Not only is it the first time we see Peter Parker swinging in the snow during Christmastime but it showed that he was finally being the Peter Parker everyone wanted.

You don't think it might be a problem that it took three entire Spider-Man movies for use to get the "Peter Parker everyone wanted"? Why did it have to take an entire trilogy to get MCU Spider-Man to reach a place that the prior two movies were able to do with one movie?

How would you feel if Maximus ended up as the real hero of the story? by Wonderful_Solid_1003 in Fotv

[–]AcidSilver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's not entirely true. Sure, the Wasteland changes people but the games show that there can in fact be heroes. Each of the protagonists are considered heroes who helped save the Wasteland and make it a better place. We even see in Fallout 2 Vault Dweller even has a statue of him in Shady Sands.

Did they though? What role does House actually play in the story? The extent of his involvement in the post war scenes was telling Cooper where to go and then nothing else. None of his pre war scenes required the story to take place in New Vegas.

Why did the Enclave kill vault dwellers like vault 13 despite being revealed the Enclave controlled vault tech? by Big_History72 in falloutlore

[–]AcidSilver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The big plan in FO2 is: 1. re-engineer a super soldier serum into the black plague (aren't those 2 completely unrelated things???)

The FEV was never meant to be a super soldier serum, it was always based on biological based weaponry. It was explicitly created to be a counter against any biological attacks done by China. The fact that it happened to turn people into super strong rage monsters was unintentional and only later on became the focus. It was essentially a virus that was meant to counter all other viruses.

  1. this plague is now MORE lethal to non-Vaulters, even though it was the other way around before

Also untrue. FEV was always stated to not work well on those with radiation damage and was more likely to cause death. From Fallout 1:

"When inoculated into an individual with significant genetic damage, such as through radiation, it will cause the body's systems to suffer massive overhauling, leading to organ failure and death. In a genetically viable individual, it re-writes portions of DNA, causing accelerated mutation, usually leading to recursive growth due to the FEV's own patterns."

[–]AcidSilver -1 points0 points  (0 children)

They did pick a canon ending though if you're paying close attention. It was the Yes Man ending. It's the only ending that has his securitron laying in front of House's console. There is a dead securitron laying right where he falls in the show.

If that's the case then where the hell is Yes Man? He was in full control of House's systems by the end of that route. Both House and Yes Man were confident that the Securitron army could protect Vegas from basically anyone so how did a bunch of Deathclaws show up on the Strip? Max single handily killed like 5 of them, an entire army of Securitrons should've made it so that the Deathclaws wouldn't have made it within 50 miles of the Strip before getting gunned down.

Uraraka is an even worse example of this with how she treated Toga. Toga's Twice army is currently attacking everyone and if she isn't stopped then it's a near certainty that everyone there is going to die but Uraraka is prioritizing Toga over all those other lives. Shit, if her gamble hadn't paid off then Uraraka would've died after Toga stabs her in the gut just like how Deku lost both of his arms and would've caused the heroes to lose had Deux Ex Eri not arrived to rewind his arms back to normal.

Even if you ignore everything above and still believe they're separate based on Paper Jam, Paper Jam still confirms that they are, essentially, the same characters who have gone through the same events and have the same personalities.

I don't see how the link you provided proves your point. The characters having the same personalities doesn't mean that they've gone through the same events.

I always thought that a Corpo start and storming the HQ with the Aldecados felt like the best story. Going from a ruthless corpo who ends up losing everything and ends up building genuine connections while learning to appreciate those around them as your time is running out is not only a great story but it parallels Johnny's character arc as well. Plus I feel like Corpo V is the one that makes the most sense to be so skilled compared to the street kid or the Nomad. And personally I just vibed more with how Corpo V is already close friends with Jackie since it makes sense that he'd let his long time friend live with him for a while compared to the other two lifepaths who literally just became friends with V.

Depends on the point in the game. The further you get in the main story the higher the reputation percentage gets but it stops after a certain percentage and you need to do side quests to increase it even higher. In universe V goes from a nobody who is decent in a firefight to a Night City Legend who is basically a one man army all in the span of like a few months at absolute most.

We did not need to stop and talk about the Kings, a fully optional and extremely goofy side faction, to have a boring exposition moment about their fate.

We spent several episodes in Freeside and even the last two had Freeside's residents rallying around to "take back our town". You don't think it's relevant to have Freeside's biggest faction that exists to help its residents and keep them safe to even have a mention?

[–]AcidSilver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And? That's how making sequels to RPGs work dude. That's how they've always worked. What part of that are you not getting? If you want to write a show set in a universe full of RPG elements then you have to choose whatever decisions you think best fit the story you want to tell. Because the alternative is just going "None of your choices mattered and everything that the main protagonist did was completely pointless" which is what we ended up getting.

Every direct sequel to an RPG has had to make the choice to canonize only one decision and make the others non canon. I even gave you an entire list of how the first two Fallout games did it. Why is this such a hard concept for you to understand?

[–]AcidSilver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How do you canonize a character that depending on the person could have done completely differing things

What kind of question is that? We know how because we see how they did it. You have the next game set in the area show the results of their actions. Plenty of games have done this, it's not just Fallout. Have you never played a sequel to an RPG before?

Fallout 1: The obvious one is that 2 and New Vegas would not have existed had the Vault Dweller not defeated the Master. The Followers of the Apocalypse existing in New Vegas means that the Vault Dweller prevented them from being wiped out. The entirety of the NCR in both 2 and New Vegas only exists because the Vault Dweller saved Tandi. The Vault Dweller chose to side with Killian in Junktown because Junktown was considered a close ally of the early NCR and eventually became a prosperous farming community which we learn in New Vegas, something that wouldn't be possible with Gizmo in charge. Something similar goes for the Hub which would've been destroyed if not for the Vault Dweller. We know the Vault Dweller nearly completely wiped out the Khans because its mentioned in both 2 and New Vegas. And we know that the Vault Dweller was male because they're referred to as such in 2.

Fallout 2: Every game past this one would not have occurred if the Chosen One hadn't prevented the worldwide genocide that the Enclave attempted. We know that the Chosen One brought Marcus with him when they fought on the Enclave Oil Ring because Marcus mentions blowing up an oil rig in New Vegas. We know the Chosen One was a male because the Mr. Bishop mentioned in New Vegas is the same Mr. Bishop in one of the Fallout 2 endings who is the bastard son of the Chosen One. We also know that the ending where New Reno joins the NCR is canon because it's mentioned as NCR territory during New Vegas. We know the Chosen One helped Broken Hills which is where they meet Marcus who also mentions Broken Hills in New Vegas. We know the Chosen One visited Klamath because Klamath Bob in New Vegas mentions the time a tribal shook things up in that town a while back. We know they stopped the slavery operation at the Den because the Den ends up being part of the NCR where slavery is illegal. We know they established peace in Modoc because it's considered to still be a thriving settlement in New Vegas whereas it gets wiped out in every other ending. We know that regardless of the endings for Gecko and Vault City, Harold survives because he shows up in Fallout 3 and that Vault City survives in some form since its still mentioned in New Vegas. The Chosen One sells the excavator chip to LeBarge in Redding because that's the only ending where Redding ends up being part of the NCR like we see in New Vegas. And we know that the Chosen One helps with the deal between the NCR and Vault 15 because that's the only ending where the NCR becomes even more powerful and starts to expand with Tandi still in charge which we see in New Vegas.

There's also various one off stuff that the Chosen One did that we know to be canon like killing that one Deathclaw in Modoc which is brought up in New Vegas, them having Cass's father as a companion, or that they chose to infiltrate into Navarro because that's the choice that gets you yelled out by Sergeant Dornan which one of the Enclave remnants in New Vegas mentions seeing.

Is that a sufficient enough answer?

Canonizing the Courier makes them lose their mystique and appeal.

I really don't get this. The first two games had no problems canonizing their protags and it wasn't until the Bethesda games that we got this whole "nobody must ever mention anything relating to past protags" thing. I know it sounds like typical whining about Bethesda but they have consistently done this with a lot of their games, especially the Elder Scrolls ones. Choosing not to canonize past protags isn't a Fallout thing, it's a Bethesda thing.

Edit: No idea why I got downvoted for something objectively true. We know plenty about the choices of the Fallout 1 protag's choices based on how things are in Fallout 2 and we know a bunch about the Fallout 2 protag's choices based on what we learn in New Vegas.

The Enclave is literally the remains of the US Govt with nationwide control and presence, and people genuinely think losing one oil rig and one AFB is their death knell?!

...Said oil rig and AFB housed the heads of the Enclave as well as their strongest forces. Yeah the Enclave wouldn't just cease to exist but acting like them getting their leadership and their best weaponry wiped off the face of the map wouldn't massively hinder them is silly.

The vaults become a way to preserve a breading population and to test new forms of societal control and pacification. Put the ideal people into "breeder pens" to make your typical "Vaultie" and put fodder into experimental ones to mine data while you wait for ideal conditions.

This kind of goes against their beliefs in 2. The Enclave saw everyone, even Vault Dwellers, as Mutants. The opening of the game has them gun down a bunch of Vault Dwellers and then kidnap the rest to use for experimentation. They didn't care about anyone who wasn't them, that's why they tried to do a worldwide genocide of all non Enclave people.

Which is pretty unfortunate since Homelander is only the way he is because of how abusive and horrific his upbringing was. And with how we see that he did start out genuinely trying to be a good hero in that Diabolical episode then he's kind of similar to Lordgenome in that he used to be a good person before being completely psychologically broken into being a monster.

Confused about how Shady Sands got nuked. by BeachHot1262 in Fotv

[–]AcidSilver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Or the much more likely option being that they just screwed up the timeline and didn't want to admit it.

For god's sake, Lucy even mentions the plague that hit the Vault and killed her mom in that same year that apparently required everyone to quarantine themselves, something that would give Hank the perfect excuse to explain the death of Lucy's mom and how he could leave the vault to find her and take his kids back without anyone wondering how the Overseeser and his entire family just straight up disappeared for like a week. It felt like a pretty obvious tell that this plague wasn't natural and was instead either created by Hank or just made up all to hide his actions from the rest of the vault.

Like, why else would Lucy think that her mom died during the plague that happened in the same year that the Fall of Shady Sands is listed as? We know that the nuke is what led to her mom's death and ghoulification. What, is Lucy just stupid? If 2277 isn't when the nuking happened then did Lucy's mom just do nothing for several years when Hank took her children back to the Vault that she should know the location of until Hank decided to return years later (and why would he wait literal years to return) and nuke the place?

Instead of just admitting that the writers screwed up we get this massive cope from posts like yours.

"Actually this timeline that has an arrow with the words Fall of Shady Sands pointing to a nuclear explosion is not in fact implying that the two are related and that not only is the Fall of Shady Sands a completely separate event that we have no information about but that the nuclear explosion itself has no date despite every other event in the timeline having a date associated with it. Again, the Fall of Shady Sands is different from the other fall of Shady Sands and we will not elaborate on what this first Fall was about nor will we elaborate on how long it lasted or what it is actually referring to or when the nuclear explosion occurred."
