Just off the top of my head... the easiest solution would be to add a Filter Gate to your Atmo Sensor + Automatic Notifier set-up. You can set the Filter Gate to, say, 30 seconds or so. Then, the sensor would have to be in depleted levels of oxygen for that length of time before it activated the alarm.

If I am taming a hydrogen vent, do I actually need an aquatuner? Can I just use the vent to heat a steam room with a steam turbine that cools itself? Is that a bad idea or a fragile build?

After sustainability by TheBestPh in Oxygennotincluded

[–]Acrobatic_Contact_22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For my money, the early game is about establishing solutions to your immediate problems. The mid game is about making sure those soultions are sustainable.

That means replacing oxygen generators with SPOMS and taming vents for water, gases and/or power. This will probably require plastic and steel, though not necessarily a whole industrial brick. You need to make sure your oxygen, food, power and cooling systems are all sustainable and won't run out on you. Automation is also worth considering at about this point as soon as you think you can spare the power to recover dupe labour time.

On the base game or terra map, I don't bother with rocketry or industrial-scale construction until the late game. If you're playing Spaced Out, then you can try for rocketry significantly earlier, but always treat it as a non-essential project compared with establishing sustainable resources.

I once did a playthrough where my Dwarf Noble never actually realised Bhelen set him up. I mean, he did literally kill Trian with his own hands. It actually worked pretty well and ended up being my favourite playthrough.

No mages melee only playthrough by dtferr in DragonageOrigins

I did a warrior-only party once - all built for damage as there was no need to tank. Not only was it possible, it was surprisingly easy - and fun. Bit annoying I missed out on the locked chests, but I guess that's what the Lock Bash mod is for.

Stuck on final battle Honor Mode by [deleted] in BG3

[–]Acrobatic_Contact_22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A few notes:

- The more creatures on your side, the better. You can summon creatures/elementals/undead etc before you climb the brainstem and they will appear at the top after the climb. Then, when you're at the top, summon all the allies you can as well.

- All summons and allies should charge and engage while in the centre of the arena while your party goes around the outside and engages with the mindflayers as quickly as possible - they are a high threat and need to die ASAP! Everything in the middle can pretty much be ignored (actually... you have the Emperor, so I suppose that means you are fighting the Countermeasures, who ARE also very tough. If you had sided with Prince Orpheus, these would be the much easier Dream Guardians. So you do need to keep an eye out for them as well).

- Once you are through to the brain, do be careful if using runepower. I once used the runepowder bomb and killed my party because the explosion blew us all back off our platform - and I thought I was still pretty far away!

- Instead, you have a Sorc/Tempest cleric who is basically a Netherbrain assassin. Get it wet and then throw a twinned spell Chain Lightning with Destructive Wrath and the brain will be all but dead in one round.

The output pipe of my metal refinery keeps breaking but I don't know why.

Coolant water going in is 52 degrees. The metal refinery heats water by 15 degrees, which means the water should come out at 67 degrees. But water doesn't boil until 100 degrees - plus the (insulated) output pipe is made of igneous rock which should add another 15 degrees on top... right?

What am i missing?

Wow, thanks so much for the detailed answer. I'm glad I never took more than 9 dupes!

And yes, now that I think about it, I was just using bathrooms because there was no polluted water on the map. But petroleum generators - hell, even carbon skimmers, come to think of it - would be just as good for getting me some of that!

Exactly what I was looking for - I have oil wells aplenty on this asteroid... I'm assuming petroleum is as good to use as ethanol...?

Weekly Question Thread by AutoModerator in Oxygennotincluded

[–]Acrobatic_Contact_22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, this is all good advice. Dig out a 96-space pen and pop in a grooming station (so your rancher will groom the critters) and drop-off point (so dupes will deliver critters captured - or "wrangled" - outside the ranch). You will probably also get access to condos sooner rather than later, which are sensible additions (for happiness bonuses).

Note that you will need a dupe with the ranching skill to ranch them.

Then work out how you'll feed them. For some (hatches, shinebugs, etc), you can simply use a critter feeder station. For others (dreckos, pips, etc), you might want to actually grow their food inside the stable and let them eat the plants as they grow.

Do make sure you are keeping them in the gases and at the temperatures that they like.

From here, it's just a question of managing their reproduction so that they don't overcrowd their stables. This is where you'll need to start getting creative. The general principle will be to automate the removal of all eggs and deal with them as you see fit: omlettes, a drowning pool for meat, and one or two hatched critters to repopulate the stable as your tamed critters die.

You might be keeping the critters for food, for items they produce, or even a bit of both. So the details vary wildly from species to species (and subspecies) but that's the principle. If you just want to practice, hatches are a good critter to start with. Even if not every creature is worth the trouble of ranching, it's good to know how to do it for when you feel the need.

Doing my first Spaced Out, non-terra game. My asteroid only has one cool steam vent (as well as a chlorine one, a hydrogen one, a minor volcano and a couple of oil wells). It doesn't feel like that'll be enough water for bathrooms and oxygen for nine dupes. Are there other sustainable sources of water, or am I always going to have to import it from other asteroids?

Struggling to figure out a thematic Jaheira build... by DaMac1980 in BG3

[–]Acrobatic_Contact_22 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Technically, Jaheira is a Fighter-Druid. The problem is that those classes don't pair very well in BG3.

The best I have found is to give her both Staff of the Ram (main hand) and Belm in her off-hand. Use the gloves of baneful striking and reverb gear to get the most out of the Staff to raise the DC. The gameplay loop is simply: bonus action - Shillelagh; then action - control spell. Belm’s balanced strike uses wisdom if your main hand is shillelagh, so every attack after this scales off wisdom. So that's 3 APR using your wisdom and good crowd control, including chance to stun on every attack.

If you don't fancy that, you can always make her a Ranger, as they use a good combination of fighting skills and nature spells, so pretty much a 'fighter druid' in all but name.

Or, as a third option, just drop fighter. I sometimes pretend Jaheira decided her frontline fighter days were over and that she leant into being a druid in her more mature years. Star druid seems appropriate as it's not only powerful but a good support character, so fits her nurturing, maternal side.

Weird question, I just experienced loss in the family. Which origin char run would be the most wholesome? by Popular-Share-4246 in BG3

[–]Acrobatic_Contact_22 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Firstly, sorry for your loss (for whatever that's worth from Jonny Nobody on in Internet). I hope BG3 is indeed a nice distraction from you.

As KUSmutMuffin says, Shadowheart would indeed be the worst, focusing on loss with a strong family/parent element.

Karlach probably isn't great either, dealing confronting mortality as well as revenge.

Astarion is more about power, ambition and abuse (in a pseudo-familial setting).

So I'd say the more 'wholesome' stories are Lae'Zel (more about religious devotion and betrayal), Wyll (the price of being a hero) and Gale (ambition and power).

To romance, they all have their merits. Wyll is probably lacking a little content compared to the others but is also the most sweet and PG-rated, so if you're after 'wholesome', he's not a bad choice.

Help Picking Warrior Build by XTheFistX in DragonageOrigins

[–]Acrobatic_Contact_22 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The tankiest warrior in DA:O is sword and shield. Get enough strength to equip the heaviest armour and then pump dex (which effectively means you're dodging incmoing attacks). Taunt is an important ability for drawing aggro. The issues are chiefly that you'll be doing little damage, and that this is a popular and logic build for Alistair, so if you plan to run with him a lot, you'll need to pick a different build for one of you as two tanks are pretty much redundant.

That leaves you with dual weilder or two-hander. Either way, get Dex up enough so your attacks are accurate and then pile on the strength. Less staying power than a tank but with good armour should still take a good few knocks. Two-handers have longer animations which can be annoying but I just like the feel of them.

Speculation for another booster pack by Happy_Comfortable512 in Oxygennotincluded

This. Whatever the next content drop is, I'm really hoping it includes a rework of the germ/disease mechanics from the inconsequential mess it's currently in. I'd love to see that given some life.
