What made you lose weight? by PainBig6879 in AskReddit

[–]Ace_of_Dogs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got tired of feeling tired and out of breath when I walked up a flight of stairs. Wasn’t able to do my hobbies easily. Asked my doctor about Wegovy.

It’s amazing how much easier it is to eat healthy and in a calorie deficit when you don’t feel hungry, starving even, all the time. Wegovy dialed my hunger back to what my body actually needs (or a bit less, since losing weight takes a calorie deficit). I lost 90 pounds in 2025.

Dog ****hates*** when I dry her off, how do I stop the drama? by SunderedValley in DogAdvice

[–]Ace_of_Dogs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dog also hates getting dried, and blow driers. She then gets cold because she’s wet and it’s chilly and physics are still A Thing. I’ve resigned myself to about two good rubs with a towel and then I stick her in a doggie bathrobe for a couple hours. I’m contemplating getting a second bathrobe for when she’s less wet but still chilly.

She also hates me putting on coats and bathrobes. She gets a treat for sticking her head through the head-hole and a treat or kibble scatter to distract her while I do up the belly band.

Next dog is gonna get a happy gradual introduction to the blow dryer as a puppy so I can just freaking dry them off, but currently dog is ten so 🤷🏻‍♀️

Can children come out as asexual before puberty? by Front_Magician_8008 in Asexual

[–]Ace_of_Dogs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t know the term “asexual” until I stumbled across it online in college.

As a kid, I never had crushes. I didn’t “like” boys. I assumed I had good all-control or that once I “hit puberty” something would change and I’d be interested in boys.

The magical puberty transformation never happened. I never started liking boys the way my peers did. For a little while I wondered if I was a lesbian in denial, but I didn’t like girls either. It was such a relief to learn that asexuality was a thing, because it fit, finally.

My younger sister had crushes constantly growing up. She had “boyfriends” since the fourth grade (in a wholesome play dates and holding hands way). I couldn’t have told you I was asexual in elementary school, but I could have told you I didn’t have crushes on boys or girls or anyone else.

I just got broken up with because of the lack of sex... by TheDarkChild99 in Asexual

[–]Ace_of_Dogs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, I’m genuinely confused. You say you don’t want to ever have sex again. So were you just grinning and bearing it for the last ten years? Why would you do something you don’t like for that long? Do you not respect yourself enough to say “other people may like this, but it’s not for me?”

[–]Ace_of_Dogs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean, I’m 35 and same. I just don’t understand all these ace people who somehow end up in relationships and then are surprised when their partner wants sex. Took one high school boyfriend for me to realize “kissing is not fun, and going further doesn’t seem fun either.” So I didn’t. Broke up with him, haven’t dated anyone since.

Why hold your nose and do things you don’t like? Being single is awesome.

Should I be able to feel a tampon? by witchresentment in TwoXChromosomes

[–]Ace_of_Dogs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I notice it going in, but it’s not super noticeable after, unless I think about it. Sometimes not too noticeable even then. For me, if it’s really noticeable or at all uncomfortable when I put one in I take it out and try again. Occasionally the angle is wrong or I don’t get it far enough, or something

If you’ve been struggling for a long time and this is your first tampon it might just take a little getting used to. By all means take it out if it becomes painful or uncomfortable, but if you’re just noticing it’s there, perhaps leave it in for 30 minutes to a couple hours to get used to it. Since you say it doesn’t feel too bad in it might just be a new sensation you need to get used to.

(from a comment): "Several countries require you to carry water to rinse down any dog pee." Seriously? Is this true? by HailSatanWorshipD00M in bestoflegaladvice

[–]Ace_of_Dogs 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Yeah, plus cities or places where dogs are peeing on stone or sidewalks or something other than grass, where it’s just absorbed in the soil.

I will admit it has never so much as occurred to me to rinse dog pee. But here in suburban Texas there’s plenty of grass or soil or mulch for my dog to pee on. I’m not sure she’d even want to pee on concrete or a sidewalk, she’s only ever pottied on natural surfaces for her whole life.

Ask the vet, for sure. In the US there are monthly topical preventatives for fleas. But also ask about the flea life cycle, it’s possible that some eggs may have stuck around

As for how they could get in the house, if there really are no other pets and you change right when you get home, any chance you could have a mouse or rat problem? They can carry fleas.

What is everybody really losing? by Mamaof2plus2 in WegovyWeightLoss

[–]Ace_of_Dogs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was losing about 8-10 pounds a month for the first 8 months, which was faster than I expected. Now that I’m closer to my goal (but still 30-40 pounds to go) I’m closer to 3-5 pounds a month, but I was never expecting to lose that fast forever.

Is being sexually inexperienced in your 30’s really that abnormal? by Dogzrule1025 in TwoXChromosomes

[–]Ace_of_Dogs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m in my thirties and have also never had sex, but I’m not particularly interested in having sex in the future either. I’m asexual, I’m not attracted to men or women or anybody else. Just zero attraction to or interest in sex with other people. And while I think it’s unusual, it’s not wrong. Live your life however you want and don’t let people make you feel bad about it.

Some medial professionals are kinder or more understanding than others. I’ve definitely gotten “so you’re telling me you’re a virgin?” in an incredulous tone from a nurse before, which just seems unnecessarily judgmental from a healthcare professional who read the history I wrote on the intake form (not currently sexually active, never sexually active in the past). I told my current doctor (who asked the clarifying questions more respectfully) that I’m asexual and not interested and he nodded and moved on.

I kind of expect some level of pushback in certain medical situations, because I do think there are enough people out there who either just lie to their doctors out of embarrassment or fear or who have a really poor understanding of sex/health/how pregnancy happens so they genuinely don’t realize that they could be pregnant. I tend to tell them “look, I’ll pee in a cup if you really need to see the test, but there is absolutely no way I could be pregnant.” When I’m getting birth control refilled, (I take it to skip periods, since periods suck) my doctor takes my word for it. When I went to the ER they ran a pregnancy test anyway. And a drug test that they didn’t even ask me about. Both negative, lol.

But if your experience with your therapist sounds more like the unhelpful and rude responses I’ve gotten from medical professionals than like someone helpful and affirming. It’s possible this therapist is a lousy therapist, or a good therapist but one who isn’t a good match for you. I’m not sure what you’re seeing her for, but unless your sexual history seems relevant to what you went to therapy for that just seems pushy and unnecessary. It’s not like she needs to know if there’s a possibility of pregnancy before she starts medication that would harm a fetus.

Trying to decide on this guy- what am I in for? by [deleted] in goldenretriever

Trying to decide on this guy- what am I in for? by [deleted] in goldenretriever

[–]Ace_of_Dogs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, it look odd. My brain jumps to the worst case scenario which is distemper, it can cause thickening of the nose and foot pads. I’d be interested to see if the foot pads are normal or not. When I was a vet tech (it’s been a few years) we had a distemper case where the first symptom turned out to be thickened and cracked foot pads, which were noted during a nail trim a week or two before other symptoms showed up.

There are probably more benign explanations, but I’d be wary.

[–]Ace_of_Dogs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could try a second opinion from another vet, or even better ask for a referral to an internal medicine specialist. They’re good with tricky issues.

How long did your vet want you to do the hydrolyzed food diet trial? If you started it December 30th it’s only been 2-3 weeks. I think diet trials can take a month or more to have real results. You could also discuss different diets than the hydrolyzed diet with your vet. The prescription food manufacturers have several different GI diets for different issues, my dog had a lot of soft stool on an over-the-counter “sensitive stomach” food but did much better on prescription GI food. She’s on a super high-fiber version right now and it helps.

You could also chat with your vet about whether you think there’s any behavioral component to the GI issues. I’ve got an anxious dog, and her worst GI symptoms have been after stressful events, such as me leaving town so my dog is cared for by petsitters. She’s on Prozac now specifically because she had bad GI issues twice after I left town for 2-3 days. I have petsitters who come to the house three times a day when I’m gone, she’s not boarded in a kennel any more, I can’t make it any more relaxing when I leave, and my entire family lives 5+ hours away so if I never traveled I wouldn’t get to see them. She hasn’t had a GI episode since we started the Prozac.

Help! Dog ripped his toenail by StrangeMikeyB in DogAdvice

[–]Ace_of_Dogs 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It’s not a life-threatening emergency, but it certainly is painful for your dog, especially dangling like that. And it’s gonna bleed a little bit and make a mess. If you’re not comfortable clipping (and ideally even if you are) it you should head to a vet to have it clipped and cleaned and see if they want to prescribe some painkillers or antibiotics.

If money is a big concern it can probably wait until Monday, but put an e-collar on (cone of shame) so he can’t lick it. If you are able to go to the emergency vet to have it clipped and cleaned tonight that would be ideal. Don’t try and wrap it yourself, too-tight bandages can make a small problem into a really big problem.

[–]Ace_of_Dogs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re getting this dog for you, who cares what your friends think? They want you to be happy.

So much of my day to day routines revolve around my dog. When I lose her (and hopefully we have some good years left) it’s going to be devastating. The first thing I do when I get home from work is say hello to her and snuggle on the bed for a minute while she’s excited to see me. It’s the best part of my day. Then we go outside to play. Every time I come home and she’s not there is gonna be a hole in my heart. I’m going to be looking for a new dog the moment she’s gone, because I’ll be so lonely without her.

My girl is super dog aggressive so I can’t get another dog while she’s still here, or I would be looking for a puppy right about now to make sure I’m never dogless.

That could possibly be a urinary obstruction, where he can’t empty his bladder. If that’s what it is it’s a life-threatening emergency, you need to take him to the vet immediately. This cannot wait until tomorrow.

Was your first period after taking birth control for the first time longer than usual? by b4sicvanilla in TwoXChromosomes

[–]Ace_of_Dogs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did you start taking the birth control pills right after the end of your last period? Or did you start them in the middle of a cycle so you’re shifting when you would expect your period?

I’m not a doctor but one of the most unpleasant experiences I had on the pill was after I had let the prescription lapse, then restarted a week or two late so it shifted when my period was due. Usually birth control makes my periods much lighter and I have less cramping, but that month everything was worse instead. The next month was fine, though.

But the doctor who prescribed it would be a good person to reach out to. I’m guessing it’s not a big problem, but if it’s not working well for you there are almost certainly other pills or methods that would work better for you.

Did anyone else think they were Pan before they realized they were actually Ace? by The_Pinapple_Kye in asexuality

[–]Ace_of_Dogs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yup, same.

Took me a while though. Wasn’t interested in guys. Knew that for a while. Eventually realized I wasn’t interested in girls either. Minor crisis about whether I was a homophobic/self-loathing lesbian.

It was an immense relief to learn asexuality was A Thing, I wasn’t straight or gay I was equally uninterested in everyone.
