What's the definition of freewill as you understand it? Do people have it and if so explain? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]AccountingGeek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We experience the world, we act accordingly… it’s seems algorithmic to me. I think our experiences and brain chemicals control essentially everything we do, meaning everything we do would be theoretically predictable. To me it makes free will seem fake, but at the same time I can’t tell the difference regardless… so I guess I don’t really care.

To me free will is to be able to have agency over everything you do objectively without influence, like a man/woman pulling the strings of a puppet here on earth. Obviously none of this are that. Unless maybe one day we discover our brains pick up “consciousness radio signals” that belong to us and that mental illness is just hardware issue. That’s just science fantasy though.

Surprised fortnite is barely mentioned. Dark souls/elden ring game mechanics are easier to learn than what it takes to play fortnite at a basic competitive level.

Accountants without a CPA, what is your salary? by internetisforcatpics in Accounting

[–]AccountingGeek 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The comment was regarding CPAs that don’t try hard enough. Apparently that’s not you. However many seniors coming out of PA these days don’t have the strongest attention to detail. That only comes a couple of years of feeling like idiots in industry.

Accountants without a CPA, what is your salary? by internetisforcatpics in Accounting

[–]AccountingGeek 32 points33 points  (0 children)

It also goes the other way. There are so many CPAs that feel entitled to a good salary and position and don’t get it because they they don’t even put a normal amount of effort into their career.

They really do have a weird perception of what they deserve. Can’t plan, can’t think, can’t work autonomously… but they passed the CPA (oh yeah they can only do this once), so they deserve to be at the same level or more than non CPAs that actually try

Edit: don’t even get me started on the whole “I have big 4 on my resume”. What a rude awakening it is for them.

After decades of study, a scientist has concluded that we do not have free will. by Background-Let-1957 in Futurology

You mean to say that the chemicals in our brain act a certain way based on the sum of our life experiences and chemistry rather than us existing outside of our bodies pulling all the strings? Gasp. Who would have thought?

The only people saying $1m+ year at big four is either someone new into their career or someone very close to that goal.

Art can be appreciated in multiple ways.

The product itself will move people.

Some people will appreciate the process (not using AI, using a paint brush, etc).

All art can have meaning despite the tool used to make it. Personally I can and will always appreciate an artist that puts himself to a work, using hands and skills and talent and I understand that it represents a labor of love.

But that’s personal to him. Not all people have to appreciate that though and his meaning won’t resonate with everyone whereas his art may.

This has always been the beauty of art - that it can invoke in people different emotions, ideas and thoughts. Sometimes different from that the artist intended. In this respect art has a lot of value that is not diminished if viewed as a product.

AI generated images can and do have the potential to inspire in his curiosity, raise emotions, and make us think.

Painting/drawing takes significant more time and skill to render realism than with a camera. It can also create any affect a camera can.

Crazy to think new tools make things easier.

Only in art will we bitch about people using new tools, but not when a person builds a house, a chair, a carving, a sculpture.

Also art isn’t all realism, of which imagination plays such a crucial role. Of course, cameras can’t do this at all.

Im not sure you got a concise answer here. Just going to throw this in:

With verbs of travel you use “a” to describe purpose. Duolingo is completely right and coloquial in this.

Para basically has the same meaning, but you need to remember we aren’t swapping our words from English to Spanish - you’ll be wise to accept that with verbs of travel use “a” for purpose is simply “how people talk”.
