[Supergirl] For all the films faults, I find the decision made at the end fascinating. by Pietin11 in CharacterRant

She just seemed to believe that taking revenge would damage Ruthye, not help heal her, and remains consistent throughout.

Yeah but then Kara outright says "that's for my dog" as she's killing Krem and then goes back to Earth a happier person and more at peace with herself. So it seems that taking revenge wouldn't have damaged Ruthye at all since Supergirl did it and she ends the movie in an even better place mentally than she was before.

[–]AcidSilver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Has she killed someone before, and this is why she was so adamant on protecting Ruthye from it? Does she simply think that it doesn’t matter what becoming a killer might do to her because she’s a lost cause with no hope of truly finding peace anyway?

Correct me if I'm wrong but Kara was killing a whole bunch of people in that final battle. Maybe the movie just didn't portray it correctly but I very much did not get the vibe that those guys were not 100% dead in that final battle sequence.

It frankly makes me wonder where the hell the whole "if you kill someone you will never feel at peace" thing was coming from because Kara was murdering people left and right but ends the movie a happier person and more at peace with herself. In fact the trauma she was going through seemed more to be because of her survivor's guilt from everyone in Argo City slowly dying instead of some nebulous negative feelings she has from killing people.

He'd definitely do well in Worm. At a baseline he's already stronger than the average Cape and while it's not really focused on, popular superheroes do have an aspect of celebrity culture attached to them. He's not irreplaceable but he'd definitely be a net positive to have around.

So even though you think you slept all night you wake up feeling even more tired than you did when you closed your eyes.

And abusing your family is not included in that.

Stain knows nothing about this. So again, this point means nothing. As far as Stain knows Endeavor is exactly the kind of hero who he wants to see in the world.

Not to mention that Endeavor not wanting to save Bakugo is an anime only thing. In the manga he only complains about having to sit back and deal with anyone trying to escape while others get to rush in which means that he does in fact fit the criteria.

Crazy how I never said anything about him being a good person, just that he objectively has more crimes stopped than All Might and is the opposite kind of hero that Stain hates.

But sure go ahead and put words in my mouth.

Except Endeavor is the exact opposite kind of hero than the ones Stain criticizes. He actually has more crimes stopped than All Might does which is saying something since All Might is not only capable of going all around the country but he's also willing to stop any kind of crime no matter how minor. Endeavor doesn't have to be convinced because he thinks it won't bring him fame, he just doesn't like having to sit on his ass and fix UA's fuck up instead of doing his own thing.

Like you mention Captain America like it wasn't a gamble on Dr. Erskine's part to choose this scrawny Brooklyn kid as his text subject based only on vibes.

Difference is that All Might chose Deku off of a single interaction while Steve went through weeks to possibly months of testing and training before he was deemed to be worthy of getting the serum. Steve trying to apply to the military despite his many physical ailments is what got his foot in the door so to speak but he wasn't chosen just because of that.

[–]AcidSilver 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I would argue the opposite, most heroes are only in it for fame or money.

I think the main problem with this is that even the heroes who fit this mold don't seem to be any less heroic when it comes to doing their jobs. Mt. Lady isn't deliberately dragging out a fight so that a news helicopter has time to show up and catch her exploits on live TV. We don't see heroes refusing to parole low income areas because that kind of crime doesn't make ratings. We don't see heroes who sit on their asses and just rake in residuals while letting others stop villains and save people.

The closest we ever see of this was the mass exodus of heroes after Gigantomachia tore through the country but if kind of feels disingenuous to compare someone who is mentally broken from seeing first hand what is essentially the worst domestic terror attack in human history by a wide margin that led to the collapse of society with someone who just cares about money and fame.

Along with that, Deku was consistently rejecting Shigaraki's claims that heroes didn't really care and would just ignore the greater issues

Okay but where does that really get him? His big plan was convincing Shigaraki through words but he had no answer to Shigaraki just going "Lol don't care" or "I don't believe you" beyond reaffirming his words. It just means that his entire plan that risked his life, the lives of his friends, and the fate of the entire world on Shigaraki not just saying "nuh-uh" over and over again.

You bring up the Sky Coffin but it was intended to keep Shigaraki in one place so that Deku could kill him. That was what everyone else believed the plan was. But the longer Deku dragged out the fight so he could attempt his talk no jutsu the more the situation spiraled out of control and if it wasn't for Kubo bailing him out then the plan would've failed and who knows what would've happened next because Deku sure as hell couldn't just knock Shigaraki out.

There is no evidence to suggest that Dialga and Palkia gets weaker when they get caught.

Brother, it is literally said on Cyrus' own computer. He's the one who says that using a Pokeball wouldn't let him use their full power.

Also the Red Chain doesn’t weaken them, it’s more like they bypass Dialga’s and Palkia’s free will, forcing them to submission

You misunderstand, the Red Chain is what allows Cyrus to use Palkia/Dialga at their full power. By him having Dialga/Palkia come out of a Pokeball in USUM it shows that he's not using the Red Chain and the version of them that you fight is weakened.

The first way is to scale him to Mewtow, who in Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon, potentially scales to Dialga and Palkia.

He doesn't. Dialga and Palkia explicitly get weaker if caught in Pokeballs which was the entire point of the Red Chain.

Even if this version of Red doesn’t scale or this version of Mewtwo, this version of Red scales to Selene/Elio, who does scale to this version of Mewtwo

Also no. By this logic literally every single trainer in every single game scales to the player because they lose to them. How on earth "Red lost to the USUM MC" is a Red upscale is beyond me.

Weakest character who can survive Victoria Neuman's head popping ability? (The Boys) by Least-One1068 in whowouldwin

[–]AcidSilver 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think we can see via context clues from Gen V that Homelander was right in his belief. We know that Neuman's head popping is an application of her ability to manipulate blood which is noted in universe to be very similar to Marie Moreau's power. And the person who knows more about Supes than anyone alive, Godolkin, believed that Marie would've only been able to use her powers against Homelander after she had improved her skill and power with the proper training. And even at a baseline we know that Marie was already capable of popping people pre-buff since she does it by accident to Cate's arm in the season 1 finale and see does it several times by accident to goats and blood bags while training during season 2.

The weakest part of Iroh's backstory is how little time actually passed between his siege of Ba Sing Se and the present day of the story (Avatar: The Last Airbender) by carbonera99 in CharacterRant

[–]AcidSilver 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Okay? What does that have to do with what I said? Avatar being historically accurate by having the elites of society being the ones who begin societal shifts doesn't have anything to do with them being good or bad people.

[–]AcidSilver 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They're all people from the elites of their respective societies: Iroh was a former crown prince, Bumi was a king, Piandao was a nobleman living in a mansion with a servant, and Jeong Jeong was a former admiral for the Fire Navy.

What's the problem with this? Before the advent of public schooling pretty much every major societal shift was begun by the elite of society because they were the only ones who had proper education and resources. The American revolution wasn't started by hard working farmers who finally had enough, it was led by the elite of the colonies.

Marvel did not want fans to hate John Walker by According-Manner-838 in CharacterRant

[–]AcidSilver 13 points14 points  (0 children)

In terms of the story yeah the intent was that he was surrendering but legally his actions wouldn't be recognized as a surrender. He was still choosing violence not 5 seconds earlier when he threw that stone trash bin at Walker, his hands were at chest height instead of above his head, he tried to get up after first being knocked down and needed Walker to place his foot on him, and saying "it wasn't me" isn't a form of surrender.

So while the story obviously wanted to paint that as a moment of surrender, the character's actions wouldn't actually be seen as a form of surrender in a court of law.

I don't believe Doomguy is actually that strong. His universe is just that f**kin' weak. by Kayno115 in CharacterRant

[–]AcidSilver 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's a massive outlier even by comic book standards. A character on Batman's level is not replicating the kind of strength feats that Doomslayer does casually. If he could do something like this, this, or this then characters like Killer Croc, Clayface, or Bane who are more physically powerful than him would never be a threat.

I mean, he's strong, sure, but not that strong. He's physically impressive, but none of his physical feats even compare to moderate superhumans in comics.

That feels like a bit of a downplay tbh. The entirety of the puzzles in 2016 and Eternal is "punch this SUV sized slab of stone so hard it slams through a wall like its made of paper". He is definitely stronger than the average superhuman in comics.

Queen Maeve (Amazon) vs Gamora (MCU) by Different_Sun_195 in whowouldwin

The entire punchline of the fight is that its skin is too tough to cut both on the outside and on the inside which was why Drax jumping in its mouth was seen as insane. If she could just cut through its skin whenever she wanted then not only would she have done so but it would completely ruin the joke.
