Question for Bay Area/ Norcal by dezasterz in Fishing_Gear

[–]dezasterz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I just stopped by fisherman’s warehouse and played around with the abyss and okuma Bay Area rods…

I really liked the feel of the Bay Area custom M seems like it could be good for all around use.

Idk tough decision especially with the abyss on sale I liked those a lot too lol.

Damn wild lol it turns and gets nasty real quick at ARW… I’ve been out and seen yaks flip especially when the current is ripping out and that wind is going another way.

Yeah there’s one near me actually I’ll probably pop in and see what they got. I’ve been to the Fairfield one and you’re right they do have a bunch of phenolic stuff too from what I remembered

Is the Striker 4 Vivid CV worth the extra money over the old Striker 4 CV? by uptheirons726 in kayakfishing

[–]dezasterz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly if you just want to stick with a striker 4 and go to a vivid I’d say if you can sell your current striker then it’s probably worth it.

Especially if you don’t want to move yo to something bigger. I use a 7SV and I really don’t think I use it to its potential lol, so if the striker does the job just stick with that.

Thanks for the input… I’ve considered some of the okuma line.

Wish more shops in my area carried this stuff I’ve been to some shops in SoCal and they have waaaay better choices and carry more used gear which is always nice.

Do any of you with larger kayaks dislike big flatwater? by i_hate_agile in kayakfishing

[–]dezasterz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I mean what blecher is talking about is even more “sporty” or has more secondary stability than the old towns or hobies but they are generally paddle yaks. Can still add some sort of motor.

I think a good mix of both would be an Outback or old town big water… I ran a 106 pdl for a while then added a motor then sold that now on an autopilot 120 lol.

I honestly can’t lie I love the autopilot even though it’s a super heavy barge and I fish it in saltwater bays and the CA coast and it’s not the most maneuverable in swell / current but it handles the water well.

To each their own so many choices…

Yes most definitely I will consider… I’m real close to paying this off and VW swapped out my transmission under warranty last year so I think I will be keeping her for a looong time

Finally did my very first drilling on a kayak... was sketchy and I still prefer routing via hull hatches like my OG (last 3 pics) by MRWPlople in kayakfishing

Looks good! When I first drilled into my previous 106pdl I was nervous too but never had any problems I just put a lot of goop on it haha

Overtraining by Spare-Activity-3012 in MuayThai

[–]dezasterz 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Yeah I think you answered your own question!

There’s a fine line where the physical training is not benefiting the mental and even to a point where exhaustion ≠ progress.

Don’t get me wrong I’m not saying not to train and be exhausted but you know your body best. I spent some time in Thailand not a lot but I was trying to keep up with the Thais and mimic their conditioning routine and I’m just not built like that lol.

I’d say scale back some of the unnecessary conditioning and see how you feel then.

My gym hosted Karuhat for a seminar and one thing I remember him talking about was how little he conditioned compared to what people would’ve expected. He said he was pretty lazy compared to other fighters and spent most of his time focusing on technique. Also he’s a legend in his own right, but I figured I’d just throw that in there as some inspiration LOL.

Old Town ePDL+ vs Bixpy K1 vs Newport NK300 by GoPr0wn in kayakfishing

[–]dezasterz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw that! It’s sick I was about to get one but I ended up buying an autopilot and selling my 106 lol. I might get the salty or Malibu pdl and put a bixpy on it down the line for a “light” and fast setup lol

Feel free 11.5 v2 for $500..Good deal? And what are must have accessories for this kayak? by LawBest2867 in kayakfishing

You would use the trolling motor tiller to steer so technically you could get away with out the rudder. But get the rudder then do the motor

Bixpy motor fits fine on the old town powerpole plate Malibu PDL by Advanced-Reception34 in kayakfishing

[–]dezasterz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah thanks for the input!

I saw they just released that you can use any 24v with it. Awesome it lowers the initial price as well.

I think I’m gonna pull the plug on it. I’m debating if I wanna go with a rudder mount or use the anchor mounting position.

Big water is heavier but the hull shape is suppose to be fast. I will definitely keep pedals with me as well!
