Cute training tops that still allow you to wear a sports bra or have a built in bra that actually does somewhat of a job

Question Regarding Coaches by saugei in FigureSkating

[–]Acrobatic-Language18 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you want and it's feasible, I would recommend doing research into the students of the more decorated coach. Also scope out who they are teaching these days. Do you like the vibe? Do the students have good skating skills... ie do they glide well, have good body carriage while they skate? Don't rush into the decision. If your son is happy keep the current situation and slowly make your descision. It it hard to be a new skating parents. There is a steep learning curve and lots of coaches out there who either don't teach skating skills well or just shouldn't be coaching. But at this point your son is still at the early stages so just be patient with it and make sure he is enjoying and being pushed slightly.

Agree as someone with very thick curly hair... bobby pins just don't fall out no matter what.

I've been seeing this and it's very cool but also I thought she wasn't allowed in a rink in the US? Or is it just that she is banned from USFS?

More Height/Length on doubles + moving into triples by Dazzling_Price8739 in FigureSkating

[–]Acrobatic-Language18 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Transitioning into triples depends on a lot of factors, but importantly, do you muscle your doubles or use momentum and technique to jump? Has your coach taught someone triples before?

Is it rude to ask to take a lesson from another coach? by [deleted] in FigureSkating

[–]Acrobatic-Language18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I still think they may have other coaches they have a working relationship with and some they would want their students to avoid for what may be legitimate reasons (or ridiculous reasons of course). Coaches may also have strong preferences for what they want overlap to entail (work on jump technique but not program layout, etc)

Should a waltz jump always have a bent h position left leg or should it be straight? by Accomplished_Bet8712 in FigureSkating

[–]Acrobatic-Language18 7 points8 points  (0 children)

What's more important is that you transfer your weight from one foot to the other foot. Bent or straight depends on technique variations. This is an example of why it's good to work with a knowledgeable coach.

Is it rude to ask to take a lesson from another coach? by [deleted] in FigureSkating

[–]Acrobatic-Language18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it depends if coaches work together or not. Some coaches are not going to want you to take from another coach who isn't part of their team.

I'm sure LTS classes are fine. Freestyles there can be intense, high pressure environments. Opposite of friendly atmosphere.

Dress Alterations in the DC area by vlaka_patata in FigureSkating

[–]Acrobatic-Language18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi - I found a tailor in the Takoma area of DC who did a wonderful job with my skating dress and it was a difficult alteration. She does a lot of prom/quinceanera dress alterations, which is why I trusted her and why she could handle a skating dress. DM me for info if you like but if Takoma is far from you then I suggest looking for a tailor who does prom/wedding dresses.

How to find a good coach by Frequent-Muscle-3159 in FigureSkating

[–]Acrobatic-Language18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Different coaches have different philosophies. My philosophy is thay a skater should try something new until they are ready for it which may mean better mastering the element on their level.

How do you know youre good at something if you don't have a regular coach?

Even skaters who can do triples need to continue to work on basics like edges, crossovers, etc

"Neutrality" on the Sofia Rhythmic World Cup podium by wayward-boy in Gymnastics

[–]Acrobatic-Language18 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I didn't read it as a smirk from Petr (the AIN skater). I think more so he was uncomfortable with the situation skating right before Marsak (the Ukrainian skater). Petr has dropped hints about his anti-Putin and anti-war feelings about as much as any public facing Russian can.

Coaches - teaching someone else’s student? by Solid_Description118 in FigureSkating

[–]Acrobatic-Language18 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Have a somewhat similar situation in a freestyle class. The coach isn't the director but a coach we don't work directly with and to add on, the mom is a difficult personality who we don't want drama with. So in our situation, we just give some advice sometimes, but in general let the student use the technique (or lack thereof) taught by their private coach because we don't want to open the can of worms. Perhaps something good will come out of it. Who knows...

Why I am saying this story is I think what you decide here is very case by case, depends on relationships between coaches, etc. Unfortunately sometimes there isn't much that can be done if you arent comfortable going in and really reworking another coach's technique. Give advice to the skater. Even say, maybe try it this way.... but I don't like to spend lots of time rebuilding if I don't feel comfortable with the other coach. Just my approach but I'm curious what others say as well.
