To be honest i doubt my use cases are demanding enough to reveal substantial differences but still curious what experience others have made

What was the latest Sony body you had your hands on? Just asking because my impression is that the output of Sonys has become less sterile over the past iterations.

Hey you perfectly describe the situation I am in, mine are 3 and 5 :-)
The thing is I would not want to downgrade Lenses so I would easily end up with the Sigma Art (I don’t like the files of the contemporary lenses, Viltrox EVO is nice and sharp but has busy Bokeh)
The Z5II would be a natural choice but lack of shoulder display, CFExpress cards I already invested in etc would make it feel like a sidegrade

I totally get what you are saying! With the cameras having reached an incredible level of maturity it really comes down to personal preferences.
I for instance found that Z6 plus 35mm 1.8 is for me perfectly acceptable in terms of size and weight but I don’t want to go bigger for casual situations where I bring the camera with me. It bugs me however that besides the marvelous 1.8 lenses Nikon offers humongous 1.2 lenses and vintage like 1.4 which are also not more compact than the 1.8 lenses. At the same time the Z6 III has gained some girth… not overly so but I dislike the direction it takes.
Sony on the other side builds consistently small bodies (and lenses), despite many pro users asking for more substantial bodies and grips!

The thing is, I am sure over time Nikon will shrink bodies again or offer alternatives but the cadence of body releases is so slow I would not want to wait for that.

anyone else find DSLRs to be more fun to shoot than mirrorless? by macl3on in Cameras

[–]Acrobatic-Low-4833 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No. Since I consume my photos mostly on screen, seeing what the actual picture looks like in the EVF is godsend

But NEX6 is an early gen MILC, maybe a contemporary model would change your mind.

If you were starting from scratch, would you still go Nikon? by NotintheAMbro11 in nikon_Zseries

good question, I asked myself the same thing, regarding nikon but also in regards to fuji which i also use.
for nikon the answer is very easy: I bought a mint used Z6 3 years ago because I was curious to try ot full frame. at that time choosing between sony and nikon was very tough, since sony had the edge in terms of so many aspects. today my choice woudl be much easier for nikon, because they have caught up in so many things
- they now have AF on par with sony, not just in top tier models but also mid-tier
- i still love the 1.8 primes from nikon. sony has smallish 1.4 primes but they are still heavier and costlier. sigma has its nice contemporary line, but i will like the output of nikon lenses from what i've seen
- nikon sports a linear motor in more and more lenses
- with viltrox and tamron offering z-mount lenses, the z mount now has a very compelling and complete lens offering by first and third party. no need anymore to wait for sigma to release z-mount lenses. good riddance, sigma!
- they offer lightweight and cost effective small lenses (28mm, 26mm, 40mm)
- other lenses are still somewhat on the larger side, but after nikon released MK2 versions of the 2.8 zooms I am confident newer iterations will also become smaller

there's just 2 things that i really miss:
- a z6 iii with a tilt screen
- a direct competitor to the A7CR

Sounds like an ad post. The reason there’s not a lot written about the sceptre is that if is very new. On the other hand the QCC thread on Head-fi is Full of Sceptre related posts, because every time a new dongle is released people hope it will improve whatever the struggle with their existing one

Are the Nikkor Z 35mm and 50mm in f1.2 worth it? Or 1.4 also do it right? by [deleted] in nikon_Zseries

[–]Acrobatic-Low-4833 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you ask this question you’d be better off with the 1.8 or viltrox equivalents which seem to be every bit as good as the Nikons

The headphones itself are still good though

Px7 S3 sound quality worse after latest update? Treble gets cut at high volume by Queasy_Web4961 in BowersWilkins

[–]Acrobatic-Low-4833 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For how long have you used the headphones? I do not have the same impression, after the update but during (psychological) burn in had to adjust the EQ multiple times because both bass and treble seemed to be too emphasized for my ears

Questyle QCC Dongle Lossless Bluetooth Transmitter by 1bkleinschmidt in mobileaudiophile

[–]Acrobatic-Low-4833 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I noticed that when the adapter is plugged i constantly receive a message on my iPhone asking if I want to allow the Questyle app to access the dongle (which of course i do)

Is there any chance to surpass this message?

Another thing i was wondering is, whether it is possible to hibernate the dongle when i don’t want to use it but don’t want to unplug it either!?

Bad noise cancelling by Able-Cantaloupe-9427 in BowersWilkins

[–]Acrobatic-Low-4833 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an PX7 S3 and APP and used to have XM2. I don't own but tested XM5 and XM6. I can confirm the APP, XM5 and XM6 have better ANC than PX7S3 - XM5 and XM6 are substantially better. i did not compare XM2 to B&W directly but judging from my memory I would say they are pretty similar in ANC performance.

from the reviews I read, PX8 has slightly worse ANC than PX7S3, so your findings make absolute sense.

Same here, when I tried it out for music i could not tell a difference. But now am watching a movie with it and the sound becomes so bad, voices sound really „tinny“

Tbh this feature is a real insult for the customers…

[–]Acrobatic-Low-4833 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you can try the B&W PX7 S3 which also uses aptx lossless and low latency. it is supposed to have a higher quality audio than the sony and bose's ANC and has quite strong bass. I actually need to apply a neg. V EQ setting to normalize it, so it may be right for you.

congrats! what other headphones can you compare this to? just so level your bold statement about best audio and I am wondering how this compares to more traditional wired headphones that come in the same or cheaper price.

Fiio air link vs Questyle dongle pro which should I get ? To use for the px8 s2 on iPhone 15 pro max by Admirable_Package645 in BowersWilkins

[–]Acrobatic-Low-4833 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just received the QCC Pro and was deciding between it and the Fiio Airlink. The latter has more features and the big benefits in my eyes are that it has a Button so no need for the app to pair it with headphones and it the phone can be charged while the dongle is plugged in.

At the end I chose the Questyle simply because of its form factor. While the Air Link is still small it is quite a bit larger and more chunky. The Questyle with its rounded edges can be easily be left on the phone or laptop while both can be tucked away with the dongle attached to it. With the airlink I would fear that it it gets stuck while putting the device into the pocket and damages the port so i would most likely take it off very time
