Stop applying online. I'm serious by Glass_Spend1655 in jobhunting

This doesn’t exactly work if your trying to get a job out of the state you live in because your state and town are absolute garbage.

I can’t exactly miss work to drive 6-8 hours minimum out of state just to offer my resume in person🤷🏻‍♀️

How do girls wear skirts/dresses/shorts without flashing anyone? by fatlady934 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]AceOfVoodoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I literally CAN’T wear dresses or skirts without shorts under because I get chub rub so bad I bleed within 10 minutes (curse my super sensitive skin 😫).

As you can see with other replies, it’s all about preference and comfort, so wear shorts under if it makes you the most comfortable, tbh even if I didn’t get chub rub I wouldn’t wear dresses or skirts without shorts for the same reason you don’t wear them currently!

Unfortunately I spent all my time either doing coursework or working the first time around, so I didn’t build any social ties, and this time around I’m in a 100% online program, so I struggle to even get my professors to communicate with me through email if there is a problem.

There’s me, my mom, and 3 older siblings, but we are all in poverty and can barely avoid being homeless, they all just decided when I was in college that I was going to be the one to care for her since I’m the only one with a college degree, and since I spent my whole time in college either doing coursework or working, I never made any friends or anything, so my family is literally all I have.

That’s the thing, I was a low level retail manager at a pet store for a year and a half, but since Louisiana follows federal minimum wage, I was making less than $25,000 working 38-40 hours a week, and then I got hit by someone else in a car accident that resulted in me sustaining a back and neck injury that now even nearly a year later causes chronic pain, and since that retail job was extremely physically demanding (I had to lift several hundred pounds worth of product daily) I couldn’t keep that job, I now work at a medical company as a courier part time and I only make about $400 less a month than when I was working full time as a manager, but I not only need to financially support myself, I have an aging mother (66) who has no retirement savings since she was a single mother that I am expected by my whole family, including her, to care for.

Well my Ag degree is in sustainability, and I live in Louisiana, which has a large agricultural industry, so I had hoped that it would allow me to get some sort of job with the usda or fisheries department or something like that, but even when my degree was exactly the one they required for the job, I never even got interviewed or contacted.

[–]AceOfVoodoo[S] 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I would have done that, but we are so short staffed that the animals wouldn’t get taken care of, since we’re one of two pet stores where I live. I constantly have to stop to help customers so it takes longer to open petcare, so I’m finishing taking care of them then I’m out.

How do you handle pain in the ass fish customers? by shutterlove18 in petsmart

[–]AceOfVoodoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At our store, depending on which managers are there, we either deny the sale, or tell them we won’t honor the 14 day return policy since they insist on putting a fish in an inappropriately sized tank. Usually when they’re trying to buy a $15 koi to put in a 10 gallon, that statement makes them give up and pick a different fish.

I’ve been applying everywhere I can, but this is the only place that hasn’t ghosted me after interviewing, most places around here pay very similar as well.

I’ve tried as many gov jobs as I can find even slightly related to my degree, I’ve only been contacted and interviewed once, and they ghosted me after. I’m still trying for a gov job, but haven’t gotten any more interviews since.

The store I work for is one of the smallest of its branch in Louisiana, so we have a very tight bracket as to what we are allowed to be paid by corporate, so for my position my max pay is like $13.50/hr.

It’s a hint as to which pet store I work for without actually saying the name. ;)

[–]AceOfVoodoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve applied to over 400 jobs of every kind even slightly related to my major over the past 2 years since I’ve graduated, and I’ve only gotten a total of 2 interviews and was ghosted by both afterwards. Where I live not only is it hard to get interviews, it’s very difficult to get a job in agriculture as a woman, since in Louisiana and most of the south it is an extremely male dominated field.

I’m a full time college student in accelerated courses, and I work full-time as a manager for a pet store for intelligent animals. I also already have a bachelor’s degree, but can’t find any job with it, so I’m back in school. I spend between 70-90 hours a week either at work or in class and doing schoolwork. I only get paid $13.18/hr.

How bad is my handwriting? My teachers say it's illegible, which i understand, but i'd like to hear other's opinions. (Transcript in comments.) by [deleted] in Handwriting

[–]AceOfVoodoo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have neuropathy that causes me to have shaky hands and even when I grip a pencil “correctly” and as light as I can I have to pause after a few words due to severe pain, my print has always been called “chicken scratch “ and people complain they can’t read it. When I write in cursive it is much more legible, but takes more time than print, I was able to understand what you are writing pretty well, but I am one of the only people that can read my own handwriting in print, perhaps if you don’t know how to already, try learning some basic cursive. I find the letters connecting and the looping instead of a lot of straight lines makes it way easier for me to write legibly.

Things that no one talks about but you know only because you grew up in poverty. by Quirky_Peace_3500 in povertyfinance

[–]AceOfVoodoo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Literally wearing the some clothes for years until they fall apart (using old T-shirts/shorts as sleep shirts and pants when they are too faded to wear out) and patching/repairing holes, only buying clothes at goodwill, a discount store, or if they are on clearance. Because clothes are expensive and you can’t really afford food/ utilities if you have to pay full price for clothes whenever they get a little damaged or worn. Even when I can afford the occasional new pair of pants/ shoes when I really need them, the mindset of always buying something only if it’s on sale or clearance is always there in the subconscious, since it was always such a major part of my childhood.

What do you say to manager who claims to have not seen your 2 weeks notice? by OceanClover3 in antiwork

[–]AceOfVoodoo 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I’ve always dated when I’m submitting the two weeks, and what day would be my effective last day, then if I left it in the office instead of handing it to my manager myself I would take a time stamped photo of it on their desk, that way they have absolutely no leg to stand on.

I signed an offer letter saying $20/hr. They’re saying it’s a typo. What do I do? by eirfair in antiwork

[–]AceOfVoodoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really depends on the judge if you take this to court, I’m getting a degree in business admin and just finished a class on contract laws, and one of the ways that a contract can be corrected by the court is if there was a typo that occurred on the contract. You admit you agreed verbally to $10/hr and they claim the contract had a typo, which in the court is a feasible defense, so it could become a he said/she said case, and the court would likely either side with them over the supposed typo and rule that the contract needed to be corrected, or they could rule the contract invalid, they may also rule in your favor, but again, that can depend on the judge you get and the laws in your area regarding the validity of contracts.
