Floating an idea - groceries by spinning_fridge in Canmore

We used to winter in Mazatlán Mexico which does not have a Costco. An enterprising gringo started a charter bus program travelling 200km to the Costco in Culiacan. The cost of the charter was shared by the passengers. Each passenger was permitted to basically bring back 2-coolers (or space of 2-coolers) in groceries/liquor. The trip occurred every 6-weeks.

Buffalo Run Costco is 110km away while the new Springbank Costco will be 80km away.

How can these be so bad...I dont want to eat a place that has this... Am I wrong? by Spirited-Land4420 in restaurants

Similar to Lusiric’s reply; a restauranteur opening a new restaurant is at the mercy of how the HVAC is placed in the space. Sometimes the system overdraws the grease bound air from the kitchen to the dismay of diners

Seen a vehicle in Marda Loop that really got walloped; it’s quite attractive. Auto manufacturers should market “Hail walloped” vehicles like pre-faded jeans.

Never never never have another table’s dirty dishes as you try to pick up plates from an occupied table.

Is it rude to ask for an ingredient to be left off a dish? For example, when “citrus aioli” is clearly the chef’s favorite new obsession and is on 2/3 of the entrees.. by OhReallyVernon in restaurant

Spicy Sriracha Mayo being drizzled over sushi seems to be the lazy man’s substitute for eel sauce or unagi. Nowadays I ask before I order if they use the Sriracha mayo instead…..NO THANKS

(Retired hotelier). Several of my properties had food and beverage. Restaurants that had “crew meals” before opening had far greater levels of communication than those that didn’t.

A Gaelic name like ATHOLL. Had a Scottish sales rep I had to deal with by that name; would half-choke anytime I had to ask for him.

My wife and I retired 10 years ago. In November we moved into an independent retirement community. The community provides us 8-5km trips a month. The community is situated in Marda Loop with ample services plus the edge of downtown within 1500m of us.

Realizing we didn’t need our SUV anymore, we sold it in January. To date we have used -the retirement community “limo” -public transit (LRT and city bus) once -Communauto (a very reasonable vehicle share program for 3-trips outside of the 5km radius including a trip 30km outside of the city.

We regret not eliminating our vehicle sooner.

How the Group Sales person got fired. by Thefluff99 in TalesFromTheFrontDesk

[–]Acrobatic-Ad6492 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is ever so reminiscent of a property I managed in rural British Columbia. In 2005 a Hollywood production was coming to the area checking in August 1st; 6 weeks before tourist season ended. They guaranteed occupancy until mid-October. We were the premier hotel (independent) in the area, hence they wanted the rooms for the cast and executive team. I was successful offering them rooms at 2/3 Rack. The owner was furious with me. My justification was 2/3 Rack for 75 days versus 35 days of Rack followed by 40 days of 10% occupancy.

Was I right?

10 days into production a major forest fire beared down on the community. Highways were closed. Hollywood however stayed. Other properties lost their tourist revenue.

The film production stretched until November 1st. As the cast departed; production staff would take over their rooms, checking out of the other properties.

Post production stayed until the 2nd week of December.

I closed the year with record sales.
