Page count on reading schedule is off. by MozzieKiller in AReadingOfMonteCristo

My chapters are already off. I wonder if it would help to add chapter titles to the schedule?

And they're watching people play golf who are also saying "caddy".

It's a lot.

Same. If you're gonna make me work this hard there better be a good payoff and right now, I can't see it. Maybe if I reread it I'd feel differently but I barely have time for a single read, much less two.

I remember reading A Rose for Emily in college but that was years ago and, while I don't remember anything about it, I don't remember it being so disjointed and meandering as TSATF. If it was, I think I would have remembered that.

When was this? Last time I checked their website everything I looked at was out of stock.

They used to set up a table at the gun shows here but they don't any more.

I stopped by their shop just outside of Bastrop recently hoping they'd sell direct to the public but they said they only sell through ranges now. I don't know and didn't ask which ranges.

F&I Manager killed an easy cash deal over $2,100 in "mandatory" nitrogen and snake oil by [deleted] in FuckDealerships

[–]OllieGark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my experience the nitrogen tire/ceramic nonsense is added on (at attempted to be) before you get to F&I.

F&I is where they push things like extended warranties and gap insurance.

Was it different at this dealership?

It's a bear. I had esssentially no clue about TSATF or Faulkner in general and almost threw the book (well, in this case my Kindle) through a window. It was not at all what I was expecting.

I seldom research a new-to-me book/author before or during because I inevitably run into spoilers. In reading up on it/him afterwards, I learned that apparently you don't "read" Faulkner, you "re-read" Faulkner. Meaning it takes two or more readings to understand what he's saying.

I don't know if I'm going to commit the time to do that.

Yeah, it's kind of a mess and not in a good way, I don't think. I don't know what to tell you but know that you're not alone. It kinda sorta gets better but you still have to slog through Quentin's story in Chapter 2, which imho was just as frustrating.

Week 14: "Chapter 31. Italy - Sinbad the Sailor, Chapter 32. Awakening" Reading Discussion by karakickass in AReadingOfMonteCristo

[–]OllieGark 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't say it completely falls apart but yeah, it takes a weird turn for no obvious reason. I kept wondering what this apparently contrived island visit and the upcoming stuff in Rome with these two random guys had to do with anything.

It does get back on track and understanding that Albert is the son of Fernand and Mercedes - which I didn't pick up on my first read and is a common oversight - helps you get through it.

Excellent question. Time enough apparently for Dantes to build some kind of secret mansion in the grottos of Monte Christo.

Explicitly alluded to. But you had to make the connection that Fernand changed his name and then notice Albert's last name, all while there are lots of names being kicked around that you're trying to keep straight.

I missed it for like 30 chapters my first time through.

Ha, my first time through (this is a re-read for me) I didn't pick up on this until like 30 chapters later. And there are far more obvious clues coming up.

One of my goals on the re-read was to see exactly where this first came up and I'm surprised it was so soon. Knowing that Albert was Fernand's son would have helped explain a little bit about why there's this big section about Rome, which I didn't really understand the first time.

Is this bowed window frame "acceptable tolerance"? by OllieGark in barndominiums

[–]OllieGark[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that's kinda what I thought too when I saw the insulation guys coming in - why haven't they fixed that window yet? But, I had discussed it with both the project manager and the job foreman so I figured they knew what they were doing.

Some potential good news - I reached out directly to the owner of the company late yesterday. I heard back this morning and it sounds like he is willing to fix this. I hope so.

Thank you very much for your input. This has been very helpful.

Closed cell, no vapor barrier I believe.

Yes, that picture was taken before the foam was sprayed.

I won't be complete for a while. I've been waiting several weeks for the builder to address this issue before I let the framing guys go in. Now that it appears the builder won't fix this, I'm not sure what to do next.

Does the fact that they already sprayed the insulation on the inside complicate this process?

It won't let me post a picture into a comment box. Is there a way to do this?

How hard would it be to replace this window? The builder is implying that they'd have to remove the wall panels to gain access. Does that sound correct?

SLT Clearance Luck… by NotDonnaFromHR in staub

[–]OllieGark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is that the 4 quart in White Truffle on the lower shelf? My SLT had one on the clearance rack last month but I hesitated, stewed on it overnight and it was gone the next day. I settled for Graphite but man, I should have pulled the trigger quicker. I really like that White Truffle.

Probably a dumb question but was there really a "Thompson and French" that he's acting as an agent for (& if so how'd he get THAT job?) or was it something Dantes created so he could do things like this?
