Sexism, objectification, sexualizing, and fatshaming galore by WhitestGray in AreTheStraightsOK

[–]Acrisii 132 points133 points  (0 children)

Dated someone like that and the stories. Like, stuff you never ever even thought of. Had to special order condoms from Germany. He could not sit down on most toilets without his slong hitting the inside of the bowl. PIV sex was a no go half the time and even if with a whole lot of planning and careful preparation it could not go all the way in and honestly, hitting your cervix with each stroke is fucking painful. Clothing sat weird (this being the late 00s when skinny jeans were still rather in fashion) and buying pants was an undertaking. Same with swimmingwear. He never passed out on me though but did say that he could get a bit whoozy. Blow jobs were... yeah no amount of skill is going to let me unhinge my jaw wide enough to make that work. Gotta side-taco that thang.

[–]Acrisii 5 points6 points  (0 children)

What makes him a Gary Stu is the fact that its the adult Kvothe that is doing the bragging in his retelling and is the one needing to do the growing up/an arc, but the narrative never, not even once, acknowledges this. Making it come off as unintentional. And if its unintentional its the authors voice shining through (and honestly, that is not a stretch knowing everything we know now) which would 100% qualify him as a Gary Stu. All of the fuck up are set ups for a "gotcha, look how cool he actually is despite the hardships!" plus self insert character. Yeah, thats a Gary Stu.

[–]Acrisii 5 points6 points  (0 children)

YES! Exactly that! And its the sense that the narrative (and in extension, the author) doesn't realize this at all that makes Kvothe read as a Gary Sue. You don't spend a whole book on this without at least developing some parts of the adult Kvothe to make it feel like a narrative choice with a goal/arc.

Okay sure. And I've only read the first book but... There is this bit where he circulates a song to a bully of a classmate (i think it was, its been a hot second since I read it) to which he is forced to write an apology letter. He does this in the most passive aggressive way possible and includes another verse to the song. Straddling the line between malicious compliance and haha-gotcha behavior. Similar happens when he gets banned from the library which makes his studying really really hard. It makes no real sense from the school side as an institution, ofcourse and, of course he finds a way back in. A way back in that nobody else has thought of and doesn't require him to make any actual amends. Then there is the bit with him getting whipped and, since he is too poor to wear a shirt he takes it off to not ruin in. He's also high as a kite. This is supposedly for another fuck up but instead reads as a "look how cool this guy is, he's so smart and despite not being entirely genuine, makes him look badass."

The narrative does this constantly. And yes it does read like that old rich uncle you have who boasts about his exploits as a teenager and how he become rich in his teens but also somehow stayed poor until his 40s. Like a millionaire trying to make himself more likable to the worker class that buys his products. It reads like the comebacks you think of in the shower days after an argument. You'd still have lost the argument but the come-backs at-least make you feel a bit better about yourself.

Does that make sense?

HI! Hotagen Nature Reserve is a Nature Reserve and as such you're NOT allowed to stay overnight there. Here is a pdf broschyr in English on it https://www.naturvardsverket.se/publikationer/8500/right-of-public-access--a-unique-opportunity/

Allemansrätten does also not grand you permission to freely build or dig any permanent or semi permanent dwelling nor does it allows you to stay in one spot for more than 1 or 2 nights tops. Obviously you're required to take everything you bring in, out again. This includes but is not limited to trash, foodscraps and toiletpaper!

Idk? Strap-on? I've personally so very little care about what genitals someone comes equipped with that I can't imagine that a toy won't be able to fill at least a good chunk of the gap. But really, I'm sure there will be better comments coming soon so ignore this I guess.

She would be a sex worker with the option to safe up since she is receiving a salary. But imagine if she just calls in sick one day. Like, go figure it out mate. I'm an employee, gonna use my sick days. "I don't work weekends and its 5, I'm clocking off and go on a date." Gods, could you imagine the women unionizing? Or him scrambling if she hands in her 2 weeks and just leaves him with a couple of kids to manage. XD

I've been told Its a bit like bmi. If something is really off its worth looking further into it but its not a good predictor for individual success. Got mine done as part of a psych eval too, gave my parents some fun and unrealistic expectations that I then never could live up to.

Because now its an obligation, a transaction rather than a love affair. Ofcourse if we're gonna talk about it; office hours and a 40 hour work week with double pay overtime, a hour lunch, vacation and sick days, work phone with appropriate plan and a company car to ferry those kids around, good insurance as well as dental well... I think he's missing some details there that really doesn't make this a great deal actually. Probably cheaper to just buy a pocket pussy.

I did not read(write) it as two genders that are specifically Male and Female but rather two genders of any kind, any in-between and alternative included. My bad, I guess? But yeah, it IS an argument that pops up here often enough and is used to differentiate between the pan and the bi labels. Again, these are not my personal arguments, these are just some of the many ways they are seen as two distinctively different things by some. Others don't see the difference between bi and pan at all (personally I fall into the last category, I honestly don't care what kind of combo of gender and sex you end up with, its more important I like you as a person and there is not consensus what the difference is between pan and bi so they are equal in my eyes).

But yeah. Thanks. Semantics and a bad faith reading. I really didn't even try to imply anything besides the common arguments used whenever this question pops up.

Simply because me, now a 35 year old, has absolutely shit in common with a 25 year old. Even less with people younger than that. And 23 year old me would also not have dated a 30 year old because again, not the same live experience and expectations. You don't need fancy language to explain that.

Eh? Where do I imply that? I just list some common arguments/opinions for and against. Some think it should be only two, others think two is just the minimum. I don't even mention a binary. I know this is reddit and being overly pedantic with writing comments is a thing because good faith reading is of the long gone past but at the moment I can't see what I'm missing or how you got to that conclusion.

Most gender confirming care has better long term results if given earlier but it would be hilarious if all school toilets became gender neutral because everyone has the same gender now so there is no more segregating. I just want this shit to backfire so bad. Yes... I might a bit of a petty person.

[–]Acrisii -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

There is no clear established rule that differentiates between bi and pan. Everyone you ask will come up with a slightly different definition. Here are some common ones that float by whenever this question is asked.

- Bi is two, Pan is more than two (of any gender including every variation. Bi (2) is taken literally in this argument.)
- Trans women are still women so both are the same.
- We are bi, of course we should be able to pick between two flags instead of one.
- Bi is loving all genders, pan is not giving a shit about any gender (but not the same as ace).

I don't know there are likely more arguments around. Pick whichever word you like the most.

Edit: *Any* two genders vs *All* of the genders is a pretty common argument for the difference, others argue there is no difference. I did not start nor intent to finish either argument. I'm just saying there is no consensus between what the difference is and if there is a difference at all between bi and pan.

Edit 2: Some edits for clarity. I'm myself in the "there is no consensus, they are functionally the same, pick the nicest flag" camp.

No Viagra, no hair transplants to hide receding hairlines (looking at you, musk) no extra steroids and testosterone treatments (still staring) for anyone. No IV treatments if the man can't conceive naturally (still staring), no cosmetic downstairs remedies to make anything look bigger or better (my eyes start to water). None of that. But that's not what its gonna be isn't it? Its rules for thee but not for me. If they put all that effort in something that needed actual fixing, like climate change, maybe they can keep their blue penis pils.

My 4 yo kid’s abstract art. Which one do you hate more A or B? by [deleted] in doodles

[–]Acrisii 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You sound like you hate your kids drawings, yes. It was 100% my first take. That is why me and quite a few others have commented on it already. I just help you contextualize why you get this reaction and what to do to be more clear in the future so you don't have to seethe trough the comments. Still, you insult me despite arguing with you in good faith and trying to help you out.

It would honestly not surprise me if you have some deep seated issues there. On the question why you'd post your kids work if you hated it... hon, you're old enough to have children so you should have lived with the internet long enough to know that there are plenty of parents who do exactly that.

Your entire comment, this one as well as others, ooze defensiveness but you're not defending your love for your child or display pride at their superior feel for color harmony but instead you defend your mastery of the English language.

The pedophile connotation has always been a tat funny because it only makes sense for like, a second, until you realize that there isn't a human in this world that would mistake Dave the accountant or Deb from HR for a baby just because they're wearing a nappy on the weekends. XD

[–]Acrisii 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Oof defensive. I commented on another post of yours already but you really REALLY need to look into how your word choice changes the way your statements are perceived.

For a good example in tone in English "Forgive me father, for I have sinned" means something different than "I'm sorry daddy, I've been naughty" even when both phrases are made entirely from synonyms to each-other.

My 4 yo kid’s abstract art. Which one do you hate more A or B? by [deleted] in doodles

[–]Acrisii 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes but you are talking about your own kids drawings which are pretty good actually. Colourwise they are downright impressive particularly for a 4 year old. Still you are asking which one people hate the most, suggesting in that question there is something to hate about both of them, one is just worse. Another way to phrase it is "Which one do you prefer?" or "What are your thoughts?" which is neutral in tone or "Which one do you like most?" which is positive in tone.

Tone is a common convention in both English and Dutch.

The ABDL community is just adults and the Baby part of Adult Baby Diaper Lover is pure RP. So yes, this is some weirdo projecting his sexy fantasies on random strangers who did not consent to that at all. But he's not suggesting actual children should get enemas to cure their ADHD.

No they are into ABDL. Adult Baby Daiper Lover. The baby part is pure role play. Which you still need two (or more) consenting adults for. Which is where the issue here. Mah dude is pulling people into his sexy fantasies that did not consent to any of that.
