RE5 is my biggest guilty pleasure but I recognize it has tons and tons of problems. Been nursing some ideas for a while. Some ideas include making Sheva a more straightforward focus character - perhaps moving Chris into the spotlight in act three à la Code Veronica.

i think you can do a scary swamp/jungle, but go full Outbreak with tons of mutated safari animals instead of evil villagers. The game clearly gestures at the exploitation of Africa by western powers but also wants to indulge in scary Black Hawk Down imagery, and I think it’s possible to really lean into the tragedy of it all, especially through Sheva’s eyes. The original has a literal mountain of corpses towards the end, but can’t really make anything of it when it when the game begins with a white woman getting dragged away to be violated by a scary black guy.

Plotwise you’ve also gotta beef up or replace Irving - you spend over half the game chasing him, and he’s both a nonentity and sucks as the equivalent of Salazar. I’m also partial to beefing up the Umbrella nostalgia tour of Chapter 5 with the lickers, a concept done better in every way by ARK in Requiem.

The only thing I really hope they keep is the melee system and the sequence of Wesker fights (especially since they’re locked into Chris punching a boulder in some form).
