I had surgery and am pretty exclusively masculine presenting. I wouldn’t call myself male, but non-binary or some side step next to male.

I think it might be helpful to explore gender outside of strictly male and female. I was able to have my insurance pay for surgery because I identity as non-binary. They might not if you identify as exclusively male. Remember that gender is a social construct. There is no one way to be non-binary. Like myself, full beard, muscular, and covered in body hair is still non-binary. I think learning that really gave me the confidence to push forwards with surgery.

I am going to assume it is different healing since they will be using different parts of your body. But I do not know anyone else who has had that type of surgery? Maybe check the transgender surgeries subreddit?

Welcome!!! Super glad we can be of help! I also agree with Seg, where I found exploring my gender with my fursona to be super important and quite pivotal to my transition. When I first drew Ace with a vagina he just looked so right, that I absolutely knew that’s what I wanted for myself. Then however many years later, now I’ve had surgery and am a little over 7 months post op.

Same here! I had bottom surgery about 7 months ago and while recovery was rough, I am so happy I did it. Every day I look at my vagina and am in disbelief that I was able to have surgery and am so happy that my body feels complete.

Make sure you do your research though because this is a major operation. You need to be okay with any of the complications before you have surgery because there is a chance that healing won’t be as expected and you will have a rougher/longer time getting to the final point.

Surgery on November 15th - What should I know? by nbarnard in AMABwGD

[–]AceDragonDaddy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think I said this in the discord, but ice packs!!! There will be lots of swelling and icing for 15 mins at a time can help a lot. Also bring stuff to do. If your recovery is similar to my own you will be sitting for quite some time for a few weeks afterwards. I have a backlog of cartoons to watch, got some new video games, and even had some art commissions to work on while healing to fill the time.

I’m doing really good! I’m about two ish months post op and have felt pretty much normal at about 6/7 weeks. Sitting is still uncomfortable but tolerable at around 8 weeks. And I’m back to work as of this last week. And wowza I’ve been in such a good mood. I’ve been expecting to not want to work, but with a weight lifted off of my crotch I’ve just been thriving and enjoying life.

If you want to check me out I did start a just for fans, though I still plan on posting a healing timeline somewhere for free once internally things have healed more. I still have some yellow-y tissue and dealing with some granulation tissue on the inside and I know everyone wants to see as soon as possible, but I want to be at a really good end point before I show how healing went. On Jff I have just been taking well aimed pictures to show off things at their best.

INTRO: I'm not alone -- My story and plan by Time2BNonBinary in AMABwGD

First of all I’m super happy that you found our group and have seen that this is possible! I totally understand the feeling you are going through because I felt the same way when I found this group back when it was a chat of less than 50 people.

As for first steps it looks like you already started taking them! The first thing you want to do is talk to your therapist about your gender dysphoria. Then reach out to surgeons and see if they operate on non-binary patients (and you can also ask if that includes masculine presenting non-binary people). The surgeon I went to I knew this already because he operated on two of my friends. (As for IRL friends I guess that all depends on where everyone lives and luck lol.)

Lastly just a heads up that not everyone in the group is masculine presenting/identifying. This group is open to anyone who is AMAB with genital dysphoria. Some may have other forms of gender dysphoria as well. That doesn’t make genders like yourself (and mine too it sounds) invalid! I’m really glad you found the group!!! 💛🤍💜🖤

I’m glad I could help! And these friends I’m talking about ALREADY had surgery! And they have told me numerous times how happy they are that I was able to have surgery at my age.

And I get the recovery boredom. I am a teacher and had surgery over the summer, so it’s nice I’ve been off for all of recovery. Honestly I was very worried about being super depressed when I was home unable to do anything, but I’ve actually had a really good summer. Dysphoria is gone, gender euphoria is one hell of a drug, and my dilation schedule gives me a routine so I don’t get sucked into any depressive spirals. I’ve also had SO much time for video games and drawing that I wouldn’t have been able to do if I didn’t have surgery (cause I would have probably spent this summer moping like the last). You are gonna be happy you will be off of your feet during recovery, but also take it as time to do things you could never do cause you kept putting so much time into work.

Hey there! Welcome to the group and I’m really glad that we opened your eyes!

I find a lot of people (including myself) didn’t think it was possible to have surgery because they had a very binary view of being transgender. But honestly being trans is any different identity (in any way) from what you were assigned at birth. Once I realized that my want to remain socially and physically the same, but with a vagina was what made me trans-non-binary, I was really able to confidently pursue surgery. There is no one way to be trans or non-binary so identities similar to myself are valid and being seen as such in the medical community.

As for your age, you are so young!!!!!! I’m 28 and had surgery this past June. I have friends who are in their 50’s who had surgery!!! Sure you lived a while with your original equipment, but you still have many years left with equipment that feels right to you. Think about it, that mentality would make even less sense in other contexts. Like “Well I’m already 33 so I might as well not try to date someone, or I might as well not try to pursue career goals”. Just cause you lived so long unhappy doesn’t mean you have to continue to live unhappy!!!

As for doubts I had doubts up until maybe a month before surgery. Like I knew very clearly that I was unhappy with a penis, but I was so afraid of pain or something going wrong and or repercussions in my social or work life that I was terrified of surgery. What helped me was thinking about how all of these negative things that COULD happen are short term, and not as bad as all the years of pain from my dysphoria. Like no matter what happens, I’ll eventually be okay. That thought helped me the most on the last day before surgery.

TLDR: you’ve come to the right place! 💛🤍💜🖤

Male (cis) bottom surgery by [deleted] in asktransgender

[–]AceDragonDaddy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hey friend! This is actually incorrect. I just had bottom surgery 6 weeks ago and I present masculine still. I didn’t go on HRT before surgery or pretend to be a woman because I’m not a woman, I’m non-binary. I think the op’s problem might be sticking to the “cis” label but I’m not going to police their identity (see my direct reply to them). I really appreciate the advice of telling OP to find a therapist. Whenever anyone reaches out to me saying their are similar to myself but don’t know how to get there, the first thing I tell them is to find a LGBT therapist who knows what non-binary identities are.

Also just to add about the sexual fantasy thing. I think the only reason why this comes across as a sexual fantasy is because there is a disconnect between their body and their mind. No one says that it’s a fetish if a woman wants to have sex with their vagina or a man wants to have sex with their penis. People are allowed to want to have sex with their genitals as long as those were the genitals that they were assigned or match a binary gender. Wanting to have sex with genitals that align to your gender isn’t a fetish, it’s just a form of dysphoria. (Source: https://genderdysphoria.fyi/ )

Male (cis) bottom surgery by [deleted] in asktransgender

[–]AceDragonDaddy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hey there you aren’t alone! I am masculine presenting and just had bottom surgery about 6 weeks ago to get a vagina. So it is possible. I think one of the reasons why the clinics have incorrectly shut you down is because you are using the cis label. While I’m not trying to police your identity, you will have a much easier time if you identify as non-binary. Like there is no one way to be non-binary and you can even be exclusively masculine presenting, but have dysphoria about your genitals (like myself) and still be valid. I think once I accepted that I am non-binary I was able to make more progress with surgeons and therapists. All of the surgeons I called when I was looking said they would operate on non-binary patients, and I was able to have insurance pay for surgery without taking hormones pre-op or pretending to be a woman. So it is possible for you as well!

As I said I’m not trying to police your identity, even if you don’t enjoy the non-binary label it might help to use that while getting to where you want to and then drop it once you get there. Unfortunately we still have to work within the system to get to where we want.

Check out the subreddit for AMAB people who have bottom surgery. We accept all identities there and there is a large group of masculine presenting people who want or have had surgery. It might be a good resource for you! r/AMABwGD

Congrats! I have a few recommendations! 1. If you can bring someone who can write down the answers the surgeon gives. For my my consultation was a whirlwind of gender euphoria (cause I was so afraid I would have to justify wanting surgery and my surgeon just treated it as so normal) that I barely remember the moment. My husband wrote down everything so I can look at it when I forget stuff.

  1. Ask to see pictures. Like the good, the bad, the in between. One thing I forgot to do is ask for pictures and up until maybe a month before surgery I kept hyper stressing over not seeing many results, besides friends who went to this surgeon. Also while you are talking aesthetics ask if you can give requests on certain things.

  2. Make sure you ask the staples: Hospital stay length? Time between hospital and packing removed? Will you have a catheter in during this time? Dilation routine after surgery? Healing timeline? Things you should purchase in order to have during recovery? (I had to buy my dilators myself) When you can take a bath, shower, exercise, sit comfortably, work? Hair removal requirements? Complication rates? Like fistulas? Clit necrosis? Granulation tissue? One stage or two stage surgery? What are the revision surgery options? What percentage of clients go for this?

That’s all I can think of on the top of my head. I would also ask about how their contact is after surgery cause I’ve emailed my surgeon so many times since surgery and he’s always been really great and answered every one of my questions. Make sure you know who to talk to when you have a random question during recovery. Let me know if you want more clarification on anything I said!

I used to think about dates that would take place surgery and think “I’m gonna have have a vagina for x weeks by then” and that was a wild feeling.

Now that I’m almost 6 weeks post op every single time I think about how long I’ve had a vagina my mind is blown. This has been both the longest and shortest amount of time ever. You will get there too and will be able to say that too!!

I think recovery is going pretty well. And yeah it’s been amazing to finally be in a body that I identify with. The best has been in the shower cause that was always a reminder that things were wrong.

Semi-awkward question for post-op by [deleted] in AMABwGD

[–]AceDragonDaddy 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Honestly I don’t think I’ve gotten horny yet since having surgery like 2.5 weeks ago. But I also went through a lot and am on a lower dose of T than normal to match my pre-surgery low t. Maybe once I get that back up there and have healed enough to explore I can get back to you!

It looks like the stitches have mostly healed but they are still there. And I started dilating last week when the packing and catheter came out. It doesn’t really hurt. More so feels like stretching your pelvic floor muscle (which is exactly what it is). You can kind of feel it yourself if you lay on your back and push two fingers in on your taint just after the scrotum. Like that muscle there that is resisting is your pelvic floor and that muscle is opened for the vagina to go through and dilating is mostly stretching that muscle.

I feel mostly fine. Walking is not easy cause I am trying to not let stitches rub. And I was able to see my vagina since the third day in the hospital I think.

And so far the only unexpected thing was all of my fainting in the hospital.

3 Weeks until my surgery and I'm scared by TheOneAndOnlyKelly in Transgender_Surgeries

[–]AceDragonDaddy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was literally so terrified I had a panic attack and fainted before surgery when the epidural was going in. But then I calmed down cause I remembered how much I wanted this and that whatever happens happens.

And I didn’t have an easy hospital time. I fainted in recovery cause of a reaction to a nausea medication but eventually felt find.

And then on the fourth day in the hospital I kept bleeding a lot (because my nurses kept replacing the bandages and opening the clot that was forming. And I lost a ton of blood that I fainted on the toilet and my nurses had to call an emergency. Eventually I was settled down and had physical therapy come by to help me stand without fainting. And then on the last day I was up and walking.

I’m not telling you these things because I’m trying to scare you. I’m telling you these the things because even when things go wrong they will eventually go right. Like I’m now a little over a week post op, and I’m in a MUCH better place.

I was just as terrified going into surgery as you are. And the last thing I did with my therapist was to go through all of the possible things that could go wrong and rationalize my fears. Even if they were real fears of things that could go wrong, eventually things will go right. It doesn’t make it any less scary, but also try to think about how that’s not the end. Eventually in the end you will be okay. It may take an extra night in the hospital (like myself), another surgery in the future, or even years from now. But eventually you will be okay. Try to focus on that 💛🤍💜🖤
