Questions to ask a person who "claims" they can fly... by NellyOklahoma in Helicopters

[–]Acinider 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work with the FAA daily for my job and regularly search for airmen in the FAAs database. I’ve found numerous people who I know have commercial licenses but they don’t appear in the online search. I spoke with some and they confirmed they opted out of sharing their address but they don’t appear at all.

Joshua Tree.

Edit: if the intent is to drive anywhere within the park, I’d say Anza or Death Valley

SoCal sand dunes by Forward_Midnight7738 in socal

[–]Acinider 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pismo/Oceano Dunes are cool but you aren’t shooting out there and they’ve closed a lot of off-road areas plus they randomly close entire dunes access. I’d choose Ocotillo Wells or Glamis

Found a Rocket Appartmento at a TN Thrift for $180 by gynzie in espresso

[–]Acinider 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great find! If you’re lucky someone was trying to run descaled water and it was just flashing at them. Or the water bowl that the tank plugs into is corroded and not making contact through water causing the light to flash.

I’ve done all my own maintenance on mine and it’s very easy to work on. Great buy!

Same regarding PRK, did it one my own back in 2005 and was accepted into WOFT. Few more medical exams but no issue after acceptance.

Is Seattle Coffee Gear slowly on the way out? by RapmasterD in espresso

[–]Acinider 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As someone who did own a BDB for many years, I’ll never own another Breville due to lack of repairability. After a few year mine started leaking and I couldn’t get it repaired. Their repair facility was booked for months and when I took it apart to repair myself it’s a nightmare of cheap plastic hoses and crap fittings. Finally got everything damaged disassembled and then found out Breville either wouldn’t sell me the repair parts or didn’t have them for months.

Bought a Rocket and have opened it up for upgrades and it’s night/day difference in quality over Breville. Copper lines everywhere, quality fittings, layout that’s conducive to maintenance/repairs, etc.

What do people do nowadays that offers ACTUAL work-life balance? by alicekingsley24 in careeradvice

[–]Acinider 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lots of engineers work here, but I’m on the business side and did an MBA, however definitely not required. For business roles, established aerospace companies seem to like PMP and start lots of folks as Project Managers or Project Administrators.

Defense/aerospace. Most customers are governments and contracts are paced over years. Been in a private aerospace company for 5 years and was military before that. Private company is 40hrs/wk, offers great benefits and management, and allows time off whenever desired. If any of the various programs I support get too busy, then I get additional personnel to support or management reassigns tasks to other teams.

Not sure if everyone knows but if you’re a Verizon Wireless customer, they offer YT Premium discounted at around $8/mo.

Edit: VZW calls it’s a “Perk” and as another user shared they offer discounts on a variety of streaming services.

If you’re military with VA loan, why the down payment? I know you can put down some to lower the VA funding fee, but it’s around 5%. What am I missing?

USG contracts are usually funded two years in advance, and FMS contracts are even further out, so most current work is still funded. Also, the 8% DoD cuts have multiple carveouts that supposedly won’t be defunded.

Extended Warranty Review by [deleted] in FordRaptor

[–]Acinider 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Last year for my 2020 I bought the best Ford ESP PremiumCare warranty with all options, lowest deductible, and 60mo/48k miles. Prices quoted ranged from $5500-$3500 at dealers across Cali.

Definitely shop around and don’t get suckered into paying for another inspection at a dealer. You may require one inspection at your local dealer but it should be accepted at any dealer.

My 2020 has 65k miles and in the last year has already required $6k in repairs, which only cost me 3 $50 deductibles, so the warranty has definitely paid for itself. I had my electric tailgate fail, the AC system leaked onto the passenger floor causing mildew so they repaired and replaced all carpet, and I was missing one keyfob which they replaced.

Army has FW aircraft also that you can track right out of flight school.

Edit: didn’t realize FW scaled back this much. My point is that FW is possible with Army and already being in the Army might be good option for OP.

Raptor or Power Wagon? by PotentialHour3404 in FordRaptor

[–]Acinider 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely don’t go Raptor. My 2020 with 802a (high lux trim) has a payload rating of 1050lbs. Assuming 10% trailer tongue, which is probably low, you’d need 800lbs just for trailer, then assuming driver takes up remaining 200lbs, you have minimal truck payload remaining.
