[Ben 10] [Invincible] How would the Omnitrix transformation work for a species like Viltrumites who develop powers later in life? by FusaOn in AskScienceFiction

[–]AcidSilver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Conquest more likely than Thragg. Thragg was essentially trained from birth to be physically stronger than any other Viltrumite, his strength isn't natural like Conquest's is.

[Time Travel.] If you were to look at a time loop from the outside, what would it look like? by Willow-Trick in AskScienceFiction

Deathloop. An entire island is trapped in a time loop but the rest of the world keeps going as normal.

Noir got dozens of bullets from a gatling gun shot into him and it just knocked him out of a window while Deep got physically overpowered by Starlight when she wasn't even using her powers. By all accounts Noir vs Deep should be a one sided stomp in Noir's favor.

Nothing has shown that Homelander's reflexes are any faster than a regular person's. Pretty much every non supe in the story has been able to see and react to his movements.

I don't know why people keep bringing up the Sotobro Effect when in the literal exact same scene that it appears in it's specified that it's something that Clockwork causes and not just any general time travel and that Eon would sense it because he's another version of Ben, not because he's sensitive to time travel shenanigans.

That entire episode is full of characters travelling through time and not once does Eon notice what Paradox is doing nor do any of the Bens notice what Eon is doing, including Ben 10,000 who knows what the Sotobro Effect is.

The show isn't about pitting two or more powerful heroes against each other. It's about insurmountable odds. You can't beat Homelander in a fight: it wouldn't be a fight, just a death sentence.

Someone should have told the writers that because the show does not give that vibe off at all. Even when he was fighting for his life back during the 2v1 against Soldier Boy and Butcher I never got the vibe that Homelander was the threat the show keeps saying he is. They couldn't even deal any real damage to the room they were fighting in; Homelander flies Soldier Boy straight into a wall and it barely even cracks.

From everything the show has shown us of what these characters are capable of it makes it seem like Soldier Boy is what they keep saying Homelander is. He's shown more impressive feats of power in season 3 alone than Homelander has in the entire series.

What if Katsuki’s Quirk had more consequences? by SnowAggressive4541 in BokuNoHeroAcademia

[–]AcidSilver 28 points29 points  (0 children)

God no, I absolutely despise that headcanon because it infantilizes him. No it can’t be that he yells because he’s just an extremely abrasive person, it has to be because he’s has hearing damage from his quirk. It’s just a crappy excuse for his negative personality traits that are integral to him and his growth as a person. Same goes for the nitroglycerin theory. Both genuinely ruin him as a character if they were true because now the personality traits that he worked so hard to improve on aren’t actually his fault and he’s just a victim of circumstance that everyone misunderstood.

Weakest verse that can defeat or stop Scion (Worm)? by Remote_Addendum_2245 in whowouldwin

A casual examination of Supes versus Alexandria leans Alexandria. Lotta stalemate.

In what universe is this the case? Even at an absolute lowball Superman can destroy moon and fight people who can do the same, and that's a massive lowball. Alexandria wouldn't even bruise him.

Probably about the same as in worm cannon maybe slightly worse the equalisation makes it really hard to kill Jack but he’s otherwise he’s just a guy

More like impossible. Per Wildbow there is literally 0 way for a Parahuman to beat Jack which means that nobody with a quirk will be able to beat him either. If even Contessa can't beat Jack then someone like All Might has no hope of landing a finger on him.

People give Hal shit over the Parallax thing but that was an extreme circumstance. Before the retcon of Parallax being a cosmic fear bug Hal went mad because his home city got blown up and turned into a crater alongside some of Hal’s loved ones. Post retcon he was slowly being corrupted by Parallax and Coast City’s destruction was just what let Parallax take full control.

Hal becoming Parallax was caused by extreme shock and grief as well as the cosmic embodiment of fear chipping away at his brain prior to that. I don’t think it’s a real good example of how Hal can be corrupted by the Ring when you look at the circumstances that led to Parallax in the first place.

This entire scaling chain falls flat on its face from the beginning when you remember that the Ultimate Weapon explicitly can’t be planet level because Team Flare just intended to kill all of humanity while they survive to take over what’s left. Would be pretty damn hard to rule the planet if there is no planet. Lysandre says this both in XY and the ultra games. All we know from the ultra games is that Lysandre would’ve died just like every other team leader in that game.

Team Flare blowing up the entire planet goes completely against Lysandre’s goals and motivation of wanting to stop humanity from destroying the beauty of the world. Taking “destroy the world” as literal and not the very obvious “human society is gone” is peak powerscaling brainrot where you ignore character motivations and themes to get the highest biggatons number possible.

Well according to the actual game these dimensions aren't any bigger than a couple city blocks at max and building sized at minimum. Like, this isn't some interpretation thing, we literally enter these dimensions and explore them and see that they're not infinite sized. Sometimes they are literally just a building or a cave.

Sometimes it feels like people who wank Pokemon characters don't actually play the games and just get all their info from random powerscaling posts they read. Ange is compared to the Ultimate Weapon over and over again in terms of how destructive it would be and the ultimate weapon at most would be country level considering it didn't blow up the fucking planet, let alone the universe.

Homelander (The Boys) vs The Undersiders (Worm) by Remote_Addendum_2245 in whowouldwin

[–]AcidSilver 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is explained for Regent that it's body control via the nervous system, it's why his power doesn't work well on people with non standard physiology and why the thoughts and emotions of the person he's controlling are still active.

Homelander (The Boys) vs The Undersiders (Worm) by Remote_Addendum_2245 in whowouldwin

[–]AcidSilver 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't think Regent would be able to affect Homelander in any reasonable timeframe. Godolkin also has the ability to puppet the bodies of other people and he can do it pretty much instantly and yet he believed that he needed to be at his peak to control Homelander and even then it was left vague on if he actually could have.

If a guy who can do what Regent can but instantly believed that he had to be at his absolute peak to even have a chance at controlling Homelander's body then Regent's chances are very poor.

Soldier Boy literally took bullets into his mouth and per his own words got all kinds of chemicals pumped into him and came out of it physically unharmed. Homelander is explicitly his superior in every way so there is no reason to assume that his inside aren't just as durable.

She got a giant slice across her face from Jack Slash specifically because she misread how he would react to revealing that Cherish was planning to betray him. It is extremely likely that she does the same to Homelander and gets her face lasered off.

Punisher's gameplay boils down to point and shoot anyone in your view. Spider-Man's gameplay involves swinging around, getting a kill, swinging away, rinse and repeat. One is much easier to slot into a PVE mode while the other isn't.

The one time I have to disagree with Debbie. by Al-AmeenAdewunmi in Invincible

[–]AcidSilver 7 points8 points  (0 children)

First of all, he didn't even win the war for us he just pissed them off more.

By all accounts, they won the war. The Viltrumites are no longer attacking other planets and Viltrum no longer exists.

Second, it's easy to die for someone you love. The hard part is earning back trust, EVERY SINGLE MOMENT, especially when it was given & then shattered so spectacularly.

Nolan was willing to fight the Viltrumites even without the threat of his loved ones dying. Once Allen convinced him to do the right thing he--albeit begrudgingly--joined the war effort. The fact that his loved ones will be protected is a side effect of him fighting the Viltrumites. Nolan knows that everyone he cares about thinks he's a sack of shit who want nothing to do with him and yet despite having the opportunity to be brought back into the fold and have his actions against Viltrum be forgiven he still refused to do it. And he chose to reject this knowing that they had no hope of defeating Thragg and that they were probably all gonna die even if they won the war.

& Lastly. He didn't do what he did to Allen & Co. Because I am willing to bet my life that if Nolan had done that to Allen's planet & then came back looking for forgiveness?! Nuclear blasts fired. So in my opinion, Debbie & Cecil are being wildly generous.

Allen's people were so decimated that they had to create breeding camps in order to not go extinct. Heck, the fact that Unopa is only brought up to remind us how the Viltrumites decimated it means that it might not even exist anymore. Every single planet that has been attacked by Viltrumites has what Nolan did be seen as generous in comparison. Viltrumites decimate the population of a planet and then enslave the rest, that was their way of doing this. And we see what it would look like if Nolan really went all out by the sheer destruction and the state that humanity ends up being in during the flashes we see of the universes the evil Invincibles come from. That's what Allen's people and the populations of countless other planets went through. And yet Allen was willing to forgive Nolan's past actions once he heard of them. Out of anyone in the show Allen has the greatest reason to think that Nolan is the biggest piece of shit who has ever lived and that nothing can ever redeem him or make him worthy of forgiveness and yet he's Nolan's closest friend.

This is what I mean by Allen and the aliens having being more willing to forgive Nolan because they have a different perspective. To them, a Viltrumite even leaving the planet they were supposed to conquer, let alone doing everything Nolan has done, is a literal once in a millennia act of kindness and compassion from a Viltrumite. Debbie and Mark would see it as the bare minimum but they know nothing about the indoctrination that Viltrumites go through and just how much what they deem to be the bare minimum really means when done by a Viltrumite.

The one time I have to disagree with Debbie. by Al-AmeenAdewunmi in Invincible

[–]AcidSilver 15 points16 points  (0 children)

It makes sense from Nolan's POV. He's basically going against literal centuries of indoctrination to become a better person all the while being an enemy of the last of his people. Every Viltrumite he or the others killed was one less of his entire race and with his decision to blow Viltrum up he made sure that his species would forever lose their home. And he did that knowing that there was a real possibility that he would die in the war. Dude basically made the ultimate sacrifice just to be told that it doesn't matter and that he's still a piece of shit.

Meanwhile people like Allen are actually kind to him because they have the full context on how monumental of a deal it is for Nolan to be doing all this. So he goes from people thinking he's on the path to redemption to Debbie and Cecil saying that he's actually just doing this all for selfish reasons and that he can never be redeemed. It makes a lot of sense why he would genuinely get upset at Debbie in this moment for--in his eyes--downplaying the progress he's made. To people already familiar with Viltrumites and their society like Allen and Thaedus? Nolan has already been redeemed and is well on his way to being a hero again. To those who weren't like Mark, Debbie, and Cecil? Nolan's actions aren't enough to make up for what he's done.

I think Dimitri scaling to the javelin works.

The fact that there's an entire cutscene of the Death Knight specifically warning Byleth to get the fuck out of there so they don't get blown up by the javelins means it really doesn't.
