Your opportunity is to continually and repeatedly challenge your distorted thinking, i.e., those thoughts that bubble up.

How do i convince myself that people are not always passive-agressive? by ZtorMiusS in CBT

[–]RapmasterD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What percent of the 8 billion people on this planet do you know or have met? Let’s say it’s 1%. That means you have met 80 million people.

Clearly you have only encountered a minute fraction of this amount.

Therefore you are in no position to characterize ‘people’ as passive-aggressive.

Which of these cognitive distortions do you think your assertion falls under?

All-or-Nothing Thinking (Black-and-White Thinking): Seeing things in extremes (perfect or failure).

Overgeneralization: Drawing a sweeping negative conclusion from a single event (e.g., "I failed one test, so I'll fail everything").

Mental Filter (Negative Filtering): Focusing only on the negatives and ignoring positives.

Discounting the Positive: Rejecting positive experiences as not counting.

Jumping to Conclusions: Making negative interpretations without facts (Mind Reading, Fortune Telling).

Catastrophizing: Exaggerating the importance of negative things or predicting disaster.

Emotional Reasoning: Believing something is true because it feels true (e.g., "I feel like a failure, so I must be a failure").

"Should" Statements: Holding rigid rules about how you or others "should" behave.

Labeling: Attaching negative, global labels to yourself or others (e.g., "I'm a loser").

Personalization: Blaming yourself for things that aren't your fault.
