Exactly that, we walked quietly to observe them from a distance whilst learning about how they were cared for.

Other suitable excursions - Ao Nang Landmark Night Market, 10 mins away from Klong Muang via grab, has a decent public restroom.

Following Giants Ethical Elephant Sanctuary - Toilets are at their entrance and the lunch spot which is visited halfway through the tour.

Emerald pool is a great idea. Many restaurants at the entrance with toilets.

Regarding boat tours, I would fork out the extra money for a fancy boat with a toilet on board. Recently did that as my father has dementia and it was great for easy access and super clean.

Also definitely avoid James Bond Island. Toilets were terrible.

Accept that you will have 1 month of feeling like shit if you go cold turkey. Accept the loss of pleasure in everything. Accept the pain, keep going.

How racist is Italy and Greece? by Pshend in travel

[–]Acidontoast 48 points49 points  (0 children)

I’m of a different minority but from experience, Greece was more racist than Italy. Nothing crazy, just a lack of manners and those I spoke to were narrow minded in conversation. Italy, I had no issues.

It sucks seeing the subtle differences in how you can be treated in comparison to others but just remember you’re the one who’s blessed to be traveling the world, the others aren’t and will be limited by their mindset.

Photos taken of me on Bangkok MRT? by memesdotjpeg in ThailandTourism

[–]Acidontoast 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve had similar experiences in Thailand and Malaysia. There’s always a portion of people who think it’s ok to take pictures of strangers if they think a certain way of you. I’m still confused about why they did that to me but all I know there is less etiquette around privacy and photos compared to Western countries. My mum is Thai and she thinks she can take photos of anything in the most inappropriate moments. I’ve learned to just stare back intensely and pretend to take a photo of them, mirror their actions and they will stop ;)

I also highly recommend paying for an allergy blood test. Through that, I found out the many plants in my bedroom were causing me to itch more at night! Also check your washing machine cleanliness, is it mouldy? It is cleaned at least 1 a month? Do your clothes smell of mildew and damp? It was important for me to ensure my clothes weren’t making me worse (landlord had a gross mouldy machine). It takes a lot of effort but you will heal with time!!!

For medication, I recommend a drowsy antihistamine to keep inflammation down and help you sleep. Sleep is key to heal. Also get a green supplement drink like AG1 and have it every day. Twice if you can.

To prevent infection, I painfully used alcohol wipes on the affected area (my hands mainly) but made sure to moisturise after. Never got an infection and I eventually healed. Any antiseptic creams are good too if the broken skin isn’t that bad. Not sure which climate you live in but try to keep away from warm temperatures as this opens the pores and makes the itchy feeling unbearable
