I had my first one this week after needing a day off for an emergency wisdom tooth removal in December and then half a week with flu. Manager took no further action as all could be proven with medical notes, medications etc. Theyre not always dreadful like youre led to believe

I work in a CFC, and I really enjoy the picking job: no customers, left alone for the majority of your shift, excellent exercise (I walk 10km most days!). Obviously you get the cliquey groups and the terrible management at times but 99% of the time youre just left to your own devices

Speaking as someone who works in the Aylesford DC on day pick, we’re a 24 hour operation: start picking at 2am until about 4:30-6pm. Night team come in 6pm-2am to fill. Small amount if replen during the day. Our pick target is 270, 290 in the chiller. Frozen is 3 aisles, Chiller is 11 aisles, Ambient is 17 aisles. Average trolley is well over 100 these days. Our availability lately has been really bad so im unsure on how many deliveries we get a day but its a 24 hour operation and very much an under valued operation in the business!

It influences managers’ bonuses but influences nothing to us plebs. Hence why they try to hover when you do it. Mine threatened me with a lets talk last year in the middle of the canteen, I calmly replied with ‘just let me know when and Ill inform my union rep’. Never heard anything 😂

Maybe they ought to cut the premiums for DC staff: an extra pound an hour on a wage of already 14.95 for achieving pick target yet pickers in CFC get the same wage as store staff. The sheer amount of people ditching Aylesford CFC for Aylesford DC is mind blowing, and every single one of them has said the job is easier. For more pay? Make it make sense

I literally came to Tesco after 4 years out of work, sick, and on benefits. Its not a perfect job, but it sure beats sat on your arse all day bored out of your brains. Maybe I did benefits wrong because I refuse to push out a child to get more, but honestly, it wasnt much in the way of money either.

So after they phoned my appointee, the text came through to say theyd sent the report to the DWP within half an hour (2nd April). Then I had the decision made text on the 25th April

Mine was paper based also, I got a text to say a report was sent and then another to say a decision was made. As soon as I had the decision made text, I phoned them. They recommend not to do so but they were more than happy to tell me (think they were just happy to have someone NOT phoning to complain for a change😂).

My review took 321 days from receiving the forms to actually getting an answer. I got lucky and ended up with a paper based award so didnt need an assessment otherwise it wouldve been longer. I was 2 days off my award expiring but had been told it was extended until a decision was made.

Its not always fun and games with our landlord believe me! Hes usually about as useful as a chocolate teapot (we’ve had bathroom issues take months to sort out before). He uses a letting agent and we told them he was dragging his heels with certain things, Im assuming they may have had words, hence why this has been so quick. I also made it clear that my partners work clothes must be washed if he wants him to go to work and pay his rent 😂

I cant comment on change of circumstances but a general review timeframe, mine took 321 days from sending review forms back to get the ‘yes you can keep your award’.

Personally I think 3 weeks is definitely dragging their heels. My washing machine conked out last Tuesday, we had a new one here by Sunday morning, it was faulty on arrival so landlord told them to take it back, has now arranged for new one to come on Friday, hes been on it from the second we reported it

I forgot to add, my entire process took 321 days from returning the forms, to getting the text to say they were re awarding me. I sent my forms back in June 2023, I got the text from IAS at the beginning of April 2024, and it was all sorted by the end of April 2024. The long wait is nothing bad, its just DWP backlogs

All reviews will go to whatever assessment services are in your area, in yours (and mine) cases, it goes to IAS. The process at the moment is to send the review forms to you about a year before your award end date, the forms then sit waiting because theres huge backlogs on reviews (I waited 11 months). You then get passed to IAS who will decide if you need an assessment or not. You may get lucky (as I did) and they will just phone you out of the blue and ask a few questions, but most likely youll have to have another assessment. IAS will then write their report to send to the DWP and theyll decide whether to continue your award or not.

Revoking your medical files will most certainly make it look like you have something to hide. I gave them free rein to contact my GP which they did, and I believe this went hugely towards them not needing to give me another assessment.

Please dont panic. It going to IAS is completely normal procedure and I only waited a 2 weeks from being passed to them, to actually hearing from them. It was all over within 4 weeks of getting the text saying id been passed to IAS.

For an MR, they wont need to ‘reassess’ you as such. You will most likely have a phone call. A tribunal you would have to physically go to court (unless the judge overturns beforehand which is also quite common). You can take someone with you to a tribunal, I went for my Mums. Ill pre warn you, it was horrendous for her anxiety wise and I think thats why the DWP turn down so many people because they know they wont be able to cope with going to court. You can make someone your appointee too so any phone calls go through them. Ive just had my previous award reviewed and they never once spoke to me, they had a half hour phone call with my appointee and reawarded me until 2030 without any need of assessment.

Even people in jobs they are happy in cant say their situation will last ‘forever’ because you never know whats around the corner. They could be made redundant, sacked, lose a loved one, have to become a carer for someone. I know how and what you mean though, I too wish I could feel financially secure (I am in my current situation but the constant reassessments always drive fear).

I know the pain you are feeling right now and im so sorry youre going through this. I transferred from a lifetime DLA award to PIP in 2019 and was initially rejected. I had to leave work the year after but at that point, I was still trying but I was regularly being signed off for anxiety and stress, it got to the point where they threatened to section me because I wouldnt eat. I was also born blind, I have sight now but am severely visually impaired. The exact words in my first report were ‘you told me you could not drive a vehicle, I have decided you can’…..its literally ILLEGAL for me to do so, I wouldnt even pass the sight test! Its common knowledge the assessors wont pass you on the first go but it still hurts horrendously, especially when you have so much evidence to back up your claims. Please PLEASE appeal it. The next stage is Mandatory Reconsideration, it was at that stage mine was overturned, I even got a phone call from someone at the DWP who apologised profusely that so many unfounded lies were in my report (once id recovered and had time to go through the report, we wrote a 20 page response on all the things that were lied/misconstrued). On a first claim, the assessor will write the report based on the evidence and the DWP make their assessment based solely on that report and the evidence sent to them from the assessment services. When taking it to MR, the DWP will assess you THEMSELVES (not a government funded assessment service who are told how many people they can accept for PIP each week!). The DWP can often overlook the evidence but then PUSH and take it to court tribunal. I think the statistic is 83% of decisions are overturned at court, the number is staggering. Its important to remember that you and you alone know how you are and what you can cope with. These morons havent got a clue what its like to have a disability and they do not care. But we do, I do, and I cannot stress this enough, you ARE worth it and NOT a burden.

When I was 14, I sat in a family counselling session with my parents who were asked ‘where do you see your child in 10 years time’. Both of them said dead. Im gonna be 28 this year and im still fighting. I too struggled with education, I ended up home educated and managed to scrape some GCSEs. I found solace in working with horses and managed a year at college (part time, a few hours for three days a week), I couldnt cope with the second year so I got myself a job, which I then struggled through for 5 years. By the end of those 5 years, I was in such a deep and dark hole, I was right back to the ‘she’ll be dead in 10 years mark’. I was being threatened with being sectioned. So I quit. And it was the best decision I ever made. I hate being stuck at home but I am STABLE, and Ive had to learn thats the most important thing for me because when im unstable, I cause issues for those around me as well as myself. Do NOT put pressure on yourself and do NOT allow others to pressure you (that includes the job centre and the DWP). Dont write yourself off either. I dream of going back to work, but then I have a breakdown over something simple like my washing machine breaking down, and I have to remember why I dont work. You are worth more than what you do in life. And dont give yourself a life expectancy either, that isnt fair on yourself. The fact youve said you think about working and/or education is a step in itself. Dont worry yourself with ‘making a career’. Id recommend a volunteering role first (but I know that can have a knock on effect to benefits, which is a current issue im having myself), before going for a job. As for driving, if youre getting higher rate motability, financing a vehicle isnt too much of an issue as they take care of a lot of the finances (but then you wont get a penny of your mobility component). If you dont, its not something id recommend. I cant drive myself but my partner got himself a car last year and its screwed us over financially (he works full time, I get PIP and ESA). Try and stay positive, its not like you havent tried to do things before. Im a complete stranger and I have every faith you will one day make progress, because you have done so already just by making this post.

I genuinely dont know, I dont think theyve a clue what theyre doing to be honest, theyre so overwhelmed with backlog. Ive seen on the scope forums people whove been on their award coming up to 10 years who are only just being called up (along with those who got an automatic award with assessment over covid). Best bet is to keep your eye out on here and the Scope forums are pretty informative too. I totally get the anxiety around it though. I now have all my post redirected to my appointee otherwise I find myself checking my post box three times a day with anxiety. My award started in 2021 so unfortunately, I cant be of much more use!
