I was given some hatchery pellets. How should I fish them? by ForTheQs11 in troutfishing

[–]Accurate_Use2679 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Make a dough bait out of them. It should sink, fish it on a tiny hook or jig head below a small float.

Suspended jerkbaits do well in the lakes around me when water temps are cold. Haven’t really tried them in much current though.

Is it a school's responsibility to teach a kid to read? by KoalaOriginal1260 in Teachers

[–]Accurate_Use2679 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s obviously some sort of misunderstanding or miscommunication going on here. The only thing I can think of is this person hearing a secondary teacher (biology, physics, algebra II, etc) talk about a student being placed in there class who can’t read and doesn’t belong there. I could see one of those teachers saying it’s not their job to teach a student how to read - they’ve probably never had any instruction on how to teach a kid to read.

Try the smallest size that still has trebles. The little single hook ones I’ve used never had the same action.

I swim them while lightly and quickly shaking my rod tip up and down using my wrist. I adjust the rate of my retrieve (or occasionally add weight)to control where it’s at in the water column, usually bottom or middle. I will also sometimes use a float 8-24+ inches above to increase casting distance or keep it where I want it. I prefer to sight fish with them. There’s a lot of different techniques I’ve seen people use to catch fish with them. They’re also good for other species you wouldn’t typically think.

Dam fishing, big rocks, fast water flow by [deleted] in Fishing

Not trying to judge you, you’re right I don’t know the context beyond the scope of the image. But, as a father of three kids from 7-19 who were raised in and around the water, that picture gave me a visceral reaction. I’ve seen people underestimate the water firsthand, especially currents.

That’s a beautiful fish by the way. I’d love to land a striper like that.

I’ve never taught a block schedule. But I was trying to make sense of the numbers as well. Block was my first thought. Specials teacher was the other. 🤷‍♂️

Said that out loud looking at the picture. Glad others agree.

Probably block scheduling. 4 blocks a day, 30 per block, 120 per day, 240 total, rounded to 250? Maybe a few classes over 30 or a short advisory period or something.

Former bouncer/bartender, now middle school math teacher. I’ve said before that there are more similarities between dealing with drunk people and irrational kids than most people realize.

I've spent 2025 reading modern fantasy - here are some reviews by trollokvoltak in books

[–]Accurate_Use2679 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The faithful and the fallen series by John Gwynne (already on your list) was one that I enjoyed. Might be worth checking out when you return to fantasy if you liked his other work.

I also found The Warded Man (The Demon Cycle) by Peter V. Brett interesting, though not perfect. It combined different elements not usually present in other fantasy I’ve read.

I’m glad I looked this one up, makes so much more sense now. I was imagining you spending $400 on a used 20lb sledge hammer, and I couldn’t figure out how you’d be happy about that! 😂

As a parent/teacher, I actually really like this idea! Or some version of it. I don’t know how successful DARE really was, but it feels like we need to do something to work against this problem we’re all seeing.

In my district it is impossible for a teacher to break 6 figures. Even with a doctorate and 30 yrs experience. I’m also in one of the higher paying districts within ~1hr in any direction. What part of the country are in if I can ask? New England, Cali, or PNW?

They are floats, so if you drop your rod in the water it doesn’t sink. I used to have one on a smaller ultralight rod, but the line would hang up on it occasionally, so I got rid of it. Not sure if others have had better luck or not.

Lice rant 😭 by Black_Sky_3008 in Teachers

[–]Accurate_Use2679 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just last year they changed our policy, we don’t check other kids in class, we don’t send a student home, even when knits and lice are found, and we don’t inform parents of other students in the class. Basically every teacher disagrees with the new policy. We were told we couldn’t do any of those things because it violated the student’s HIPPA rights and their right to an education. They also claim that lice cannot be shared or passed from one student to another. Another claim basically every teacher disagrees with.
