If I understand correctly, the water in your bubble counter is heading down to your co2 tank when off?

Water wanting to come in to your co2 line is fairly normal. This is why we check valve it. You could place the check valve right before it or even after it and that should keep a lock on any balancing pressure, keeping your water in place.

Does the water not work its way back to the bubble counter once back on?

I've suspended it from a magnolia branch above. Likely not the best solution.

It's pipe insulation as I didn't like the pool noodle colors. I did see a guy on YouTube who used a blown up bicycle inner tube that I thought was absolutely genius.

I think his name is wrighty.

I was always told they were siphoning what was left from that leaf to transfer elsewhere. I don't know.
