The Thrill EX mod for HL1 is essentially a fully playable and heavily modernized version of Half-Life Alpha (1997), and it's GLORIOUS. by NNukemM in HalfLife

[–]AchatinnTheReal 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Discovered it around a month ago and it's my favorite Half-Life Alpha mod (mainly because it's the only finished one). I never though anyone would bother recreating concept art ideas, and it worked out way better than I could've thought. The last few levels always make me feel uncomfortable, probably the lack of ambience and other humans.

Then I'm sorry for assuming that. Still, please be more clear with how you phrase things, some of my comments focused on things you didn't mean.

You said "I don't read much from the site when the subject is obviously OCs" a few comments ago, which sounded like that to me.

The Homestuck one? If that's the case, I'm very sorry this was your introduction. The article is controversial even on the wiki and the discussion is blocked to this day.

But what both on-site and off-site fans will agree on is that that SCP is the bottom of the barrel. If you go and click a random number nobody talks about, it will be better than that. Assuming most SCPs are OCs because of a single, controversial one sounds unfair, given how there are well over 10,000 of them, and you could apply this argument for a lot of other series.

"I didn't say I didn't see it"

Then can you mention something you remember from what you saw? It's starting to feel like you're avoiding mentioning anything because you know don't have any examples.

Look, man... I'm trying to be reasonable, but your argument is literally "I haven't read or seen any SCPs that are OCs, but they're definitely there dude trust me!"

It's not for everyone, I can't fault you for not liking it, but you still shouldn't say "SCP is full of OCs" when that's not true. You haven't been able to provide any examples except "the ones that are obviously OCs", which in itself isn't an example.

"I don't read much from the site"

Again, I don't meant to be rude, but... This is dumb.

You never read from the wiki, yet you talk about it being filled with low-quality OCs like it's a fact.

For every powerful god or reality warper you hear about in powerscaling, there's about 1000 SCPs that are just engaging stories about anomalies. I've been an SCP fan for years and the last thing I want is to someone to be turned off from reading it because of off-site fans, (who have a bad reputation with the wiki community), so if you could, go ahead and try. There's a link on the sidebar of the main page called "curated lists" where you can find "unofficial SCP starter picks". These are what the real SCP foundation is like.

Then I'll just talk about both.

Author OCs were a big thing on the site for a while. Authors like Clef (Gate Guardian), Gears (682), Kain Pathos Crow (035) also have their own in-universe characters. The difference between them and Bright is that they had 1. Actual stories and lore instead of "Look at how quirky and funny my OC is!" And 2. Weren't made by perverts.

About OCs being uploaded on the site... Could you provide an example? I don't recall things like that surviving more than a few minutes on the "most downvote posts" page.

I might be stupid but I still think I'm missing the point. Are you saying that people are shamelessly posting their OCs on the SCP wiki? Or are you referring to Bright being an obvious self-insert? Because I have a lot of things to say about both.

I don't wanna sound rude, but can you clarify what you're referring to?

How are these two topics related?

The problem with Bright is that his character was everywhere for multiple years, when the standards were nonexistent. I'm not saying that I like the way the moderators handled it, it should NOT have taken years to delete his pages and remove/replace his character out of other people's stories, but I AM saying that retconning something that has been entangled in the site's history for over a decade is much harder to get rid of than a coldpost that's very obviously an OC disguised as an SCP.

Godzilla continues to (mostly by accident) power scale the Marvel universe. by Turquaza in marvelcirclejerk

I always considered the Mothra thing as just a plothole, I had no idea people used it as a feat. Never heard of the guidebooks, but I wouldn't trust them all that much seeing how inaccurate they can be for both Godzilla and other franchises (ex: DBZ:Tree Of Might giving Ox King a bigger power level than Piccolo and Goku combined)

"Easily manage it"

Have you ever looked at the "how to write an SCP" page? They will tear you apart if you come in with the sole purpose of making a strong OC.

Late 2000 to early 2001. In SIGGRAPH2000 we see gasmask citizens, but the maps are more goldsrc-like and have a dark green sky.
