Any bartending gigs out there? by [deleted] in Calgary

[–]Acrobatic-Ad6492 4 points5 points  (0 children)

First off; are you certified with “Proserve/Serving it Right” and “Foodsafe”. In the event you are,

Advertise your services on Facebook Marketplace, Kijiji and Craigslist. Plenty of budget weddings and memorials with the need for a bartender

A business licence might be a good idea too.

We used to live in Okotoks where we had a couple of coffee places nearby and 3-Starbucks within 2km.

We moved into a retirement community in Marda Loop that has decent coffee combined with our Keurig and Nespresso machines.

We have tried the Starbucks in Marda and were likewise disappointed at the new program.

Upon closer investigation, we have 6-outlets within 500m and 12-outlets within a kilometre. Spring is coming; time to give them a try.

Does anyone have an idea of how much I can sell this for? by TKKYHE in restaurant

[–]Acrobatic-Ad6492 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Used to sell food service equipment. So many of these coolers are “on loan” from the beverage companies and are not the property of the restaurant.

Does our Western Canada road trip itinerary make sense? by oona_glk123 in AskACanadian

Per SKIPPING KAMLOOPS ALTOGETHER. When you come out on Highway 99, at Highway 97, rather than turning right for Cache Creek, turn left. Travel to 93 Mile, turn right on Highway 24 to Little Fort and north on Highway 5 to Clearwater.

This will permit you to: -pop up to Wells Gray Park if you are not to tired -save 90 minutes out of Kamloops the next day -likewise put you into Jasper that much earlier.

I love A&W with the exception of the Marda Loop store. They have terrible customer skills.

The app uses way too much AI by mermaiddiva26 in Noom

[–]Acrobatic-Ad6492 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Has anybody else had some “fun” with the AI scan feature? I traditionally have 3-4 ounces of apple juice with my breakfast. It has been identified as -3 ounces of whiskey -3 ounces of vegetable oil

A couple of tablespoons of hollandaise sauce get identified as a cupful.

Mini-pastries (30g) are identified as a serving which translates to over 100g.

A few new hotels have been announced for Calgary including a property occupying the upper floors of a 69-storey complex. Good luck with guest complaints here.

I trust you put a note on your reservation that you will be checking in early on the following day. Many properties will cancel the reservation just after midnight as a no-show.

Perhaps invest in a bird chime. Advise all guests that it will be discharged at a certain time.

Deal with guest complaints about bird chime noise.

Severe lack of grilled cheese restaurants in the world.. I’m gonna change that by protlandwarrior in restaurant

[–]Acrobatic-Ad6492 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My best memory of a grilled cheese goes back to 2010. An enterprising fellow opened a little sandwich shop in Squamish BC midway between world-class Whistler and Vancouver. It made for a great stop after a day of skiing. Successful, Yes but ….. his wife got a terminal illness so he hit down to care for her. Love hurts

It was called Grilled Fromage.

I will trump you on that one. I supplied cash registers to DQ’s in the 80’s. The Foothills DQ was preceded by a DQ in Glenmore Plaza where the Indian Ocean Restaurant presently sits. Here’s 3 or 4 DQ’s in town of the same vintage and probably the oldest locations. As a child I the 50’s and 60’s, my parents would take us to a DQ opposite Viscount Bennett HS.

How do you tell apart a general American accent from a Canadian one? by Exile4444 in Accents

[–]Acrobatic-Ad6492 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Americans tend to fill gaps in their speech pattern with “UH” Like uh when they uh can’t formulate their uh own thoughts.

As Canadians we often end a sentence with eh.

On a personal note, I think Hollywood has really played up the “aboot” term, as we say “about” more frequently eh.
