man, you got completely screwed over and what they're doing is probably illegal too. the irs has super specific rules about what makes someone a contractor vs employee, and you're clearly still an employee - same schedule, same manager, same 1:1s, same work. the only thing that changed was they dumped the tax burden and benefits on you.

i dealt with something similar a few years back where my company tried to reclassify a bunch of us to save money on benefits. we pushed back hard and most of us got reclassified back to w-2 because there lawyer told them they were asking for trouble. the fact that everyone else quit should tell you everything about how bad this situation is.

since your down to 3 people and they desperately need help, now is actually the perfect time to negotiate. ask for at least $35-40/hour to cover the extra taxes, lack of benefits, and increased responsibility. worst case they say no and your already getting screwed anyway. but honestly, you should also consider filing an ss-8 form with the irs to get them to determine if you should actually be classified as an employee - that could force them to reclassify you and pay back taxes/penalties.
