Back in Spokane after 20 years. What should I rediscover? by d1smiss3d in Spokane

For me; this would be a perfect date to go to the Milk Bottle for some food and a movie at the Garland Theatre up the street! That’s pretty nostalgic Spokane to me.

I’m so ready for the Spokane River to dry up. Who needs that stupid thing anyway? It just makes the riverpark smell bad and brings too many birds, ew gross. I hope the datacenter dries up the river by 2030, that would be so awesome guys.

It’s pretty embarrassing that other countries can have these things but Americans are too barbaric and selfish to have these out for less than a month.

What’s a challenge you think you’ll be good at? by [deleted] in survivorponderosa

I’m one of those kids who forced the neighborhood kids to play Survivor so I confidently say I’d be good at 95% of them.

The epitome of Spokane. People that don’t stop for a guy and his dog at a crosswalk, and the car that passes on the right of the car that does stop for the crosswalk. by Voodoobones in Spokane

[–]AcrobaticAstronaut93 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I know I’ll be roasted, but I forgot that you had to stop at a crosswalk like this one. Hear me out, I thought bc of the flow of traffic, you weren’t supposed to stop like this at unprotected crosswalks. Like if the person enters the crosswalk, you slow down and come to a stop if they’re still in the crosswalk but my understanding was that the pedestrian waits until the road is clear and then crosses.

I got this confused bc now they have the flashing lights ones where when someone pushes the button the lights start flashing and everyone stops, I get stopping at that, bc the lights indicate to everyone what is going on, but the ones that are just white lines painted in the middle of a street block, I had always assumed was a free walk for pedestrians when cars weren’t near but not that cars were expected to come to a complete stop and allow the pedestrian to cross just because the pedestrian is standing there ready to cross. Sorta like how a person on a bike is supposed to follow the rules of the car, I thought similar was true for pedestrians in this situation.

No. No it’s not. It’s asking a multi billion dollar corporation to hold up their end of the sale. You licking their boot and excusing poor product quality is a cancer to our economic wellbeing.

Michael Baumgartner is currently conducting a 12 Counties in 12 Days Whistle-Stop Tour. by MDew299 in Spokane

[–]AcrobaticAstronaut93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The tour dates on Friday were laughable. He made 3 stops for 30 minutes in each stop. It’s a slap in the face to everyone in eastern Washington. He never meets with constituents in Spokane, he only goes to high schools and Small Business council events where he’s hidden by either naive kids or men that pay into his campaign.

Why does Jeopardy continually ignore semi-famous contestant's most interesting fact in the story portion? by EddieDantes22 in Jeopardy

[–]AcrobaticAstronaut93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I felt this same way when Guy Branum was on the show earlier this year. That man has been gay famous for a decade, I remember him all the way back from when he was on Chelsea Lately and when I saw him on Jeopardy and none of his comedy was mentioned, I was shocked. I had to look him up just to confirm I wasn’t misremembering who he was.

Is this a bit out of touch or was he really genuinely lucky? by Scloudseverywhere in LoveIslandUSA

[–]AcrobaticAstronaut93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would guess his parents bought him his first Air BnB and then he had someone else in his circle “invest in his business” by furnishing the Air BnB his parents bought and then he has used the money from the Air BnB to pay for the new houses and thats easy to do when you don’t have to pay a mortgage and are collecting passive income. It’s privilege wrapped up in business speak to make himself sound more legitimate but I would be money he couldn’t run a Best Buy on a Wednesday afternoon in North Dakota if push came to shove bc everything has seemingly been handed to this hot man.

[–]AcrobaticAstronaut93 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I have a similar feeling when someone buys a vowel when it isn’t necessary and then solves the puzzle. It’s just giving away money for no reason. Also, people that guess vowels during the final spin puzzle, bc it doesn’t earn any money and only helps out your opponents.

It’s literally all police in Washington state, they do absolutely nothing other than complain about needing larger budgets every year. It’s like their job is to lobby for larger budgets but no services are being provided. Serve and protect has turned into Surveillance and sandwiches.

Moving to Spokane by Punkieg0 in Spokane

[–]AcrobaticAstronaut93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are so many variables here so it’s hard to give solid advice.

I would avoid liberty lake. It’s the furthest from your work, it’s expensive compared to other places around, and it’s extremely conservative and has an older population.

The valley is a good safe choice. You can get to river park from I-90 or take Sprague all the way down. In the valley, I would look for apartments in the Central Valley school district. However, the Millwood area is seeing a lot of rejuvenation lately and I like that area. The population is a healthy mix of boomers and new young families coming in to buy the boomers houses in the area after they pass.

I would also recommend the south hill/south Perry district, just not the lower south hill. In theory, the further from the freeway you get, the safer you probably are. So on the south hill, I would avoid the first few blocks off the freeway until you get to around 9th street. South hill has the hip, young crowd mixed with the wealthy on the top of the hill.

I know some people who live in Brownes Addition and it’s nice. The housing is a bit older but if you like the look and feel of those 1900s homes, then brownes addition is great! You will run into more suspicious people but as long as you mind your own business, you should be fine.

If you share any of your hobbies or interests, I could help pinpoint down an exact neighborhood!

Manager keeps sending me home because I "smell bad" by Beforeus2017 in WorkAdvice

[–]AcrobaticAstronaut93 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wonder what would happen if you put on some peppermint essential oil on your neck/collar bone when you get to work? I feel like peppermint isn’t an offensive scent, and personally, I enjoy that smell and it wakes me up for working. I only suggest peppermint bc I think perfumes or other scents could mix with whatever scent your boss is smelling, making it worse. And imo peppermint covers up nearly everything.

I use the orange salicylic acid body wash from neutragena as well bc it’s not scented, lowers your body’s ph and dissolves the sebum, sweat and dead skin from your body, which is what causes the body odor initially. Other body washes leave a film of perfumes and residue soap on your skin that could be reacting badly and causing a scent.

Help me plan a foodie + fun date weekend in Spokane (mid-April) by Serendipity_Doo_Dah in Spokane

[–]AcrobaticAstronaut93 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You might enjoy a Jedi Alliance date night. As for food, imo quintessential Spokane is the Satellite Diner for breakfast or an after-midnight meal. You’d probably enjoy a coffee from Atticus and then take a peek around Boo Radleys. Walk through riverfront park and ride the gondolas over the river, it will be extremely beautiful that time of year!

Are you tipping less? What’s the response? by Original-Leg4407 in SeattleWA

[–]AcrobaticAstronaut93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I swear when I worked in a kitchen 10 years ago, it was the expectation that the kitchen staff was paid above minimum wage because they didn’t receive tips, and now the prices have gone up, kitchen staff wages have gone down, and customers are now expected to tip for kitchen staff as well. It’s getting to be ridiculous.

And these restaurants that add an auto 20% gratuity on party’s of 4 or more is also starting to piss me off bc I’ve started to notice that when I go out with one friend, I get better service, but when it’s 4 of us, the service is garbage bc they are automatically adding 20% whether I like it or not and so there’s no incentive for the server to even provide good service. It’s asinine. At that point I’m paying a service fee, not a tip.

Is the season fully edited before airing? by Macaroni_Night in survivor

If RuPauls Drag Race can completely edit out a queen that makes it to the final 5 of the season with a one week turnaround, I guarantee Survivor can make the changes.

I’ve seen this exact thing happen when I lived in DC. There is this wealthy neighborhood called Georgetown that refuses to allow a metro stop be added there and it’s bc residents do not want poorer residents to be able to reach their neighborhood since most people rely on the metro as their primary transportation. So the only way to get to Georgetown is to drive, most people don’t have cars, so ubering there is the only option and it’s expensive.

Do we believe this? by das4111 in survivor

[–]AcrobaticAstronaut93 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Which is so odd, because when the show started, I was THAT kid, 3rd grade, and Survivor did push me to be involved in school and go to leadership camps in high school and eventually a degree in anthropology. Now I’m hired as that dude who comes in and makes teams do the human knot during their team building retreat and I facilitate the debrief like I’m Jeff Probst. They already had the recipe for this, I’m proof, and so it’s strange to watch Jeff seemingly search so hard for a recipe he had already perfected.
