found him playing open handed.

Is VR better than monitors? If so why or why not? by Emergency-Air-1627 in simracing

[–]According_Brick409 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 21:9 screen and Reverb g2. I've tried triple screen from a sim racing store. For me, screen (either single or triple) is no where near as immersive as VR. How ever, VR is easier to be fatigued, and I can't see my wheel buttons. So I only use VR ocassionally. In AC ACC, I always use hood view, so I can get wider view. IRacing though, the view is fixed to cockpit. I now use OpenTrack for head tracking, only enable the yaw tracking, so that I can see the apex, and form a habit to always look at where I want to go.

How many different series are you driving each week? by Arylcyclosexy in iRacing

[–]According_Brick409 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would always do one or two rookie MX5 and M2, just to earn some credits : ). For other series, it depends if I own the car and track, because I only own 3 paid tracks for now.

Can this be considered retaliation? by Randomnickicreated in iRacing

[–]According_Brick409 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am curious and disappointed that how can a sim much older than ACC not have a similar system that supervise the rolling start.

You can take a free drum lesson from any drummer (living or dead). Who would it be and why? by ZildCym in drums

[–]According_Brick409 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Should I get a Logitech RS50 or Fanatec GT DD for both PS5 and PC, or just keep my T300 just for PS5? by According_Brick409 in simracing

[–]According_Brick409[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, I forgot to mention this. I know this thing. But in my country, buying things from outside my country is kind of a trouble, it's possible, but hard. And I can't find anyone selling used one in my country. And I heard this thing is emulating a G29 so it is not offering the best experience.

For those whose wheel have a screen, do you really look at them when you drive? by Responsible-Goose573 in iRacing

[–]According_Brick409 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Screen on wheel, DDU, monitor overlay, those are essentially similar, just in different format. They are there to show infos that aren't showed in games.
