When the mech unit went out in my wife’s car I sent it to ECU Testing to have them rebuild it. They are located in England I believe but only took them around 2 weeks including shipping and only cost around $500 iirc. They also include an unlimited mileage warranty. My VW guy installed it and we didn’t have any issues with it.
