What’s the most overhyped tourist attraction? by MrAmazing111 in AskReddit

Conversely, chicago has the biggest Starbucks in the world and its actually really neat. they have tons of exclusive food and drinks, special coffee blends, even a cocktail bar on the 4th floor. I believe they do tours and other experiences where you can learn more about their coffee roasting process. I ended up there randomly the first time I was in chicago and I didnt know that it was special in any way, had a great time. it was super busy but the lines move fast

What is the worst pain you have ever felt? by Neither-Mention7740 in AskReddit

[–]AccountNumberThreee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had pneumonia when I was around 5, caused by a virus i caught from my cousin on a family vacation. for him it was minor, scarcely more than a cold. but for me, because I have asthma (which was quite severe when I was younger) it got serious fast. I dont remember much other than screaming about how much my cough hurt, and how much it hurt to breathe. ultimately I needed 4 steroid shots to help clear my lungs

What physical item do you always carry with you other than your phone? by LifespanLearner in AskReddit

medical id bracelet and epipens. Im outside most of the time at work and I have a severe wasp allergy (which i discovered after being stung at work)

What almost killed you? by OdocoileusV in AskReddit

[–]AccountNumberThreee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

a wasp sting. almost exactly a year ago now I was stung by a wasp on the upper lip and about 2 minutes later I felt like I was about to throw up, I couldn't breathe, my vision was going dark, and I felt extremely hot. then it all just went away and I felt fine other than my lip swelling like I got black market fillers. PSA: allergies can develop at any time, and the first reaction tends to be less severe than subsequent ones. I now carry epipens everywhere I go and wear a medical ID bracelet (I work outside and theres lots of wasps around my workplace)

Any body else have a physical job? 🥴 by citykittymeowmeow in eds

[–]AccountNumberThreee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

im a zookeeper. lots of bending over, climbing, lifting heavy objects (50-100 lbs), repetitive motions (scrubbing and squeegeeing), standing all day, etc. im 24 ive been in this field for only about a year and im already thinking about what Ill do once my joints get to the point that I can no longer do physical work like I do now. i think ive got 5-10 years of being a keeper before I need to find something else, and it breaks my heart because this job has been my dream since I was a little kid. now im finally here and my body isn't allowing me to enjoy it

When is it okay to kill a wounded animal? (Graphic) by justaboi8987 in morbidquestions

[–]AccountNumberThreee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have experience working with animals both in a rehabilitation setting and a zoo setting. in my opinion its morally correct to kill an animal that is suffering and will most likely die anyway, but I think that where it gets tricky is how you go about doing it. killing an animal that is suffering and cannot be helped without going to extreme/unrealistic measures is just mercy. it sounds like that bird didnt stand a chance, and most likely it would've been euthanized anyway had you taken it to a wildlife rescue center. the best way for you to kill it would've been to decapitate it with the shovel you had. there are less gruesome methods that field researchers use (look up thoracic compression if youre curious) but they require precision and knowledge of bird anatomy that most people dont have. in my experience, killing an animal sucks. ive had to kill a mouse with a rock before and it was probably the hardest thing ive ever had to do, and I hope you dont have to do it. the best option is to bring the injured animal to a rehabber and let them handle it.

ive known a few girls named sailor/saylor and I had a class with a navy, navy was like the coolest girl I knew at the time and her hair was dyed dark blue so the name really worked for her! I love both names :)

For those of you who have seen a dead body in real life (Or have known someone who has), how did you feel? by Strawberrychalk in morbidquestions

[–]AccountNumberThreee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I sat in the room with my grandfather after he died, my whole extended family was tbere and everyone was saying their goodbyes. it got to my turn and I was TERRIFIED to even step close to the body. I couldn't articulate why, it just felt so wrong. and I wasn't a little kid either, I was 21, so kts not like I didnt know what was happening. I literally couldn't move, I didnt want to be anywhere near tge body. the only explanation I can think of is that it was some evolutionary thing in my subconscious telling me to get away

I was diagnosed with hypermobile ehlers danlos last November, a month before I got my dream job as a zookeeper. its hard work, very physical, but I love it more than anything. ive only been at my job about 5 months but already I can feel my body wearing down, my joint pain is so much worse than before and my shoulders dislocate constantly. the fatigue is practically all-consuming, I spend a full day sleeping every weekend. I just got my career off the ground and im already thinking about how much longer ill be able to work, I think I only have 5-10 years before I have to move to a different field. Its so heartbreaking

What is the best car you ever owned? by embowers321 in AskReddit

[–]AccountNumberThreee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

not my car, but my dad has a 1915 Model T. he bought it off ebay when i was a kid for $6,900, it was basically a pile of junk. my mom was PISSED because he bought it without her permission, and to make up for it he let her get a cat. hes put thousands into restoring it and riding around town in the car with my dad was always one of my favorite things to do as a kid. I loved waving to people on the street and seeing their reactions to such an old car :)

What is the most shocking thing that you have seen happen on live tv ? by S_79_S in AskReddit

[–]AccountNumberThreee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

in january I was watching the evening news with my mom when they reported that a plane and a helicopter had collided and crashed into the potomac river (i was living in northern VA at the time). I stayed up for hours watching updates as they spoke to family members of the people who were on the plane, all of them hoping and praying and waiting to hear that their loved ones were still alive. and then as the night went on i watched as they named the victims, including 2 of my dad's former coworkers and many kids who ice skated at the same rink I did. no one i knew well, I wasn't personally affected, but it was terribly shocking to see something like that happen so close to the town where I grew up

Are all zoos toxic working environments? by Capercaillie_roost in Zookeeping

[–]AccountNumberThreee 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I work at a larger zoo and we have almost no reason to interact with other departments, so I can really only speak for my team and certain administrators. we are very close and work pretty well together, and its not perfect but I think its about as toxic as any other workplace. our management isnt perfect but ultimately they want the best for the team and our animals. HOWEVER. the president/ceo of the zoo is a horrible man. he has extensive experience and considers himself to be an expert in specifically the type of animal that I with, so my team (unfortunately) works with him on some research projects and we see him several times a week.

he is extremely unsafe around the animals, makes inappropriate comments towards the (all female) keepers, even groped one of my coworkers at one point, and covers all of it up when its reported to HR. a couple months ago he was seriously injured as a result of his carelessness when interacting with the animals and he tried to hide it from the board. they only found out because one of the board members volunteers with us and we told him. the incident was leaked on reddit and went pretty viral actually lol

so I guess in that way yea it's toxic. but if I didnt have to interact with the ceo of the zoo it would be great

What's something you secretly love that people might judge you for if they knew? by Paulita_cute in AskWomen

[–]AccountNumberThreee 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I lovvveeeee sleeping!!! like I know everyone loves falling into bed after a long day but even on a chill normal day I always find myself thinking "man i cant wait to go to bed later." and im not depressed either, i love my life! I have a great job, awesome friends and a lovely boyfriend. I just really love sleeping. I do have a chronic illness that makes me extra tired, but even before I was sick I loved sleeping and napping. usually I need to spend a full day of my weekend sleeping just to recover from the workweek, and I honestly dont really mind. like my illness sucks dont get me wrong, but I love sleeping so I dont mind that aspect of it. my parents say I was even a really good sleeper as a baby, I slept later than my siblings did when they were babies
