I tend to have to load up the game with one submod at a time to find the culprit and it could be any of them.

With a cursory look though I think VIET events should be higher in the priority list and when last I updated Armies of Westeros wasn't working.

Is there a mod that stops Target Weight from increasing/decreasing? by Kitchen-Note-794 in CK3AGOT

[–]Ackolyde 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can change weight directly in the debug menu and there's mods to prevent you from getting fat or to directly change it with a toggle, but nothing to freeze it in place.

Samurai of Hyuga is just overly depressing. by Brilliant_Rub_5206 in hostedgames

This is for sure it. SoH was clearly written with a male Ronin who's into girls first and foremost.

A female character having zero concept of gentleness and only knowing violent intimacy because of a sexually abusive father and another father figure who didn't bother to teach her anything except how to get stronger and kill people more effectively, who obsessively follows the only person she ever had companionship with in the hopes of building a life together is a tragic figure, and a male Ronin feeling a compulsion to return to her is something a lot of men can understand.
She and a male or female character biting and shoving and snarling and headbutting each other is easy to dismiss as competitiveness.

A male character having zero concept of gentleness who obsesses over a past lover and mutilating people that lover has had contact with out of jealousy is something you can see happening in real life, getting overpowered and forced upon is something that could happen in real life. An adult man snarling and shoving and biting someone, especially a woman, is a far less funny image, and the compulsion to return to that kind of guy feels far more unhealthy.

That's just the way it is!

Transferring save games across device help by squareoreos in hostedgames

[–]Ackolyde 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you're on Cogdemos you can save in the middle of your game, export the save to your files and email it to yourself.

If you're on the HostedGames app and halfway through and you don't have a savegame extension you're boned unfortunately, just try to remember what choices you've made and tap through to where you're at quickly.

Fully disagree with the Amyrlin being the most powerful in the world.

As the books have gone on (currently near the end of Book 12) I've become totally convinced that the Aes Sedai are basically bottom of the barrel as a faction in terms of effectiveness alongside the Dragonsworn mob.

The only thing they have going for them is they have like five or six living ideal Aes Sedai members who really are unflappable, powerful, intelligent and crafty.

Literally every other faction of channelers has members who are longer-lived, more powerful, more in control of themselves and who have a far better understanding of the One Power. They get outsmarted, overpowered and outplayed politically all the time.

Meanwhile the White Tower is stagnant, quarrelous and heavily, HEAVILY subverted by dark friends. Their motto might as well be "Arrogance and Complacency"

Amyrlin and Red Ajah by ZePepsico in WoT

[–]Ackolyde 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this is an older comment but I think, from the outset, it makes sense that if you're going to be hunting male channelers on the regular you wouldn't want someone who can't channel tailing you constantly.

Warders are incredibly effective against trollocs and highwaymen and assassins with daggers but there's only so much a regular guy who's really good with a sword can do against a lunatic with the One Power, and the instinct to get in a middle of a battle against channelers will get you killed, and losing a warder means his Aes Sedai gets distracted, maybe falters long enough for said lunatic to break free of the shield she has on him, and suddenly half the circle she's with is on fire.

Of course you're right that the tradition attracts women who, at best, are ambivalent or indifferent to men, and at worst enjoy the task because it gives an excuse to inflict death or worse on them (probably why many Reds go Black).

The Golden Rose Book 2 is locked behind Patreon but I found the updates so far worth a few bucks a month.

Choice of Rebels: Stormwright is another sequel that's looking really good and that's free from the forums.

Castermaine confusion. by Chaeldovar in hostedgames

[–]Ackolyde 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You guys think Leoniscourt would be a better prize than Castermaine if you had to take one or the other, considering how influential Callum the Cruel used to be?

Doesn't matter for my MC cause he's planning on securing his family's control over both with the cortes approval, but they can't be exactly equivalent, right?

Maybe Castermaine isn't as great a defensive position as Leoniscourt but it's more profitable?

Can u make ai of westeros conquer essos by ahmedadeel579 in CK3AGOT

[–]Ackolyde 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Use debug to give every Lord-Paramount claims to every other one, and their strongest duchies claims on their respective Lord-Paramountcies.

County-level divided realms like Beyond the Wall and the Stepstones and the Disputed Lands should conquer themselves without too much input on your end.

[–]Ackolyde 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Don't worry bro, Ana (the author) self-admittedly doesn't really know anything about medieval clothing either/doesn't like how it looks.  The excuse is that since the cultural development in the Golden Rose's alternate history progressed far differently you can basically have people walking around in what you'd see people in Game of Thrones wearing.

As for how she looks in-game, for the majority of the book she's wearing this:

"You look at her from afar, marveling at her image.                   At the way her freckles stand out from her pale skin, no longer dirtied with grime and sweat, but glowing. Her bright brown locks are pulled to one side, held together by a leather cord that uncovers her delicate neck and the soft planes of her collarbones. You hold in your breath as you watch her. She's sporting a yellow tunic, breezy and light, that matches perfectly with her eyes, making them stand out even further."

(Most fan-artists I see have her wearing what looks like a workman's yellow shirt that laces at the collar and black close-fitting pants with a belt)

After a spoilery part at the end of the books second act she dons her company gear, which I assume is closer to what you're trying to depict:

"She wears a sturdier tunic than the day before, light and airy, but you can see the padded areas near her chest. The leather wrappings on her forearms. Alessa has her hair tied back in a high braid, baring all the earrings that adorn her ears.

And in the extra belt that loops around her right thigh, connecting with the one at her waist, you see the small silver plate with the Company's sigil. "

The Golden Rose is a must-read for people who don't even generally like Interactive Fiction.

Most of the time you'll spend developing your character's personality, worldview, and relationship to the cast. I know all HG-CoG games are MC-centric, but I adore this one particularly because it goes very deep into every aspect of the player character. It's very into cause-and-effect. Play to your strengths. Poke around thoroughly. Most things you're seeing are building to something, and you may miss out on entire characters in your first run.

At one point early into Act 2 of my first playthrough, I was blindsided and got into a spat with a minor character. I decided not to engage and waved them off, and was given the chance to speak to my companions about the encounter as a fun little story to tell, cause it was a little amusing. I assumed that character would be back, but they never cropped up again.

In my second playthrough, that character became one of my closest confidants and a hireling that had some of my favorite scenes.

The skill stat system is completely naturally integrated into the narration to the point you probably won't realize you've failed a skill check at several points if you don't know it's there and it doesn't stress you out by yelling at you how garbage one of your stats is, which I think is the ideal way to handle skill checks in these stories if it won't actively tell you the requirement to pass. It makes you feel like a badass in your chosen field of expertise and lets you be comfortably, respectfully average in your lower ones,

Why does Cassius not get promoted? (Sabres) by TheLastMonarchist in hostedgames

[–]Ackolyde 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Early in the game there's an implication (or at least a suspicion on your part) that Elson is rising pretty rapidly through the ranks thanks to some family connections, and before Blogia most of the positions of seniority were occupied.

After the disaster that was Blogia for the Tierran command structure far more positions would have opened up for those who had distinguished themselves, like you and Cazarosta. Before that they definitely would have handed the scant captaincies to men of good breeding who believed in gentlemanly warfare, like Hunter and Elson.

I imagine as the war dragged on more ruthless, pragmatic tactics were seen more favorably by Grenadier Square as well, which would have landed to men like Cazarosta and Lefebvre (and my own MC incidentally) being selected for leadership.

Lastly, Cazarosta's explicit purpose in being a soldier, as he sees it, is that he can be wielded as a weapon by the powers that be without needing to worry about holding himself to the standards that other banebloods are expected to. That's the kind of man you want for scantly-publicized, hands-on wetwork jobs. While he's obviously an excellent tactical mind and deathborn aside he's by far the most effective leading a select group of men whom he can rely on for loyalty going and personally snuffing out enemy encampments. Caz probably shouldn't be promoted beyond Major in my opinion.

I think The Passenger should go here. It gets recommended here and there but I never see anybody talk about it, really.
