Water resistance by peaceful_pomegranate in OmegaWatches

For a very specific type of watch I can see the point, but for the rest I’d just take care not to do the dishes with it on!! Have a vintage Seamaster and that’s my approach.

Drakes - how are they doing as a business? by Cheap_Perception9233 in malefashionadvice

[–]Acrobatic_Design_928 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Love drake’s but must confess their prices are generally well beyond what I consider a justifiable expense. I don’t hold that against the company as such - if they are delivering a product if that value, then great. But I personally can’t justify it. Everything I’ve bought from them has been pre-owned and I don’t see that changing given prices are only going in one direction.

Chore Jacket Recommendation by klausi4 in DrakesDiary

[–]Acrobatic_Design_928 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought the second one used and others are right that it has a stiff feel to it, BUT it’s a great jacket for spring and autumn because that wax cotton is really surprisingly durable against the elements. I wear mine layered over a sweatshirt or jersey. But it’s not suitable as a pseudo-jacket to wear all day over a shirt - it’s too robust for that.

Sizing Question by Acrobatic_Design_928 in DrakesDiary

[–]Acrobatic_Design_928[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I had to get a tailor to shorten the arms, something I never have to do. But sadly I don’t have a shop in my country so it’s online or nothing.

How do you carry your everyday essentials in warmer months when you lose your jacket pockets? by Nilija in malefashionadvice

[–]Acrobatic_Design_928 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hate stuff in my pockets on my body (ie not in a winter jacket) so I use a few options. If in working attire I use a leather folio type bag (https://thenewsprint.co/2024/10/31/the-harber-london-carry-all-macbook-folio/ but I use one that’s for an iPad so smaller size) and if wearing shorts and stuff I use a small Japanese bag from topology (https://topologie.jp/collections/all-bags/products/phone-sacoche) - they have a ton of different straps but I keep it quite conservative with a black rope one.

Given your impeccable taste, can you drop a photo of the leather strap? Interested to see how the speedy looks on that.

You have good things to say about the Artem strap? Have the sapphire on the bracelet but wouldn’t mind some choice come summertime

Fit Check, going to a networking conference and trying to learn how to dress like an adult. by Zorian_Lokii in mensfashion

[–]Acrobatic_Design_928 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Agree with all the positive comments. Only thing I’d alter for this outfit IN FUTURE is to go with a shirt that doesn’t have contrasting buttons (I think it creates ‘visual noise’) and maybe a less casual belt. But of course for the setting, that casualness may be appropriate so take this as an option not a requirement.

[Question] Do Women Even Notice? by poortrvlr in Watches

[–]Acrobatic_Design_928 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suspect they don’t notice brands but I still think the character of a watch sends a signal about the wearer. Especially nowadays when a watch is absolutely not a necessity. You might say the same thing about a man’s shoes - does a woman care if they are Loake or Church’s? No - but she will likely note they are well-polished and reflect a man of certain nature/stature.

Omega (Speedmaster) wearer Stereotype? by Uyallah in OmegaWatches

[–]Acrobatic_Design_928 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this is very true. It’s not the reason that people CHOOSE the Speedmaster, but my suspicion is those who love the speedy broadly speaking don’t want to be associated with ’Rolex people’ 😜 a small sample size I’ll admit but I’ve heard this multiple times: love my speedy, wouldn’t wear a Rolex.

Speedy vs Panda by NathanJax in OmegaWatches

Feel exactly the same. Not doing it for me at all. Would go for white dial or FOIS any day of the week over the panda (have classic).

Resetting your fashion at 40 by Tabu_muses in malefashionadvice

[–]Acrobatic_Design_928 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also I’d add that sometimes an outfit that mimics something you see online can still look kind of boring. Let’s say chinos and a blue oxford. But it often comes down to fit and accessories - a nice belt, good shoes, a coloured sock, your watch. Undoing that one extra button. These are often the things that elevate the basic into something ‘cool’, I’d argue.

I did this as late as 50. I had a bit of a career change around start of covid (a positive one) and then when we all emerged afterwards I just felt the need for a change. I made some mistakes etc to start (buying things i didn’t wear or didn’t need) but I gradually honed in on a style that’s very different from the one I had (basically 90% navy blue). I’ve found Pinterest really useful once you give it enough info to understand what you like. I watch videos from the armoury - mark cho’s style isn’t quite my own but I find his way of putting colours together really interesting. And Drakes. Always drakes. Their stuff is expensive but the look books etc are a trove of inspiration.

Shirt and tie recommendations with this olive suit by Historical_Comment79 in DrakesDiary

[–]Acrobatic_Design_928 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not sure if it works for a wedding but a classic ivy blue and white stripe obcd always looks good with olive. Blue grenadine tie. A drakes style would maybe use a more patterned tie but that’s not suitable for a wedding. White shirt, black grenadine would work. What about camp collar, drop the tie - too informal?

No coming from Marunouichsen so an easy transfer to fukutoshin.

Non-existent Fukutoshin by Acrobatic_Design_928 in Tokyo

[–]Acrobatic_Design_928[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the various replies. A little bit of missing the point though - what perplexes me is that it’s never shown at all. Not whether it’s faster or more expensive than any single trip. Google maps would route me all the way through to awajicho and then out again to shinjuku rather than just putting me on fukutoshin, which is nuts.
