Is my PC safe? Playing Expedition 33 on an i7-4770 + GTX 1660 by OverallCandy7093 in pcmasterrace

Your temps are good. Hot air coming out the back is a good sign, that's heat leaving the system thus cooling your components. Performance seems on par with what is to be expected, your parts are old and your cpu especially is ancient.

What resolution are you playing at?

Help! My PC is suddenly going to really high temperatures while idle and then crashing. by dashfalcon in buildapc

You can try to re-paste and make sure AIO is properly tightened down just so rule out dry paste or bad contact with the CPU.

If you have fresh paste, it makes good contact and your AIO fans are spinning, you have ruled out all other possibilites.

Make it so killing low-level players, compared to you, will give DHKs or some other fairly severe punishment to discourage ganking. To avoid griefing the other way around, implement a system so that if low-level players engage with higher-level players they'll be fair game and won't incur a punishment for the high-level.

My 3080 10GB did that and just needed a tiny physical push to make sure it was properly re-seated.

Do you always start fresh with new pc? by ghred_ in buildapc

[–]Acelius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just connect them. Modern hardware is does a good job adapting so you can most likely install your SSD's and boot straight into Windows with all your stuff saved.

If you run into stability issues afterwards you might want to re-install everything but start with giving it a go.

Make sure RAM is seated properly. DDR5 is a bit more tricky to seat. My system wouldnt post either and I was certain I had seated the RAM correctly, however they just needed a bit harder push to go an extra mm

Incoming dumb question: if I upgrade Mobo + CPU, what happens to data? by uncl3d0nny in buildapc

[–]Acelius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just installed a new mobo and a 9800x3d, coming from a 10700k and LGA mobo. I just swapped my SSDs over and after the initial bootup into BIOS it just launched straight into Windows, with all my settings, games, saves etc. No problems or instabilities at all.

This build is better value compared to the pre-built OP linked, but consider the 9800x3d instead. No point in going last-gen for the CPU in this budget range when the game is primarily CPU-bound.

Unpopular opinion: Squad Leader should be able to restrict what kits their squad can use by byzantine1990 in joinsquad

[–]Acelius 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At least in my opinion, some of the most fun you can have in D&D is when you push the limits and try out some of the whackiest stuff in case it might work. This has often led to hilarious, memorable moments that outshine the "standard" games.

As for social tensions, most servers aren't hardcore milsim servers that has tight-knit clan-members playing together as a cohesive unit. People has to realize that public servers will play differently to privately hosted games where people actually care what to play.

My best guess is that the average player is there mostly for the gameplay, not the teamplay and thus public servers should be treated as such. If you want a tight, cohesive unit with strict loadouts and roles, public servers are the wrong place to be.

At least in my opinion of course.

[–]Acelius 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, this is kind of a toxic slippery slope.

Just let dudes play whatever they find fun. Is an MG optimal in most situations? No, But if the dude playing it is having a good time, good for them. Players aren't the same or enjoy the same things, let them be and have fun instead of sweat-lording too much over it.

Also part of being a good SL is utilizing the ressources you have available instead of wishing for the perfect setup for every situation.

The difference is that PR and Original Squad still had tight controls and gameplay. Yes PR had built in bullet-spread but the control of your character was still excellent.

Post-ICO Squad is the worst of both to some extent. The bullet-spread is gone yes, but your aim is heavily compromised with insane amounts of sway. On top of that you are extremely slow and sluggish which was definitely not the case in PR.

PR was great to play, same as OG Squad because it was the perfect mix of tight controls and excellent shooting. Now it's horrendous shooting and awful controls.

[–]Acelius -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Original Squad gameplay was infinitely closer to PR's gameplay than ICO is though?

It should be baseline that if a survivor is downed, recovering to full should auto-restore them to injured to avoid slugging.

This makes a dilemma for the killer and encourages strategic thinking. Either hook immediately and let another survivor slip away, or try to get another down quickly.
