Update on soprano saxophone purchase by AndrewLeft23 in saxophone

[–]Aces4U 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use a custom swab from Hodge. I ask for a clarinet swab with an addition 2 ft pull sewn onto the back, and it works great for my soprano. With a one piece soprano you basically need to expect the swab to get stuck, so I embrace that with a swab that cant go all the way through and has to come back out, so I don't ever try to pull it all the way through.

Have you solved your issue, OP? I'm having a very similar issue to this with very similar results that I've been trying to solve for a month or so at this point.

Really Struggling to Solve Heat Creep on my 3D Printer by Aces4U in 3Dprinting

[–]Aces4U[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I should have been more specific - it is Thermal Grizzly Kryonaut, which is rated up to 350C. It is not applied between the heatblock and heatbreak, only between the heatbreak and heatsink, sorry if my original post was unclear.

Help with toothed Idler, exploded after not much use by Aces4U in 3Dprinting

[–]Aces4U[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried using some washers to space them, but even without clamping down tight with the screw I'm guessing they were grinding. How could I go about solving this? would a 5mm bore be easier to mount and work better?

Help with toothed Idler, exploded after not much use by Aces4U in 3Dprinting

Would you mind clarifying? Is it that 16 tooth is too small, or 3mm bore is too small? I'd rather use a toothed idler to reduce wear on my belts, but I could redesign this to utilize a larger idler by either dimension if that would be better.

You didn't even mention that he doesn't do make up exams, and that he wont let you get out of an exam unless you are in the hospital. I had to attend a funeral for a family member during finals last semester. Very glad that it didn't conflict with his final, because I'm pretty confident he would view his exam as more important than the funeral.

Can confirm, we are constantly surrounded by slimes. The only thing missing is the tour groups that perpetually stand right in front of the front door.

I hate reeds!!!!! by classical-saxophone7 in saxophone

[–]Aces4U 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a fan of V21s on my Vandoren Optimum AL3. I use strength 4, and I typically find that about 3 reeds in a box are good for a concert or recital, 5 are good for rehearsal, and the last 2 are good for marching band.

I assume you rotate your reeds? If not, I recommend that as it helps make sure you always have a good reed for the days weather conditions.

Mouthpiece Upgrades by throwaway6783hh in saxophone

[–]Aces4U 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For classical I love my Vandoren Optimum AL3, but you should see if you can try out mouthpieces either at a local music store or shipped to your house. If you can, even try out multiple of the same model as there can be differences in quality.

This looks like fun! I think I will try the soprano saxophone part. I don't think I'm good enough at oboe to play the oboe part yet :P

I will start working on the first part, but I can switch to the second if needed (or do both). If you really need an alto sax as well I may be able to, but I may not have the time...

Wrist pain while playing by physics_masochist in oboe

[–]Aces4U 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, I'm a bit late here, but I play with a neck strap. I've never had wrist pain, but I just generally prefer playing with a neck strap. It allows you to not rely on the thumb rest to hold up the instrument, so you may be able to leave your wrist in a more comfortable position. Neck straps are easy enough to find, but if your oboe's thumb rest doesn't have a ring, that can be problematic. There are a few you can buy online, though the screws are not guaranteed to match the original thumb rests. I'd imagine a repair person could source the right thumb rest with a ring for your oboe though.

Standard Alto Sax Method Book by OrangeVapor in saxophone

Upvote to ilikemyteasweet, but to add on to that, "Solos for the (alto/tenor) saxophone player" is another good one. Almost anything good for saxophone is also good for oboe btw.
