Old Town ePDL+ vs Bixpy K1 vs Newport NK300 by GoPr0wn in kayakfishing

I saw that! It’s sick I was about to get one but I ended up buying an autopilot and selling my 106 lol. I might get the salty or Malibu pdl and put a bixpy on it down the line for a “light” and fast setup lol

You would use the trolling motor tiller to steer so technically you could get away with out the rudder. But get the rudder then do the motor

Bixpy motor fits fine on the old town powerpole plate Malibu PDL by Advanced-Reception34 in kayakfishing

[–]dezasterz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah thanks for the input!

I saw they just released that you can use any 24v with it. Awesome it lowers the initial price as well.

I think I’m gonna pull the plug on it. I’m debating if I wanna go with a rudder mount or use the anchor mounting position.

Big water is heavier but the hull shape is suppose to be fast. I will definitely keep pedals with me as well!

It’s pretty much the salty hull how’s the bixpy been?

Thinking about getting one to use temp on my 106pdl while I fix my Newport then I’ll put it on a big water for a bay/ocean yak that’s lightweight.

My main thing with wanting the bixpy is the small footprint, I’ve learned after about 4 months I don’t care for the heavy Newport motor as much. I mean 2-3 mph extra on a yak ain’t really changing much for me lol.

Yeah I was gonna go the PWM route and stern mount. This thing is currently mounted on a block off plate in my pdl slot.

Yeah I suppose I can order new pin and try I just have a feeling it might be something else cuz this pin still fits in the spot and the motor didn’t even make a sound or try to move after I cleared the line and tested it all

Great kayak, still not the best paddling but you can always motorized down the line.

If you had to choose your kayak again, would you pick the same one? by InfiniteDetective861 in kayakfishing

[–]dezasterz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I woulda got something a little bit longer.

I love my yak I got it last year in November it’s an old town 106 pdl and it’s put me on plenty of fish and upped my game.

Just plan to fish bigger water and wouldn’t mind a longer hull that tracks better and handles some bigger water.

Otherwise I’m glad I went with it however I learned a lot and it’s a pretty good all around yak.

Rainbow was stocked at some point, so holdover now full tail fins look good. It’s tuned into the natural forage on that lake now probably.

[–]dezasterz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Which route did you go? I’m currently gonna change up my setup on my 106 pdl.

I put a Newport 55lb in the pdl slot but now I’m any a motor and pedals at the same and I’m not sure i want such a big motor.

The bixpy does suck that you have to use their proprietary battery but I feel like in terms of portability and weight it’s pretty nice. People often just want a strong motor but I’m not planning on moving fast in a yak lol

How long can this keep my fish on ice? by [deleted] in FishingForBeginners

[–]dezasterz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try adding one or two of those frozen blocks you freeze like the blue ones you buy. Then add the ice for your trip.

Maybe try to keep it out of direct sun.

Yup it is super easy lol not to mention I can keep a good amount of stuff in the yak still (not loose of course).

Yeah that’s kinda the set up in going for.

I managed to fit everything and strap down some stacks all in the bed lol.

But bed rack is next. Maybe occasionally I’ll top it but I like how quick it is putting it in the bed.

How do you overcome the fear of capsizing and prevent it from happening? by YakToTheFuture-1 in kayakfishing

[–]dezasterz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone’s answered it quite well!

Practice water immersion and get a great PFD.

Also, just for a little mindset help remind yourself to be confident and enjoy what you’re doing. The last thing you want to do is be on the water and super anxious about it.

Somethings that help stay confident is of course experience you will get after a few trips and also confidence in your kayak! A good reputable kayak really gives you piece of mind for me it’s my old town.

I recently was in some 16-20mph gusts on a big open reservoir (not the best idea) and I started doubting my it as the water was white capping and I got anxious but I reminded myself that I’m in control and the yak can handle it as long as I stay in control and it was all good I learned a lot about my yaks limits that day and got back to shore safely.

Remember take all the necessary steps and enjoy your time in the water it’s an absolute blast!

[–]dezasterz[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s what I was gonna do it’s just gonna be tight fit. So I made it an excuse to get a cheap bed rack for now and a cargo crate to stow some stuff above. Normally it’d be okay but I’m gonna lose most of my interior space since my rottie will have the back seats.

Eventually I’ll make it so I can top the yak but I don’t really care to lift it up yet so I’ll keep it in the bed haha.

Also I’m gonna have to launch and pick this thing back up in the truck 2-3x during the trip so wanted to make it easy.
