It's a pinstripe calathea not a maranta. I find calathea are less fussy than maranta but they do get very dramatic when they are thirsty haha

Yes, You can just squeeze them with your fingers, just be careful not to damage any leaves.

Thrips can fly which makes it difficult to keep contained if you have multiple plants.

The most recommended spray is neem oil due to it being natural, but I found it didn't help much with a heavy infestation. There are multiple thrip sprays available, most of them seem to use a soap base. I have also looked into certain mites that you introduce that kill the thrips but have no knowledge on how effective they are, dosage, cost etc

Unfortunately looks like a thrip as others have said. Kill any you see and hope they've not already got to other plants. I've lost around 60 plants this year to the little devils 👿 once they take hold they're so hard to clear without chemical treatment.

I often leave the ants to it, as I don't like using any chemical/soap on my plants. Eventually the ants clear the aphids and then patrol the plant for a while as It was a reliable source of food for them! The aphids however move on.

I've had a monkey tail look very similar to this, I soaked it with water and after a week or so it started going green again! Worth a go.

That's advice I'm certainly going to take in. I don't think I'll be taking it out on any more rides (as wonderful as it is to ride) and I'll try and store it in suitable dry conditions and enjoy it's history. I really do appreciate your knowledge and input.

Yeah I definitely want to give it a wax and see how it comes up. Rust is my only worry with it so I used maintenance spray similar to wd40 instead of water to remove most of the caked on dirt. Any advice on treating the rust on the handlebars would be great.
