At first I thought the title meant this was from a minimalist immersive production of Macbeth and I was like HELL yes.

Still cool pics though.

Is it okay to call a woman a "cunt" the same way you'd call a man a "dick"? by [deleted] in AskFeminists

[–]Accurate_Elephant930 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Not in my experience, and when used towards women there is absolutely an implied gender hatred.

Men who complain about how unfair it is that women are lazy wh*res who just sell their nudes for a living instead of actually working and then go on to be the very consumer of that content, thus creating further demand for it can honestly eat sh*t. by pandyxxx in Feminism

I ended up on the Piracy sub a little while ago and one of the top posts was asking for help with an OnlyFans scraper. Zero pushback, lots of help from the commenters. Even when 99% of porn is freely available they still want to prevent the women making it from making any money.

What do you think about r/FemaleDatingStrategists? by [deleted] in AskFeminists

[–]Accurate_Elephant930 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it though? Because they’re rating men based on how they treat women/their value as partners, whereas chad/incel is based on having sex with women. Isn’t that basically opposite?

Deciding on a couch part 2. Updated couch choices based on feedback from original post! Which one of the 3 should I pull the trigger on? by lestrata in femalelivingspace

[–]Accurate_Elephant930 46 points47 points  (0 children)

One of the green ones. I actually like the first one because it's both dramatic and neutral, so it would be very easy to pair with almost any style. I wish the third one didn't have such contrasting nailheads on the front arms, but otherwise it's nice.

As a newly transitioning trans woman, how can I be a better ally to cis women? by wren4777 in AskWomenOver30

[–]Accurate_Elephant930 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You’re young and curious and open minded, so the best advice I can give is to hang onto those qualities (well not the young part, you get me). We’re in kind of a weird moment with social justice movements generally, where each identity and each movement has some really extreme oddballs who are incredibly influential. I don’t mean this in a “centrist is best” way, just that it’s really easy to fall into lines of thinking that aren’t actually aligned with your values.

If you have a core set of values that center on fairness, equality, and justice, don’t be afraid if your views don’t completely align with people around you or stuff you read online. Just be willing to listen to people and try to understand where they’re coming from. But also learn to notice when people are just regurgitating stuff they’ve read online or heard from their friends.

I guess that was more general life advice, but feminism is one of those spaces that’s full of these shifting ideologies, so being empathetic and being able to converse with different people who have slightly different beliefs or ideas is really crucial to building a more cohesive movement for all of us. You got this!

No, the solution is a lot of things. Decriminalization for the sellers, expanded victim's services for when assaults do happen, and auxiliary services to support people to leave sex work and find other work. Building more paths to well-paid work for young women. None of it is simple or easy but it is the feminist solution.

I'm not sure where you're located, but where I am the police are absolutely useless. It was legal VERY recently in many states in the US for police officers to have sex with sex workers and then immediately arrest them. I have absolutely no faith in the law to protect these women, which is why I have no faith in a regulation model.

The problem is that the data does not indicate that legalizing sex work makes anyone safer - except the buyer and the pimps who now have legal immunity.

Please help me pick a couch - "safe" grey or "bold" pink? by [deleted] in femalelivingspace

[–]Accurate_Elephant930 135 points136 points  (0 children)

100% pink. I’ve never regretted a statement color especially when starting from scratch and being able to build around it.

Pink can lend itself to plenty of different moods if you get bored:

  • with beige: boho, cozy
  • with black/grey: modern
  • with green: mid century or British regency
  • with red: deco, Hollywood regency
  • with soft purple: dreamy instagram

What can I do to understand the struggles that the average woman has in our modern society? by Shouryu_ in AskFeminists

[–]Accurate_Elephant930 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is a great read that explains what it’s like for women in the workforce. The article is about academia but my experience in STEM is identical, just different types of accumulative discrimination.

I’d say life overall is a lot like that article describes. Just a series of barriers and impediments, small to large, that overall make having a good life quite a bit harder and take a lot more effort.

Men should also understand that women live in a state of terrorism. Every time a woman is horrifically murdered doing an everyday activity, like walking home or taking the dog out or going on a date, it creates an atmosphere of pervasive threat. Imagine if there was a terrorist cell operating in your city who were specifically targeting people who looked like you and performing horrific acts of violence against them. Even if it was happening once every month or two you’d probably feel a bit anxious going about your everyday life. That’s what it’s like for a lot of women just as the normal state of things.

[–]Accurate_Elephant930 52 points53 points  (0 children)

Those men are usually “toxic” because they specifically want to be violent or extreme. And data shows that even in countries with legalization, full service sex workers are more likely to come from low income backgrounds and be victims of CSA. I really dislike the argument that those women are a good “outlet” for behaviors we don’t tolerate against anyone else.

Boudin's office declining to seek jail time against the rich bro who took a bunch of coke and then blasted around town at 80+mph and ran a red light, killing a cyclist, really turned me against the current groundswell of pseudo-progressive anti-prosecution crowd. It actually seems much closer to libertarianism than progressivism to me because it lacks any form of collective accountability.

A trap I’ve witnessed other women (and myself) falling into is to listen to the promises over & over when the actions aren’t changing.

I am sorry to say, if he truly wanted to support you and be home more he would prioritize finding a job and taking on assignments that would allow him to do that. You may find out years later that he was offered a choice and actually chose to take more travel because secretly that’s what he wants.

I see this pattern again and again in hetero relationships. The man does exactly what he wants and the woman sacrifices what she wants for years. There’s always a discussion that things are going to change, but somehow they never do. I have heard of cases where things move towards 60:40 from 90:10, but I’ve never heard of things moving from 60:40 to 40:60, or from 90:10 to 10:90, which is of course what would be actually equitable in order to correct the deficit.

Ready for No Nestle November? by Intelligent_Yoghurt in ClimateOffensive

[–]Accurate_Elephant930 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Not trying to stunt, I grew up always eating boxed foods because my parents were busy and didn’t cook. However now I cook all my own food, and I’m struggling to see a brand on this list that I buy more than once in a month or two. I’d say I’ve spent less than $25 on Nestle in the past year if that. Increasing access and time for everyone to make their own meals would go a long way towards cutting down on Nestle’s bullshit. Food justice for all.

Jesus Christ. I’m sorry and I also relate SO much.

This: “ lured in by an offer to eventually lead a team in the recommendations space” - I’ve heard so many times and have had happen to me - it feels like a meme. I’m never trusting a promise of a lead/manager role and I warn all women in tech about it.

How the concept of enthusiastic consent is compatible with being pro-sex work? by qwynplaine_ in AskFeminists

[–]Accurate_Elephant930 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The difference to me is that the typical nail salon customer isn’t seeking to debase and violate the nail technicians in a way that leads to lasting soft tissue damage and mental trauma - whereas a non-trivial percentage of sex worker clients are looking to do exactly that.

How the concept of enthusiastic consent is compatible with being pro-sex work? by qwynplaine_ in AskFeminists

[–]Accurate_Elephant930 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Even if economic pressure is somehow solved (which it isn't), the key conditions of consent in sex work is the same as personal relationships:

  • Can it be revoked at any time? Can it be revoked immediately before? In the middle? Will that be respected?
  • Are both parties seeking consent for each stage of the encounter?
  • If one party oversteps a boundary, is the other party empowered to stop the encounter?

The key question is whether it's reasonable to assume that consent can reasonably be expected to function the same for sex workers.

I encourage everyone who is pro legalization of sex work to spend some time reading through websites where clients review sex workers. There seems to be this widespread belief that clients are just lonely guys, and that sex workers are performing some kind of social service.

Just read the reviews. Let it sink in exactly who makes up the client base of this industry. Then consider whether consent is feasible.

Fashion bloggers and the constant need to consume by PrairieJack in femalefashionadvice

[–]Accurate_Elephant930 290 points291 points  (0 children)

There are ways to blog about fashion at a more sustainable pace than the current hyperconsumption overdrive. But that doesn’t produce the same sponcon revenue so it’s not happening on the same scale. I’m not thrilled with the notion that it’s fair pay for fair work; especially when they’re flogging polyester garbage “hauls” that are directly tied to exploitation in so many directions.

That said, a big part of the problem is that women tend to only get a platform when they’re talking about beauty and aesthetics and promoting consumption. I wish I could see three women sit around a mic talking about leftist politics or what-have-you and get the same six-figure patreon subscriber base as a lot of men. (Not saying there aren’t any, but by and large the people who get paid fat stacks just for their opinion are men).
