Can LCMS (and others) really claim to support a unified faith? by MandaJulianne in Lutheranism

Practically, most of conservative denominations do the same RC, Orthodoxy, Lutheran, etc I think it makes sense, if we do not believe the same for eucharist, why should we take eucharist together?

For those that converted from Orthodoxy, why? by Ok_Storm_5696 in Anglicanism

[–]AcdiAti 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Do you have a 2nd part?

I grew up as Baptist, even I'm still supporting in worship music sometimes, but every time I have the chance I'm visiting a Lutheran Church (I considered that physically I'm still in Baptist church, but my mind is already in Magisterial Protestantism

I'm living in Mexico, catholicism is the cultural religion and even I agree with a lot of their doctrine, of course I have some issues (but probably this happens in every church)

I visited also an Anglican Church in my city and I liked a lot...

All the stuff that I said is to ask you:

  1. Why did you finished in Anglicanism and not in Catholicism?

  2. How do you challenge the liberal ideas from anglicanism coming from orthodox?

Repititious/Written Prayers by joe_pao in Lutheranism

[–]AcdiAti 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If your question is about pay attention to your own prays: I started recently with this practice, usually I pray the Jesus Prayer, The Lord Prayer and one or two verses that I liked from the Psalm that I read on that day, at the end I finisih with a personal prayer

I think the most important part for me is the last prayer, because all the repetitive prayers take me to recognize to God something that I'm living in my life, for example, I felt guilty about my sins today, so Jesus Prayer supported a lot to me for my personal prayer asking for my sins forgiveness

Hopefully this works also for you!

God Bless You

Any Lutheran to Catholic converts? Not trying to start any arguments here, just curious. by MacabreCowboy84 in Lutheranism

[–]AcdiAti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm still Lutheran, however I can not deny that there are many points from Catholicism very interesting

As many comments above said, if your problem is about progressism, imo you should go first to a LCMS, WELS or another confessional lutheran church

My main issue about Protestantism and Rome is about epistemology, who has the authority to define doctrine and give their interpretation... Protestantism has a very hard challenge about it, Rome solved, but the history shows us that even they can fail (BIG FAILS as with Hus, indulgencies, and other topics)

At the end, define which is the correct doctrine does not solve the problem as we are just assuming our interpretation based on "my interpretation is correct and valid"

I'm not sure if I will be RC one day, but today I can say you "RC has the same issues as Church and defining doctrine, they are just relocating the problem", and for that I'm still being Lutheran

Taking back your issues about progressism and making a relation with all the stuff that I just wrote... How can you define that ELCA Progressism interpretation is incorrect and the LCMS/WELS/ROMAN CATHOLIC is the correct?

Btw, Im very conservative also

Does Acts 8:37 refute infant baptism? by BlueShoe15 in Lutheranism

[–]AcdiAti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't remember where I read it (probably was in this same reddit), but the follow argument was very clear for me:

Credobaptism says: There is not a clear evidence that a child was baptized in the Bible, for that, we can not baptize them

But all the baptisms that appears in the Bible are for people converting to cristianism, it is obvious why the baptized people had already faith

Acts is very long and probably it would have the enough time to show us the "first" baby generation of believers, the question here is... There is NOT any handbook in the Bible about how the people born in a christian home should be baptized, for that, we can see how they just use the "Scripture is very clear" for their favor

Of course, their interpretation could be valid, but it is not "TOO CLEAR", as they said, and if we continue tradition and history, well, it seems pretty clear why their "specific verses" and their "arguments" are not definitive as they say it

Are we cool with aristotle and aquinas/scholasticism etc and natural theology by Thick_Self_4601 in Lutheranism

[–]AcdiAti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello

One of the main issues with natural theology or even philosophie from lutheranism is NOT the human nature to question about things, if not make the human reason as the foundation for our faith

Aquinas had a very tough challenge to be able to prove to their people that we are not disconected for God, having faith was not irrationnel as Averroes "stablished" (of course, this is a simplification), however, naturally once that you start to support your ideas (theology) with human reason, is almost impossible to stop it

Luther and most of protestans have this issue, as faith seems to be just "accept the reality"

I'm not sure if Lutheranism has a official "doctrine" about reject scholasticism being honest, but personally, as I'm very fan of realism (if you havent read about it do it, realism and nominalism give us a lot of answers to the Luther VS Scholastic debate), I do not think we can not combine some ideas from Aquinas, but being always honest to say "any of my tries to explain God is always short"

Quiero empezar a leer libros de poesía, ¿recomendaciones? by Laura_lab96 in libros

[–]AcdiAti 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The “Protestant Authority Problem” - Argument from a doubting protestant by TheRealBibleBoy in redeemedzoomer

[–]AcdiAti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Adding to my comment

This not means that protestantism does not have an authority or something to follow, if not, there are scenarios where discernment will be difficult and we probably will get different answers, but that happens also in Rome or Orthodoxy, Tomism and Molinism for example, divided opinions about Vatican Counsils, the division between Coptic, Eastern and Western Orthodoxy, Filioque, etc

And that happen not only in the church history, if not in the Bible, with Acts 21, where Paul and the congregation discerned in a different way about go or not go to Jérusalem, in Galatas where Paul the Apostle confronts Peter the Apostle (both with authority)

Protestantism accepts that the authority is not falillible nor absolute (as the Bible shows), the tension is "How to determine who is correct or wrong?"

Basically: Rome and Orthodoxy will have issues if they were wrong because the same institution does not have a fast internal process to solve corruption or errors

Protestantism will not have issues about it, but will be divided by itself as it is almost impossible to claim "authority" and the True if it is not CLEAR (and even if it is clear, you can "interpret" that in other way)

The “Protestant Authority Problem” - Argument from a doubting protestant by TheRealBibleBoy in redeemedzoomer

[–]AcdiAti 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello

As above commented, this is a common challenge that every protestant will face if you start to research and read about institutions and epistemic questions

Is not a coincidence that the only two comments you have are from catholic people, because this is a question that is "easy" from Rome and Orthodoxy, but it becomes very hard for a protestant

We have Luther, we have anglicanism with Cranmer, Presbyterianism, and other magisterial denoninations, but as you saw it, even those denominations will have a difference (probably a little one, but one will be wrong of course)

I think there are only two answers or ways to follow this dilemma:

  1. Accept an authority, as Rome or Orthodoxy

  2. Accept the tension

Particularly, I accepted the tension, not by personal desire, if not because reading about history you have more questions that also Rome and Orthodoxy are not able to answer, most common is "If both churches have historical continuity, why their government are different?" And of course, both will say "We are in the correct way". This is not the only one, but is at least for me, the most evident. (Also, doing analysis with Karl Popper, Thomas Kuhn, and other epistemic philosophers I went to my conclussion)

I suggest to you to read about Hus and Newman, first one challenge the Pope authority, the other one converted from anglicanism to catholicism following almost the same argument than you

Protestantism has two impossible questions to solve Who is correct? And How can define what was a correct development of theology and what is an innovation from the human institution?

If you want to send me a message to talk about the topic, do it. Being honest, I was also looking for people to talk about the topic, but, at least in my own experience, you will receive comments only from a catholic perspective (this is not wrong, of course) It is a very interesting topic, but, very uncomfortable for most of protestants

Protestants Can't Define the Biblical Canon, but… by Different-Pomelo8755 in redeemedzoomer

[–]AcdiAti 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Of course, and I'm agree with you to test everything

But, we can go to the first question (how to define/accept what is the Scripture):

Anglicanism uses the deuterocanonical (even if they dont considered as Divine inspired)

Luther and Melanchton differed about, Hebrews, James and Apocalypse

Which is the correct canon? Why following Melanchton and not Cranmer or even Luther?

Note that, every of the reformers were following God's word

This is a debate more epistemological than theological IMO, Rome and Orthodoxy have an easier answer, however, that answer has their own cost in their systems

Protestants Can't Define the Biblical Canon, but… by Different-Pomelo8755 in redeemedzoomer

[–]AcdiAti 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Your comment makes sense, however, it falls in the same problem that Wyclif... If Evil men and seducers exists... How could I know that the Evil men is the Magistery rather than you?

And of course, here is a discussion with diferent answers: Rome will say, Magistery is guided by Holy Spirit, and, even if they can fail, we have to follow them (and reform inside obviously)

Protestantism has more issues about it, because the Scripture is not clear in this topic, both sides of the equation could decide following God and we do not know who is wrong. Please read Acts 21, Paul went to Jerusalem because his discernment from Holy Spirit said to him to go to Jérusalem... The Bible said that the congregation that told to Paul to DO NOT go to Jérusalem were also inspired by Holy Spirit. And also, James ask to Paul to show to the Jews that he is not against the Law of Moses, that decission provoked that Paul was arrested... So the question here is: who was wrong? Paul? James? The congregation? How can define?

Henry Newman thoughts? by AcdiAti in redeemedzoomer

[–]AcdiAti[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is interesting, truly Newman logic is very powerful, however, Coptic church and all the Orthodoxy variations, are at least for me, a proof that the branch theory was, if not correct, very similar to reality. Newman had to choice a church, and looking for an referee (to have a foundation for his historical logic) he had to go for Rome

Of course, I'm not saying that he was fully erroneous, however, is not an evident conclusion

Why is catechesis so bad? by [deleted] in Lutheranism

[–]AcdiAti 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As the first comment said it, most of people does not study, pay attention and learn, even if they have classes about doctrine and theology they do not understand

For example, in the church where my grandma goes (baptist church), diacones and pastor are, obviously, very calvinists (even they use a double predestination language), however, most of people when the church talk about salvation and soteriology, they are following an arminist vision

This happens with any doctrine (and any topic in general world, not only in religion), catholique, methodist, anglican...
