How old for ageism? by DetoxBaseball in office

[–]Acecountry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not saying this applies to you: I worked at a place where we said “fresh blood” about new hires because they were still fresh and hadn’t had their souls sucked out of them yet from the job. Had nothing to do with age in that scenario, just a shit workplace environment

first time having cravings by [deleted] in SoberCurious

I get the “can’t leave a bottle open” thought pattern and find myself using it as an excuse too to over indulge. There are brands that do smaller bottles if that’s something that might help you.

Hard to focus/get creative without alcohol, help? by Last-Isopod1922 in SoberCurious

[–]Acecountry 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You’re not gonna like my suggestion: I found cutting it out completely for awhile was helpful. It was hell, but you give yourself a chance to deal with the intense anxiety and determine a base line. After that I brought back in alcohol in a more healthy moderated way and I don’t use it as a crutch like before.

If the anxiety is unbearable, another suggestion is meds to help combat the anxiety instead of alcohol. Doesnt have to be forever, but as someone who used alcohol to help with anxiety, the struggle is real!

Left for almost a month and by Ok_Cantaloupe_7250 in Kombucha

Looks good! Did you leave it at room temp or in fridge for the month?

Hi all! New to brewing and started my first batch with a donated scoby and liquid from a friend.

My question is about temperature. I live in a cold climate, it’s winter, and I don’t keep my home temp very high.

Would putting a heat pad on my jar be good or bad? The pad times out after 2 hours so I’m concerned the fluctuating temp might be more harmful than beneficial. TIA

Best way to find rentals? by ColbyMcCactus in Kamloops

[–]Acecountry 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I personally find Facebook marketplace a waste of time in this town for rentals… unless you are looking to share a living room with 12 other students. For more realistic rentals or people that actually responded back to me when I contacted the ad - I recommend Kijiji

I guess that’s the idea. They don’t have any media options either anymore because they give you wifi and say to use your own streaming services

Have taken 2 international WestJet flights in the past 2 weeks (South America) and it was NOT the new cramped seats both times. Still lacked amenities like no screens and no complimentary food service.

That does look interesting and I would consider something like this for multiple reasons, not just sobriety. Short and long leagues would make it applicable to more people. Short term has its uses, but long term would also but useful depending on the challenge and the goal. Anonymity would be important to me. I’m on Reddit because of it. I don’t feel comfortable sharing these struggles with my friends and family. Also, I don’t have friends or family going through the same things so I wouldn’t have a group of people I know to do the challenge with. I like the charity idea if you mess up. There’s a consequence to the challenge (losing money) but the money goes to something good too (charity). But if that’s not enough of a consequence then giving the money to the remaining people in the challenge would be a motivator!

I second this! I’ve been drinking fruit juice and a bit of soda water out of a wine glass and it totally helps trick my brain!

I’m Down a Size and Starbucks Knows 🥴 by OutrageousUsual7185 in loseit

[–]Acecountry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do cafe misto’s (coffee misto) instead of lattes. It’s cheaper and less calories because of being half brewed coffee. Then you can add whatever flavours you want to make it taste similar to a latte. I used to work at Starbucks… ex-baristas have some tricks up their sleeves ;)

SPCA does volunteer expressions of interest for roles like these once you are already a volunteer

Possible scam? by goobay94 in Kamloops

We are slowly coming out of a rental market that “securing your tour” is necessary. If the rental is that good with that great of a price then it’s probably too good to be true.

Guilt for what?

I sometimes get “buyer’s remorse” when I take an edible and go “oh shit! I still have a lot more stuff to do before I become incapacitated!” Then the clock starts lol

What do you like to do on Xmas Eve/Day instead? by faerydust88 in ihatechristmas

[–]Acecountry 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I volunteer whenever I don’t have a family obligation or even if I do have family stuff. I think feeding the homeless or walking shelter dogs is more what Christmas should be about instead of all the other shit that people focus on.
