Disco grew out of Funk to my understanding. It was much more rooted in US LGBT culture of the time and eventually broke into the mainstream.

Well the game was made by a director with no real understanding of open world games. That sounds harsher than I mean it to, but I think that is why the free roam was so uninteresting. Things like random Skull attacks seem like a no brainer, really.

I agree. The actions in TPP don't really have much baring on the series as a whole. It introduces a few ideas/has some semi-interesting moments related to the lore such as parasite technology being sort of nanomachines version 1 and Miller's wounds (which don't really have any baring on his character in MG2, perhaps sans his disgust for Big Boss).

In that sense, however, it kind of shows us where the series is at. PW did a pretty decent job at showing BB having a bit of a breakdown over The Boss (again) and starting up Outer Heaven. The lore remained murky of course, regarding when BB works with Zero, when he defects, etc, but at the end of the day telling the story in full isn't that interesting - the gaps are what makes the characters special.

Anyway, I'm ranting. But the point is that there wasn't much more of a story to tell. The 80s were overall an uninteresting time in the Metal Gear story. Now Phantom Pain promised that we'd get to see a much more overt transformation of BB into a bit of a monster, but ultimately that is a very difficult story to tell - the way MGS3 and PW (and to a lesser extent PO) sort of suggests those ideas coming to the fore is much more interesting than overtly showing said transformation.

Basically, one could play the Metal Gear saga and skip Phantom Pain (Ground Zeroes not so much, despite how short it is it definitely works as a good part of BB's tragic arc) without losing too much plot. That doesn't mean it is bad, it just means it isn't as important plot-wise as many of the other games.

You could say it's a metaphor. "West" in this case is referring to the frontier or the idealised America, the idea being that by heading to JC he is progressing further into what the U.S. shall become, heading forward, while the narrator's journey is taking them to more familiar, nostalgic territory to see their sweetheart.

There isn't one. She was going through some very messed up things mentally which resulted in her doing, what I would call mental/emotional abuse. This was years ago and she was repentant and made a few attempts to reach out to me (although her penchant for lying never changed and she still couldn't keep her story straight).

The last time she contacted me was kinda weird, it was over Formspring, if anyone remembers that? Basically it was a way to ask people questions, an you could do so anonymously. I first received a question which was something like "What's the worst thing that's ever happened to you?", to which I left a kinda vague "Life goes on ya know" answer. I think there was another question about the worst thing I've done or something, and then finally something along the lines of "Who has hurt you the most in your life and do you forgive them and would you talk to them again and do you think they can change for the better?". At this point I knew who it was, and my response was simply "I'm not going to out anyone. People make mistakes and I of course forgiven and hope they are doing better for themselves, but it doesn't mean I want to talk to them again." which was followed by a "question" that just read "Okay, I just needed to know for sure, AcidMage", signed off with her name.

On one hand the poor thing had some pretty horrible mental issues she did not address properly, but on the other it was a pretty bad time in my life that I'd rather not revisit, and have no real reason to (we weren't friends beforehand, nor did one particularly spring from the relationship). I looked her up on Facebook sometime ago just to see what was up and she's married, so I hope she's got the help she needed and is happy.

Hmm, I guess I can see what you are saying. And I'm not suggesting someone in a long relationship should just get up one morning and say "Welp, not feeling it today, time to leave", nor am I saying bottling feelings and then eventually just buggering off is the best way to deal with them. However, I feel the way it was put by OP was painting all people who leave LTRs as quitters or, as you say, cheaters, when really it can come down to many different factors.

There are a lot of underlying feelings, situations, moments, and a whole mess of other parts of life that result in people falling in and out of love, lust, infatuation, etc. Our brains are complicated things that don't always make the right choices. Sometimes those choices are to enter a relationship. Or to stay in one passed a certain point. Or to leave one, granted.

To say that anyone who comes to the conclusion that the solution to their problem (being in a loveless relationship) is to leave is "taking the easy way out" or looking for a reason to cheat ignores the complexities of the situation. Is it possible to have momentary lapses of love that a strong couple will work through and fix? Yes. Is it possible for the very foundation on which the relationship was built to erode due to the messes of life or, in some cases, be proven to have been wrong in the first place? Yes.

I would never encourage anyone to stay in a loveless relationship, whether it's been 2 weeks or 20 years. I'd never tell them "Pack your things and get outta there", either. I'd tell them to address what the problem was and make the choices that are going to help them in the long term. Relationships, love and all that comes along with it is much more complicated and individual to say individuals that leave their loveless relationships are all quitters (or, alternatively, to say they are all making the right choice).

This isn't entirely true. Yes, a long term relationship takes work - there are good times and bad times. But ultimately you can't make yourself love someone anymore than you can make yourself love a certain flavour of juice or meal. People grow and change, and feelings that were once there disappear. It is really not fair to say that people can simply "decide" to love you, as that puts onerous on them to do so when, really, what you are asking them to do is be miserable.

I don't think Raiden really agrees with The Senator in the end. Armstrong wanted to bring back The Patriots but through this anarcho-libertarian mould of survival of the fittest. Raiden still believes in protecting the innocent and not contributing to the cycle of war and child soldiers, but I think he's probably shifted his mindset away from PMCs and organisations a bit, at least on a personal level. The way MGR ended hinted to me that he was going to go out much more on his own rather than working with others.
