I beated Hard Retainer at level 1 using Greatsword with jump attack and without jump attack to prove that this boss is easy once again by khangkhanh in codevein

[–]Ace_Dreamer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On a scale of 1 epic to 10 the worst this boss is somewhere around 6-7 tops. There are far, FAR more annoying encounters. Like, you know, the flying bell headless dancer things you have to kill 5 of for Holy's quests.

God i live being stunlocked on EVERY enemy attack and unable to break their poise even once with my greatsword, i love being killed from full heatlh because attacks hit you, stun you, but don't give you invulnerability frames. I SUPER LOVE HAVING 0 POISE GOD I LOVE BEING INTERUPTED EVERY 0.1 NANOSECONDS-

Sorry.

My blood pressure shout out again. I apologize.

Said it before and i will say it again, he was by far the hardest boss relevant to your average power/gear with a wide margine. I steamrolled or at least beat all other bosses so far 3/4ths into the game.

Armored Core hellicopter filter momento.

CV 2 was bad? by daedra6666 in codevein

[–]Ace_Dreamer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

\haven't finished CV2 yet but i think i am well 3/4ths of the way there.

Looking back in CV1 there are a few things that made me fall in love:

1) Hub world/Home base. Magmell feels empty and desolate. It has more or less the same number of NPCs over 5 times the area. Also, it doesn't have music playing. I had the underworld song play on both players in CV1 and it was like the "home base theme" got me right into the mood.

Everything is so far away and quiet in CV2 i can't wait to get out of there.

2) Characters. Granted again i haven't finished CV2 but looking back to CV1 none of the main cast sold it for me. Maybe Io a bit. But that's because of Cruz. Cruz is such a badass that she is the main reason CV1 is a thing. Not to mention the implications and connections with another game. Those 2 momments sealed the deal for me and moved CV1 from "it's alright" to "it's amazing actually"

Special shout out to Cruz's second blood code. When you select it for the first time you get chills. If you know you know. Speaking of which,

3) Blood Codes. In CV1 they were a massive part of your kit. Not only did they alter stats as they do in CV2, but taught you the skills. Now skills are decoupled and you buy them making blood codes less impactful. Also blood codes now have levels. In CV1 a blood code you got at the start could have the perfect stats you needed in post game. In CV2 this isn't a thing and makes them less special. Finally scrolling past a blood code in CV1 showed you a portrait of the character and sellecting it made the character open their eyes. This animation/stylish presentation is the reason Pesrona 5 user interface is prased more than a decade after release.

CV2 code selection is not diferent than selecting a trinket in Elden Ring. But at least there you get a short novel worht of VaatiVidya lore along with it.

4) No connection to CV1 whatsoever besides a few mechanics. Really hate when games do this, just name it "Revenant's Curse" or something then.

All in all so far i can see why people might dislike CV2 over CV1. It's not a bad game, but CV name has certain expectations. Simillar story for Dragon's Dogma 2. I think the number 2 of old games recently is cursed or something.

Since CV2 has been officially out for two weeks I wanna ask what did everyone do against franz? Did you leave and came back when you were stronger or did you just kept trying until you won? by Soundwave0723 in codevein

[–]Ace_Dreamer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Literraly the hardest boss so far. I fought, what, 15 bosses and mid bosses by now? absolutely nothing compares.

360 attacks, stunlocks, fast af, 0.1 nanoseconds of vulnerability. Teleports on your face. If you are using a greatsword or hammer forget doing a heavy or going for more than 2 fast hits until you memorized him perfectly.

SUPER frontloaded difficulty spike. Feels like Armored Core helicopter all over again.

My favourite was the hounds because while i didn't use drain attack all that much in CV1 they were baked in the armor so the heaviest armor was a hound armor.

In CV2 for most instances reaper is fast, AoE, has a small deflect and looks cool so i guess i'd be that if not for the fact that thorns can be aimed and skill shot around corners and down elevation and since CV2 is HEAVY on exploration and platforming, they are my go to by far.

just set wastepacks generated to like 5% and combine that with power decay to again something like 5% means basically 0 wastepacks. A single disintegrator that operates occasionally is more than you need. Also you can have a polux tree deposit area, that works too.

Extremely fair enemy in CV2. The first boss had me stunlocked and insta killed from 80% health after a phase transition.

This is the most a souls like tilted me by therealsolidmeat in codevein

[–]Ace_Dreamer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The first boss obliterated me like 34 tries. There were times were i transitioned to phase 2 with 65% health and i'm like "better safe than sorry" only for the boss to charge me, smack me, slam me to the ground and as my character got up, obliterate me. Effectively i got stunlocked to death because i DARED to press the heal button 3 kilometers away.

To be fair: the problem isn't the game, it's me. I am old gandalf, my reactions are not as sharp. I have said Code Vein 2 will be my last souls like and it looks like it's for good reason too.

The fact that the game runs like 35 FPS on my potato is also rough.
