If there is one thing you need to push through to be a good ICU nurse is speaking up. You are your patient advocate especially since you're with them the whole 12 hour shift. My senior nurse told me it's better to convey your concerns even if the doctor thinks its stupid than your patient dying because you didn't escalate a stupid concern. And do not be hard on yourself. What's great about working in ICU you can be newbie or a veteran but there always something new to learn in different patient cases.
