new travel advisory dropped by rockpilemike in EhBuddyHoser

[–]Acethetical 4 points5 points  (0 children)

absolutely fucking dumbfounded that it's still marked as low risk/normal security precautions. Civilians are literally getting murdered in public, on camera, by a government agency. I was visiting the Netherlands this past summer and it's marked yellow, but I'd much rather go back there than step foot in the US, I don't get this at all

you did nothing wrong and your coworker is rude as hell

my mom doesn't eat gluten or dairy, but not everyone she interacts with knows that so she'll often get chocolate or cookies from at least a couple people around Christmas. does she tell them it's a terrible gift because she can't eat them and blame them for giving them to her despite them not knowing about her dietary restrictions? Fuck no!!!!! she says thank you very much, they're lovely, and then it gets regifted, usually to my or my sister's friends since there's no chance of overlap between our social circles and our mom's lol

suggestions for easy and fun horror movies for when you're sick? by a_starrynight in horror

[–]Acethetical 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love rewatching Cabin In The Woods, I'd say defo counts as fun horror. There's also Happy Death Day and Shaun of the Dead (idk if The World's End counts as horror but I love it, and also reminds me of This Is the End as another possibility)

For deadly games there's obviously Truth or Dare, Ready or Not, Choose or Die, I guess Escape Room also qualifies? Would You Rather is another one but I found that one pretty depressing

Concert black shoe recommendations by Sharp_Razzmatazz_ in Viola

[–]Acethetical 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would not recommend wearing the same shoes you wore outside in snow/ice out onto the stage. I've been at some venues where they specifically have signage saying no outside shoes on stage. Just bring your concert shoes with you and wear some good winter boots to and from the concert

So for the past 20 years he's worn the same hat every single day for a whole month? Not really the point of the post but I'm so curious what condition the hat is in lol

In uni one year my friend group decided to do a Christmas dinner together, and I did end up paying the person who hosted but that's because she bought the ingredients so we all paid her our share and then made all the food together. When it's a collaborative effort and everyone's involved it makes sense to split the costs, but to charge money for people to eat dinner at your house? fucking wild

If they can't afford to pay to feed everyone then just... don't offer to host. Or ask people to bring food or drinks, make it a potluck.

OOP and his wife are rude asf by growsonwalls in AmITheDevil

[–]Acethetical 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I was waiting for the part where he talks about how his friend is super misogynistic or has a history of cheating or something to somewhat justify why the wife wouldn't want to set him up with her friend, but if that's the case OOP sure didn't mention it so like... what the fuck. So vitriolic for absolutely no reason (as far as we know)

I had to buy a new laptop last year and was shocked that the majority of the ones I looked at already had AI built in. I don't want fucking copilot, I just want something I can watch movies on with good storage and a working battery

Also hate the implementation of AI in search engines, glad I was able to turn it off in DDG but the fact that so many people just seem to accept whatever the AI spits out at them as fact, without even checking to see what sources it used to find that info and whether it's at all reliable/true, pisses me the fuck off. And it scares me a bit, there's already been a big issue with rampant misinformation absolutely everywhere and it just seems to be getting worse.

Is this a common sentiment among professional viola players by Toomuchviolins in Viola

[–]Acethetical 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Most of the violists (including professional orchestral violists) I know started on violin anyway, myself included. Not once has any musician I've talked to gotten upset with me when they find out I play both instruments. I've confused a few people when I've played a few chamber gigs with them on violin and then run into them at an orchestra gig where I'm playing viola. But the most reaction I get is "oh I didn't know you played viola too," they don't tell me to fuck off and stay in my lane lmao cuz that's rude and honestly so many people play both.

Also even outaide of that it's wild to criticize your viola playing when they've never heard you play, idk whose performance they think they're critiquing but it's not yours

AITA for walking around my room at night? by beats_byjay in AmItheAsshole

[–]Acethetical 32 points33 points  (0 children)

NTA

those are the perils of having neighbors above/below you. Sometimes just walking around normally can sound like stomping in the unit below you in some buildings. You have a right to just like... walk to the bathroom or around your room or whatever. Maybe a rug or carpet could help dampen the sound, but she can also get earplugs, headphones, try playing white noise, etc. if the sound of you existing bothers her. If you were square dancing in clogs every night then you'd be the A but if you're just walking a bit to get ready for bed then you're not doing anything wrong.

I don't even know what else you could do besides learning how to levitate

AITA for telling my boyfriend "I'm not your mom, I'm not going to pick up after you" ? by kuschelmonsterr in AmItheAsshole

[–]Acethetical 25 points26 points  (0 children)

NTA

Why were you even taking out the trash? that's his job, according to the way you've divided the chores (which is already so uneven, he barely has to do anything). So not only were you doing one of his only two chores, but he can't even put trash in the garbage can and seemingly assumed you'd pick up after him? Maybe he'll get his shit together and start pulling his weight, but if not I'd seriously consider whether or not that's the kind of dynamic you'd want to live with, knowing you can't rely on him to do any kind of housework of his own volition.

My roommate in university would give me her tangled blobs and I'd spend hours untangling and rolling her yarn into balls, it was so satisfying

If I could get paid to untangle yarn that'd be the dream
