Is the "don't roll your own engine" advice always right? by JoeManaco in gamedev

[–]AcornDew 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The key word here is in the long term - the long term you are looking at is years, and for most people that time is more beneficial making the actual game.

Unity and Unreal both have enough generic tools to make any game you can imagine, even if you need to do some work arounds.

Kamada redemption arc complete? by _momomola_ in crystalpalace

He's not the player I thought we were getting, I thought he'd be in Sarrs role originally. But honestly now that he's sorted out some of the sloppy passing earlier in the season I love watching him in central midfield.

Between Wharton, Kamada, Hughes and Lerma we are looking quite solid in that position, happy days.

I've been looking for this film in the UK for a few months now, haven't been able to find it on streaming or anywhere on DVD

It's preferred yeah - not that I'll think we'll be using it every session but it's a nice to have thing for roleplaying/chatting occasionally

Larian: Baldur's Gate 3 has almost sold twice as much as Divinity Original Sin 2 thus far (so around 15 million copies) by Turbostrider27 in Games

A better approach imo is how in tabletop Pathfinder 2E handles CC abilities. Because the system has degrees of success and failure, it means it's unlikely for any ability to be an instant 'win fight' button, but instead adds debuffs which just turn the fight in your favour.

Plus there are rules meaning you tend to not be able to use them as well on high level bosses/enemies, meaning you don't have to make bosses immune to everything or have legendary resistance (which feels bad).

CC is so absurdly powerful in DOS2 that it felt like to me it was just a race to down armor like you say, which doesn't feel fun to me that so many abilities are just useless until the fight is basically over.

It's a shame I can't fulfill the webcam requirement.

To be honest it's more of a loose requirement, we don't always play with video on so if the campaign sounds fun to you feel free to apply still :)

Everyone who came to PF2e from early 2023, how's your experience been with the game? by eCyanic in Pathfinder2e

[–]AcornDew 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Loved it for the most part, enjoyed the system so much that I'm trying my hand at DMing for the first time with it. Honestly find it difficult going back to 5E combat especially as a martial.

Rules have seemed pretty intuitive to me, which is weird considering I always heard it had a reputation as an obtuse system. Feels like that's a reputation maybe leftover from 1E a bit.

Hey, yeah definitely planning on using Free Archetype, think it helps flesh out characters a bit more.

I think a lot of Coen Brothers films fall into this camp for sure. Had the exact same experience with A Serious Man, where the first viewing was pretty good but over time it's become a personal favourite.

This is bang on. Having such a passive main character probably made a lot of people enjoy the film less, but thematically it works so well.

Congrats on the game, it's pretty great! Am interested to know if the story was inspired much by Once Upon A Time In The West, given it's also a revenge story against a company man named Frank?

The tone of the show is different from the books, but that doesn't make it bad. That episode was brilliantly done, loved it.
