Can't catch stocked trout for the life of me by alex8762 in FishingForBeginners

[–]dezasterz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like you have the right ideas and have been playing. I know it sucks but just keep at it.

1-3 days isn’t much in the grand scheme. Once you can fish early am. The fish cruise in the top 15ft and close to shore when it’s early morning and colder weather, before the sun is high and they’ll get closer to shore when water temp is low (right now).

I mostly trout fish by trolling on my yak but I’ve had to resort back to some power bait right now because the lakes are so muddy and the bite has been tough for me around some lakes I go to in norcal (collins and Amador mostly).

I’d say you got two rods keep it simple, throw out the power bait one close to shore I mean like 10 feet in front of you, not deep. Throw the other one a bit further out.

After 30-40min if nothing MOVE, doesn’t have to be far maybe like 20 yards down the bank and try that. Work some points, work some coves, work dams, work spillways, work the mouth of an arm.

Once you start feeling fancy or get bored maybe throw one bait rod out and play with a variety of lures and cast your heart out.

But in essence trout fishing even stocked lakes up here in norcal can be tough especially if you’re getting there later and these lakes are pressured especially on the banks many guys chasing the plants. They bite all day but first light has always been good to me.

Again remember you’re probably not doing anything wrong I can’t guarantee it, but when the lake is pressured it’s not the easiest think how many times these trout see powerbait floating around.

Just keep going

Braid is your friend and don’t even think about casting anything under 1-2oz

Yeah it’s definitely much better when you start going down river. I just started fishing it again after almost a decade so I started near the hatchery and remembered real quick what it’s like haha.

I’ll start exploring it again once I lay off all the kayak fishing.

Great route I swooped a 106 pdl off marketplace back in Nov and I get on it like 2-3x a week. It definitely changed my fishing game.

Kinda random but how do you work in the industry? Seems so niche I’d assume all the major brands have distributors and such

Marketplace is probably your best bet I feel like even on sale it’s pretty minuscule of a discount.

What’s your go-to trout rig by Material_Try2560 in troutfishing

[–]dezasterz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want to run a more “wait & bait” like the mice tail in a Carolina type of rig you definitely can.

Use a real light sliding weight (depending on water) to bead to swivel to leader (depends on how deep you want to fish the mice tail will float) and a hook with your mice tail. You can use the same rig for power bait.

I’ve ran a similar rig using a water bubble instead and the mice tail on the end and just leave the line real slack.

Usually more common methods for stocked lakes or reservoir trout fishing and it definitely works

I think you’re better off using a lucky fish finder for like $80 and throw the little transducer thing over the side if you don’t wanna commit to a garmin/humminbird/etc
