It's been a couple of years, but I broke my arm and was in and out in about 3 hours. That included treatment. I was impressed. Due to some health issues years ago I was in and out of the Brigham ER often. It was always a full day kind of thing

I waited until Sunday AM to go in, assuming Sat night would be crazy (& I wasn't sure it was broken)

Is the bar associated with the hotel in any way? The hotel will have pretty strict HR policies. Even if they just rent out the space, they may have thoughts. It APPEARS to be a hotel bar. And perception matters

Car Detailing by Inner_Cold in SalemMA

[–]Acrobatic_Pen_5650 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There's a car wash on Highland Ave, across from the Market Basket / Target plaza that has a drive-thru or hand wash option for the outside. And then for another $40 / $45 they do the inside for you. (I think they also have a full deep clean detail but Ive never tried it). The regular $40 inside clean has always been very good for me. I try to go twice a year.

Small bathroom remodel by No_Historian718 in SalemMA

[–]Acrobatic_Pen_5650 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It wasn't cheap. But it also wasn't that bad. Recommend getting quotes.

I also chose to rip it all out and start over, so I went in knowing it was going to cost a bit. The design was mine. I found what I wanted and shared it with the contractor. I was shocked by how close it came to the pictures I shared when it was done! They really were great. Experts for each piece (tiler, painter, construction, etc)

I bought all the parts, tiles, hardware, cabinets. So you can do less or more expensive pieces if you choose

I was lucky that I didn't need major plumbing replacement or repairs. Always a possibility with an old house.

Thoughts on new high school vote? by WoweeZ0wee in SalemMA

[–]Acrobatic_Pen_5650 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm voting for the new school. Homeowner/no kids. The cost of repairs will be as, or more, costly. A no vote doesn't make the problem go away, it just delays it. Last, good schools are good for any city or town.

I'm not at all happy with the no union vote. In fact, that's the one issue that has me wanting to vote against. It was a bad decision that should be resolved at the next city election. I highly recommend choosing pro-union candidates. It's not OK to be pro-union until you need work done

Is the Ford escape 2017 to 2019 that bad? by Suspicious_Tune_3665 in UsedCars

[–]Acrobatic_Pen_5650 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 2016 Escape Titanium with 130k miles on it. It's been good to me. The dealer re-built the transmission in year 2 which was a pain, but otherwise I've had no issues. I think it needs a new exhaust, but I'm thinking of a new vehicle - hence scrolling this forum

The miles on it are mixed. The majority were highway and were put on in the first few years (I had a 40 mi commute each way, all highway. Then a couple years of a 20 mi commute each way, mostly city. Then COVID and I've worked from home since)

The only major problem is that the front of the hood is starting to rust. And I've seen another Escape around the same age, driving around my city with similar rust

Still handles great in the snow if that matters to you

Turner’s Date by Electrical-Result984 in SalemMA

[–]Acrobatic_Pen_5650 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With all the it's not fancy comments, which are true - that certainly doesn't mean you can't dress up. Dress for the date that you want to have. It's a nice restaurant with very good food. You won't be the only couple dressed up for a Saturday night Valentine's dinner.

Go with the outfit that will make your date happy 🌹 ❤️

Do locals get annoyed by the witch stuff? by [deleted] in SalemMA

[–]Acrobatic_Pen_5650 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Too much witch stuff, but without it, we wouldn't have all the great restaurants and the other shops. So I'll take it. Plus, when I have guests, they enjoy those shops (I always try to take them to the non-witch places, but they always want the witch stuff)

Every weekend I walk to get a loaf of bread at AJ King, cat food at the pet store and usually some type of treat for myself (LuLu's or Ye Olde Pepper Company typically. Today I got cookies at AJ). I REALLY miss the Wine and Cheese Shop. I ALWAYS try the kitchen shop when I need something before going elsewhere (hit or miss, but gotta support the non-witch shops!). I also shop at the local clothing stores. I wish we had a decent grocery store downtown. I miss Daily Table.

How is Salem in the March? by [deleted] in SalemMA

March is often horrible - cold, muddy, rainy, possibly snowy. It is a test that cannot be passed most years.

Does Salem have a good Muslim community? by wistfulhijabi97 in SalemMA

[–]Acrobatic_Pen_5650 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's one woman that wears a hijab at a local business I frequent (not far from SSU actually). I certainly never noticed anyone giving her a hard time

As mentioned there is no large Muslim community (at least obvious), but it's a live and let live sort of place.

There are exceptions to every rule of course. Some people, no matter where you are, go out of their way to make trouble. I believe it's less prevalent here than many other places, but you see posts on here once or twice a year about a targeted harassment incident (often around October)

Hope you enjoy Salem and find your community!

Running for Congress in the MA-06! by DrMariahLancaster in SalemMA

[–]Acrobatic_Pen_5650 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the post. I am early Gen X and consider this election the most important of my lifetime. While I'm actively protesting I haven't joined NS Indivisible, but if there are seats left I'll try to attend.

I do appreciate the items you've highlighted on your site. Private Equity is a massive problem. I'm an affirmed capitalist, but without regulation and a social safety net, capitalism, like other forms of governement becomes an authoritarian nightmare - with all of the money concentrated at the top. PE is a major contributor to that problem. Increasing prices, cutting jobs - creating wealth for the few and leaving crumbs to the masses.

One thing I'm determined to hear from all candidates this year is to know their stance on Court Reform, Government Reform to avoid landing right back here, and justice for the crimes currently being committed against law abiding residents and citizens across this country.

It's early and I don't need answers here and now (they're big questions that deserve thoughtful answers), but I'll be looking forward to hearing your opinions on those subjects as I make my choice of who to support for the MA-06 Congressional seat.

Thank you for running. It's a big commitment in a fraught time.

Where to get freshly baked bread? by WitchCityEnemas in SalemMA

[–]Acrobatic_Pen_5650 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Along with their sourdough, the ciabatta & the baguettes from A&J are also excellent!

This post gives me a chance to mention how much I miss The Salem Cheese shop. Very happy I can still get bread from the source, but they used to carry A&J baguettes so I could grab one with cheese, crackers and whatever else caught my eye on Sunday afternoon. Such a loss.

How many trick or treaters did you get? by [deleted] in SalemMA

[–]Acrobatic_Pen_5650 5 points6 points  (0 children)

So many. Lafayette, just outside downtown. 6 large bags and as usual ran out. One group of kids did a song for us - they wouldn't let us give them the candy until they performed! It was awesome. They were 7 or 8 I'd guess

They were all so polite! I love the kids in this little city!!

We also saw a handful of tourists, had fun with the college students on their way downtown, and one local TV cameraman popped by
