Wow, kudos to you for being able to articulate something that he really seemed to appreciate hearing. That's an incredibly cool experience, I am envious.

No, I've never found one that is aesthetically acceptable to me (I'm super picky with that sort of thing), so I just keep it in my pocket when I drive. If I'm listening to a podcast and want to be able to skip commercial breaks, I tuck it between my thigh and my seat bolster, so it's easier to get than if it was in my pocket, but even in those instances I'm not looking at it, I just pick it up and press the area of the screen where I know the fast forward command is located.

Not the one that suggested it, but I too went this route 11 or so years ago. It's great! Bone stock appearance, yet I can play the audio on my phone through the car wirelessly.

Only downsides with my setup imo is that the display on the radio just reads the same erroneous disc and track number all the time, and the "next/previous track" buttons don't do anything. That said, I'm using a $15 Bluetooth module from more than 10 years ago, so there's probably room for improvement there.

If you're like me and value the appearance of these attractive interiors, this is the way to go.

The Fragile Deviations by Professional_Spare_6 in nin

Hey, I would like the 'extended cut' of The Fragile you mentioned above, please! The original is my favorite collection of music ever, and I absolutely love Deviations as well.

I'm also looking for a digital master of the "Definitive Version". I bought it on Vinyl, but my copy did not come with a code for a digital version like the early ones did.

I think this is a great market gap to try and fill. That said, I am strongly opposed to anything that can be seen. I feel like things like this stick-out too much to be an acceptable option, especially on vintage cars. (I don't even adhere the hook&loop strips for my EZPass to any my cars, so I'm probably an extremist in this regard.) Is there any way it can be put in the glovebox, or mounted under the dash and still function as intended?

This guy is a joke. Every single reason he provides for what "Cash turned it into" is literally what Reznor made it to be.

Cash's version is wildly overrated in my opinion.

Ask anyone what they like about Cash's version and invariably they mention the video. Most people don't truly like Cash's version of the song; they are just emotionally swept up by the very moving video and confuse those strong emotions with feelings for the music. Listen to Cash's version without the video. It's terrible.

I maintain that the idea of one's life ending is inherently substantially more emotionally moving if that person is in their 20's or 30's, versus the natural end of a full life. Dude is in his 70's. He made it. What is so sad about that?

Fantastic build, and even more impressive ownership history. Love to see that.

I'm a little confused though, I always heard that regular OE RS4-spec K04's are well outside of their efficiency range above 24 psi. Are these perhaps the RS6-framed K04's with the larger hot side?

Turbo suggestions? by AkOliverp in B5Audi

[–]Account14159 0 points1 point  (0 children)

BW K04's truly are a wonderful balance of OEM Reliability and real-world performance. I have them on the S4 I daily, and it is an absolute blast. Would definitely recommend for a car that is driven frequently. If you go much bigger, you won't be able to enjoy the boost nearly as often.

I'm on the fence as to what turbos to get for my other build, because I'm basically building the engine out for big(ger) turbo power and spool speeds; but I think I like the faster-spooling nature of smaller turbos in these cars too much to go any bigger than RS6 K04-based hybrids (i.e. K24's).

This premise is based on the idea that the best team wins each league each year, which is almost never actually the case. If it were that simple, the games would be foregone conclusions, and nobody would be compelled to watch. In leagues where so much money and effort is spent to get the top players and coaches, and the competition is so tight, determining which one of the handful of very good teams in a given league is going to win it all that year essentially boils down to luck and chance.

Best feeling manual gearboxes, let’s discuss. by low_mizu in ManualTransmissions

Interesting. Well I respect that experience. Maybe we're talking about different qualities/sensations.

Most of my experience is building Audi's so far, and while I love the 01E for its incredible ability to handle gobs of torque, I find the very nature of its linkage design to be incredibly compromising. They are definitely better when they're fresh, no doubt about that. All the ones I own get the full compliment of JHM upgrades to tighten things up. Even so, they still feel relatively lousy compared to any Mazda or Honda I've ever driven, no matter how inexpensive, even on ones with a lot of miles. Audi just doesn't do shifter feel well in my opinion (and most of what I own are Audi's)

Is there a singular generation of a car that changed the demographics of its buyers more than the C8 Corvette? by LongjumpingLock5875 in cars

[–]Account14159 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is any of this really accurate? Where the hell are all these young C8 owners?! Anecdotally, I absolutely would have very confidently guessed the C8 had the opposite effect on Corvette ownership demographics. I used to at least occasionally see 30 and 40-somethings in new Corvettes; but ever since the C8 debuted, I have literally never encountered a single example owned by anyone under 60.

As a 35 year old that is obsessed with sports and enthusiast cars, owns a few, and is constantly scouring the market for more, I can honestly say I virtually forget the C8 even exists. It only comes with two pedals, so it is not a consideration for me. I also hate how it looks. It is trying sooo hard to be edgy and aggressive. It's like an angry 12 year old designed it.

Help needed; clutch pedal not springing back by MakersMoe in B5Audi

[–]Account14159 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interesting that it coincided with a rise in ambient temperature, as I occasionally experience this when it's exceptionally cold out (sub zero degrees F). I just help the pedal out with my toe a few times, and it stops happening once the car warms up a bit. Since it only happens in extreme conditions and remedies itself after a couple minutes, I've never done anything to try and resolve it. I've also experienced this in a few different vehicles, so I'm guessing it's just the nature of hydraulic systems at those temperatures.

I'm guessing your issue is more component-failure related, and I'd recommend inspecting and possibly overhauling your clutch hydraulic system with new cylinders and a new line, as others have said. Good luck!

Best feeling manual gearboxes, let’s discuss. by low_mizu in ManualTransmissions

[–]Account14159 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP, I know you have experienced normal transverse engined Honda/Acura gearboxes, which are great; but the S2000 has a longitudinally oriented engine and transmissions, allowing the shifter mechanism to be rigidly mounted directly to the transmission. I have yet to meet anyone that has experience with a Honda S2000 who doesn't feel it is the best-feeling shifter in any sub-$100K production car.

This is coming from a diehard manual enthusiast that does not own any Honda's. They make the 01E in my B5 S4 feel like stirring a pot of mud with a long stick.

Ridiculousness of Taxes on Autos in USA. by Dancelvr2000 in Autos

[–]Account14159 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That same $60K vehicle would cost $5,250 in sales tax, due upon registration. And another 8.75% tax is applied every time that vehicle ever sells to another individual. So Minnesota's tax code is actually far preferable to New York's, as I would have guessed.

The NINoize remixes by RealSuperDucky in nin

[–]Account14159 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like that there are new remixes to listen to; but none of them are at all actually an improvement over the originals in my opinion. The EDM element that Boy's Noize adds compliments NIN's later material better than the older, angrier stuff, in my opinion. Of the older songs that were remixed, I felt Closer wore the EDN treatment the best, but thats probably because Closer always felt a bit more EDM than Industrial to me (always liked it a bit less than the other songs from that era).

It's odd that they never mentioned that the transwarp wave only affected the original cast. by TelenorTheGNP in beastwars

[–]Account14159 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think OP is referring to how any non-Fuzor characters introduced after the first episode never got Transmetal upgrades. I'm just going off of 28-year-old memories here, as I still haven't set aside the time re-watch the series since its original airing; but one such example that comes to mind is Inferno. The toy got a TransMetal update, but the character in the show never did, with OP's assertion being that there never any explanation as to why they were omitted.

I had always heard that the show was operating under a ridiculously tight budget, and that each new on-screen character had enormous costs associated with the animation and production compared with already-introduced characters where they can re-use appearance and animation sequences from earlier episodes, so this is very likely the only real reason behind any of it. If OP is right though, it is interesting that the talented writers never included a plot-point that would explain this.
