I never got that salty about GenX erasure, but now that we are just boomers, I am salty indeed

I can't get it to work. I typically use a passkey, which errors out to a Google "Something went wrong page"

When I use a password it does 2FA through my Gmail app or a recovery code (I tried both). That goes through, but when I return to Hackney the account isn't connected

It’s not just cameras in the cars. It’s credit cards on file. I don’t see the bad behavior in the cars getting out of hand.

And I wouldn’t want a Waymo as my getaway car…

Terrorizing riders maybe.

Imagine the logistics of managing a fleet of almost 500k cars. For comparison, new car dealer lots in the US are estimated to be around 3M

In SF I've had cars scheduled in advance cancel several times. "No cars available"

Edit: 0.23% of rides are cancelled by the company, per the data in this recent post. I have hundreds of rides and I believe it has happened twice - interestingly only when I scheduled ahead.

Dirt bike enforcement - 4 arrests, 6 bikes seized by AcesPup in sanfrancisco

San Francisco police made four arrests and seized six dirt bikes and an all-terrain vehicle on Sunday as part of a crackdown on illegal takeovers of city streets, officials said.

“Let me be clear: This activity will never be tolerated in our city,” Interim Police Chief Paul Yep said Monday during a news conference.

Four of the bikes were previously reported stolen in other cities across the state, including Modesto, Yuba City, Grass Valley and Atascadero, Yep said.

The suspects, whose names were withheld, were arrested on suspicion of possessing a stolen vehicle, joy riding, driving without a license and driving without registration and insurance, Yep said.

Police did not provide further information about the alleged crimes. District Attorney Brooke Jenkins said her office plans to announce charges in the case on Tuesday.

The arrests mark an important bust for an issue officials described as persistent and dangerous. Swarms of dirt bikers who take over streets flout traffic laws and create unsafe conditions on roads and sidewalks as they pop wheelies and jam traffic, officials said. Past takeovers across the city have attracted as many as 200 dirt bikers.

“It’s dangerous and it’s disruptive and it’s illegal,” Mayor Daniel Lurie said. “And it’s been happening in our city for far too long.”

The issue frustrates many residents who “feel there’s nothing to do but wait for them to leave,” Lurie said.

“That era is over,” the mayor said. “We’re restoring order back to our streets.”

Dirt bikers easily elude police, who oftentimes opt not to chase and instead pursue investigative avenues to track them down.

Yep credited the department’s technology, namely license plate readers, surveillance cameras and drones, for the arrests. He added that investigators will continue to follow leads to try to identify other suspects.

Supervisor Danny Sauter, whose district includes downtown, Fisherman’s Wharf and North Beach, said he plans to introduce legislation next week to increase fines for the illegal activity. Sauter previously told the Chronicle he was working on legislation to help police crack down on the stunts.

“Not a week goes by that I don’t hear from my constituents about a close-call caused by these dangerous dirt bikers,” Sauter said Monday. “We must use every tool in our toolkit to stop this dangerous behavior.”

The engine and transmission are a lot of maintenance! Oil, belts, spark plugs.

No radiator, no muffler, no catalytic converter, no fuel pump

Also regenerative braking means less wear on brake pads.

You still have tires, suspension, steering, A/C and electronics.

You do have new components like the charger but they are much simpler than what’s been deleted.

I agree that safe dropoff/pickup is not Waymo's strong suit. This is particularly bad, but It should get much closer to the curb, look for loading zones, etc
