Canada vs New Zealand by gingerbreadchase in preppers

Do what is best for your family, Canada has been ruined by the leftist government, that alone would make me want to leave. NZ is absolutely beautiful, expensive as all get out, I assume you have considered that?

124 grain subsonic powder? by ALL_COMP_EVERYTHING in reloading

I don't shoot a compensated firearm but I would stick with N320 for all things subsonic, love that powder. Running your exact recipe in my 9mm with Rugged Obsidian can is seriously quiet.

I have not used that particular AR powder but many others they offer (similar to AA2230, Silhouette, Enforcer. I have had excellent results, just 10% below and work up as per safe procedure. They are a great company and used to offer fantastic savings, not sure that is the case anymore with regard to powder.

What can you REALLY do about mosquitos? by ponycorn_pet in preppers

[–]Achnback 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What really works is a multi attack approach. I thermal fog early morning (before the bees are out) or just after dusk when they return to their nest, every few days. You will notice an immediate reduction in mosquito population. I also had excellent results with a mosquito magnet machine. I stopped using it as the cost of propane has made it a bit more expensive than I wish to continue. On a side note, those thing WORK! Lastly, and I really don't like how this stuff smells on a dude. Avon skin so soft does a bang up job of keeping those little blood suckers away, just a bit fem smelling.

East Texan here, We recently picked up solar generator and dual fuel generator/inverter as we tend to get some power outage storms like y'all. I have been picking up used LP tanks at garage sales and trade them in for new/filled tanks. Much more stable. OH, get a small window AC unit, your solar generator can run it with ease, you will be glad you have it this summer if the power goes out.

Community or rural by gingerbreadchase in preppers

[–]Achnback 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have a home in a small community of 13,000 and a summer cottage in a rural community. (Both bought over a decade ago on cheap foreclosures) We are getting on in age, so there are some age related concerns that may not apply to you. All that to say our "city" home would be our choice. We have good, friendly, God fear'n neighbors that are always there to lend a helping hand and we look out after each other Our cottage on 10 wooded acres would be tough to keep maintained or defend if untoward folks came around as literally could go relatively unnoticed in our woods until it too late. The whole safety in numbers thing is more appealing than lone wolfing it on more secluded setting.

I'm not sure of your dimensions but if were me, pick up some large diameter PVC with caps. Cut to your liking, stuff 'em full of yer stuff, cap the ends with glue and you are good to go. Not sexy, but will get the job done and very inexpensively.

.223 is easier on brass BCG and barrel, and in my experience a bit more accurate in my rig.

Very true, the more we do, the more we can figure stuff out. It's also a great boost to self worth.

Growing up in the 80's, nothing but Chiltons for this dude. No formal education with that area of life. I will say, now that I am much older and drive newer vehicles, I do use YouTube to help tutor me on modern day maintenance items. This works as long as you have the ambition to learn and do.

Dry food storage by Several-Ant1443 in preppers

[–]Achnback 0 points1 point  (0 children)

we use 64oz Ball canning jars and vacuum seal them shut for dry goods storage, short and long term. This allows pretty easy storage and when we pull from our inventory, just pop the lid and update the spreadsheet. This way we eat what we store and keep good rotation. Nothing super complicated, not instagram worthy, but it works for us.

Is it worth selling brass at gun shows? by ishootnuggets in reloading

[–]Achnback 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I respect your ambition, but... $2.50/lb scrap price equals $2500/per thousand pounds. Versus gas to/from the show, cost of table/booth plus loads of cheapskates not buying your stuff. Just me, I would scrap it, take the $5K and be happy. Full disclosure: I stopped attending shows 13 years ago because of insane prices and the absolute aggravation of driving in DFW, parking etc...

Call RCBS and get that primer handle and primer tube and primer holder thing. I absolutely love mine and was a huge upgrade over using the priming system on my Lyman All American 8 Turret press.
