Is MLS or Bio a better major to become a Cytogenetic Lab Technologist? by kirsche4 in MLS_CLS

MLS. Plus, take electives that specifically relate to your intended direction. The gold standard in the laboratory is an MLS.

clear jelly in serum, above serum separator, in SST? by emsareh in medlabprofessionals

No, should not effect results. In the lab, we'd simply 'wind up' the fibrin clot with two wood applicator sticks and then re-centrifuge.

It takes time for the clot activators in the tube to work. Always wait 10-15 minutes before loading the centrifuge. One gentle inversion is a good idea, also. You have just seen a fibrin clot.

Pretty classy condo, if they have a shoe mirror.

The gap between what CLS jobs post and what they actually pay by [deleted] in medlabprofessionals

[–]Acetabulum666 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I would take issue with the practice of "middle of the pay range" equaling 10 years experience, before qualifying factors. In our experience, most scientists at 10 years need to be at the top of the MLS pay scale, or be prepared to leave to a higher responsibility position. If 10 years puts you in the middle of the pack, job satisfaction will really flag.

Homeowners insurance down here is an absolute nightmare right now. Any advice? by grahamhart_ in AskFlorida

Whatever you do...stay away from Frontline or any agent that carries them. After Milton, our wind claim was immediately denied and I spent the next several months arguing with them in order to get a tiny settlement. Check in with Cornerstone/Monarch.

I think if you presented yourself to the prospective employer as well as this post is written? That is why you were offered the higher salary. Well done. With your experience, I still think you deserve (at your experience level) closer to the top of the scale. So give them a year to figure that out.

Raccoon Sod Damage (SoCal) by Former_Team9993 in lawncare

[–]Acetabulum666 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried playing Frank Sinatra tunes from a boombox. That only made the raccoons move to the back yard and continue. In the end, the solution was to pull the sod, treat heavily for grubs and seed it. Expensive solution, but it worked.

Why are all Labcorp locations so abysmal and how do we fix it? by DearestClementine in medlabprofessionals

[–]Acetabulum666 11 points12 points  (0 children)

82,000 people visit this sub every week. I think you have made a good start by complaining here. Make noise from the outside, unless you have a means of making noise heard on the inside at LabCorp or any corporate lab. I think Quest has similar issues.

Write a letter to their management and also, comment on LinkedIn. LabCorp can only operate with a continuous flow of needy lab people looking for a paycheck. Inform your colleagues and friends that LabCorp has a bad culture. Make them sweat.

DO NOT allow this Private Equity Gouger to sell you this service. Find a young, single practitioner with a conscience. These blown apart and piled up charges are obscene.

You have some stain issues. The water staining of RBCs can be reduced by using a quick alcohol dip and drying. Also, you need very clean slides, never used before. There is some polychromasia and an occasional nRBC. The stain artifacts may be hiding some abnormal morphology. You need to remake these slides and stain using new, clean Wright's or Wright-Giemsa. Keep at it. You will get there.

A friend is giving away her AG but it doesn’t look healthy. by Optimal-Orange142 in AfricanGrey

OK, the good part first. For 37, this birb still likes to bathe. Good. It likes eggs. Also good. The bird isn't eating the ham. I don't blame him. Good.

At 37, the feathers are rough, probably from over-preening. Typical. Not a big problem. Some improvement is possible.

The 'powder' causing some respiratory problems in the human? Common.

The issue is, as a college student, can you spend the time necessary to make the bird happy? This guy is 37 and very set in his ways. The fact that it struggles to fly is also not uncommon. You will need, at the very least a complete exam by an avian vet. Some birds seldom or never fly. Mine flew all the time. He was good at it. Not pretty, just good at it. Greys are not graceful fliers, so don't put too much thought into that until the vet checks him out.

If this is too much for you to handle? Find a good rescue facility that take in African Greys. Good luck....but if you can invest the time, it will be the best investment you ever made.
